  1. If the news is crying “inflation” while corporations are boasting about sky high record profits, the former is a damn lie. And this isn’t even a Democrat vs. Republican thing. It’s the working class (you and me) vs. the ruling class (them). The latter is the real struggle that matters but they want to distract you from it with the former.
  2. Nostalgia is what got me into collecting, but love of the medium and desire to learn about it is what drives me now. If I had just stuck to nostalgia I would’ve missed out on so much else that’s out there. Doesn’t answer your initial question but maybe sheds light on other answers posted here?
  3. Near perfect if not perfect. I’m just stingy with 10s.
  4. I’ve worked retail and currently work a job with the public so I totally understand the jadedness. But the shelf collector nonsense and acting like collectors have to play every piece of media they buy has never set right with me.
  5. You should’ve seen the look on the cashier’s face when I spent my 1893-S Morgan dollar on something at its face value. He looked at me like I was the idiot. No sir, I’m not a shelf collector. I buy coins that I want to spend.
  6. I live in Nashville so you know, you can’t throw a rock without hitting a musician. Myself included. One night a friend of mine was out playing at a bar. Jimmy Buffet was in town and everyone wanted to hear Jimmy Buffet songs. Toward the end of the night a dude walked up to them and asked them to play Margaritaville again. My buddy said “Man, we’ve played that song all night long. Is there anything else you want to hear?” The dude busted out $100 bills for every band member and said he wanted to hear Margaritaville. They played Margaritaville.
  7. Goddamn shelf collectors, they ruin everything. I mail my desirable stamps and I put my desirable trading cards in the spokes of my bicycle wheels to sound cool. I only use them for their intended purpose because I’m a better collector.
  8. The original Castlevania is my favorite NES game. The 16-bit Castlevanias are legendary too. The Metroid-like ones are good, but like someone else said there are substitutes. I miss classicvania a lot. I’m not super confident that modern Konami could capture that magic though.
  9. I’ve never seen a dude so concerned with what randos on the internet think of them like Elon Musk is. But the others here are right. He’s a billionaire, that’s strike one. But he’s also standing on the shoulders of the people who have actually done great things and taking the credit. If you’ve ever actually listened to his ideas or his opinions on complex subjects you’ll know the dude is really, really dumb and uninformed, but has made it a point to try and put on an intellectual facade. Probably because of the aforementioned insecurities he has.
  10. There was a Toys R Us ad making the rounds in various collecting groups on Facebook that was advertising some mid/late 80s consoles. I wish I had it on hand because I happened to look toward the bottom and it was my childhood TRU that printed the ad! They just tore the building down not too long ago. Surely I’ve got it somewhere.
  11. God that’s so cool. Congrats on the pickup. Personally, I wouldn’t repaint it.
  12. The creator of Puyo Puyo admitted to being afraid that people would accuse them of ripping off Dr. Mario, but when your game turns out waaay better than the one you allegedly ripped off then who cares if you did it or not
  13. EA’s inconsistency with their Genesis cases are maddening all by themselves. The Genesis black grid set is one of my favorites but one irritating thing about those games is the different sized Genesis logos on the spines.
  14. I used to be an entomologist/plant pathologist/molecular biologist, don’t make me post my insect pics lmao
  15. And the crunching sound when you fed them to the monster (counted them) at the end.
  16. I’ve always been a fan of JRPGs and action RPGs. Kingdom Hearts 2 was a formative gaming experience for me, I loved the combat (Kingdom Hearts 3 probably has the best combat in an ARPG to date, honestly). As I’ve grown older I just can’t do turn-based RPGs anymore, I don’t have the time and energy anymore. But Final Fantasy 6 was probably my favorite for a long time. I can still do action RPGs though, and by some dumb fluke I hadn’t played any Souls games until recently. I got a PS5 and downloaded Demon’s Souls and I’m hooked. That remake is a personal 10/10 for me and now I’m going back and playing the rest of the series. In any type of game I play, I value the ability to customize my playstyle. Souls games thrive on that aspect. I love the combat, I love the customization, I love the level design, how these games encourage you to play different ways, to explore off the usual path, to approach situations in an unorthodox way, and to replay the game with different tactics. I haven’t enjoyed a gaming experience this much in years.
  17. Yeah I’m having a hard time pointing fingers at this dude when the same courts allow corporate ghouls to get away with the same thing constantly, and on a much larger scale.
  18. I never consider Atari 2600 in these discussions because like others have said it’s impossible to get a full set. Not just because of the insanely scarce stuff, but because we still find stuff we didn’t previously know about. Guys making games in their basements and selling them door to door in one particular area. It truly was the Wild West and while that’s what fascinates me about Atari, it’s a nightmare for set collectors. You can argue PS2/Wii/Switch due to sheer volume and you’d have a solid argument. If you wanted to not include those, then there are a bunch of smaller sets with hard to find stuff that could be fun to pursue. Game Gear for example as mentioned above. I think NGage has some rarities that don’t come up often too?
  19. My college where I went to undergrad had a sinkhole problem. First it hit the marching band practice field the year before I started, then one hit the new football stadium as it was being built. Wild stuff. My irrational fear? Is submechanophobia irrational? I have a hard time looking at the sunken battleships at Pearl Harbor, underwater photos of submarines, ship propellers, etc. One time I was at an aquarium and there was a room they let you take a look in that had all the pressure valves and piping for all the various tanks. That freaked me out big time.
  20. It releases tomorrow and seems to be getting good reviews!
  21. I’m not big on 2D fighters but I can play Virtua Fighter 2/Fighting Vipers/Fighters Megamix any day of the week The first time I read this I thought it said “FF13” is a billion times better than Chrono Trigger
  22. I also got one recently. I agree that it’s still too early to tell, but damn if the Demon’s Souls remake isn’t one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in a long time.
