  1. Fantastic use of the NBA formula injected into Football in an arcade-y package that even non sport fans can play

Yes it was cool that the N64 version took it to a new level with custom plays that you took take with you to the arcade.  Also Blitz 99/2000 added 4 player support, which made it a great co op experience as well.

Anyone ever attempt to beat it?  You have to go through the entire league and those last 5 teams were ruthless.  Anytime you are up the cpu seems to get an interception or recovers a fumble.  If Mario Kart rubberbandimg is annoying, Blitz will may you cry.

If anyone is interested in a modern day day Blitz, Mutant Football League is a funny mashup of Mutant League Football and Blitz.

“Why aren’t more killer clowns in the Mutant League?”

”Because they are all in politics”

  2. Looking forward to 2049.  Should have lots of free time while living underground avoiding the giant ants on the surface.  Games should only be a couple bottle caps by then, might have to go without my radiation meds though.

Anyway.  I'm about 2/3 through Rebirth and am already 45 hours in.  This is a huge game.  I'm enjoying my time with it.  There are new open world activities, including some fun optional bosses to fight, and yes tons of mini games.  There are also side quests which feel right out of Yakuza, and if you play those games you will know what I mean.  Quite the contrast with how dark and brooding some of the main themes of the story are.

Storyline is mostly on track so far but there are a couple new additions, so I'm wondering how they fit into the plot.  Combat returns from Remake and is a good mix of action and tactical.  The new characters are fun to play with esp Yuffie.  There is also a massive OST, there must be like 200 songs here.  Lots of remakes of classic songs but also remixes that cover every genre from metal to jazz to techno.

  3. It is still super doable to farm the mats you need in game to fast travel

Capcom has been doing this with all their games.  You could buy extra red orbs in Devil May Cry and extra ammo in Resident Evil, despite plenty to be had by just playing the game normally.  Seems only a fool would spend real money on these, but I guess a fraction of a percent of people are just super lazy and buy this stuff.  Capcom must have felt they would be leaving money at the table to not include them.

I don't think it is egregious enough to not play their games, most of their recent output has been really good.  Still kind of $hitty to include and they could have been a lot more upfront and transparent about the whole mess.

Ironically, I'm playing the original right now (I gave up on it near release), and one of my biggest annoyances is that you have to spend in-game currency for fast travel so that you don't have to travel through the same mountain trails over and over again...

At launch the first game didn't have fast travel, it was one of their design principals.  They caved in the expansion to let you fast travel using rare resources.  Now in the sequel, the resources are only rare if you don't have a gold card.  What a 180!  XD

  4. Looks like it was updated in 2013, so it does include stuff like Dark Souls which should be on there.  But it also has stuff like Da Blob and DJ Hero and other flavor of the month stuff.

I'd prob add Zelda Breath of the Wild, Witcher 3, and Disco Elysium on there.  Prob a bunch of indie stuff too

  5. A fun and gimmicky choose your own adventure with a few “oh $hit” moments.  There are some plot holes and meme worthy moments.

It was novel for the time, but Telltale and some of the Dark Pictures titles have done this style much better

Oof poor Ristar. I love that game to death but Bloodlines is also very good. I take it not enough people played Ristar though. It probably my favorite Genesis game.

I seem to remember it being popular, but never top tier.  It's a good game but platformers were like a dime a dozen in that era.  Castlevania was already genre royalty, and the genesis outing didn't phone anything in.

    You're missing something

I'm not really into doing every side quest and post game activity, I already spent a lot of time on it and was ready to wrap it up.  I did beat the wheels master, which was a fun mini game, but the rewards were not really worth it.
