  1. Saying that he started with almost nothing is a fundamental misunderstanding of him and his background lmao. I was critical of this dude waaay before it was clear what his politics were. The one smart thing I’ll give him though is that by announcing them he’s successfully deflected all criticism by crying about it being because of his politics. A guy who isn’t hated by all of his kids and exes or self conscious about what people on Twitter think of him.
  2. Nonsense back in the day they built a whole library in Alexandria for the sole purpose of enshrining human progress and ideas and… oh my
  3. Totally agree with you there. Corporate social media sucks ass, I just wish communication and assembly wasn’t being restricted faster than we can find an alternative.
  4. I understand your POV but before EM took over it was probably the biggest forum for discussing things like pursuing a better workplace, unionizing, organizing, etc. That is very specifically the entire reason the dude bought it, in order to kneecap any sort of widespread discussion that betters the lives of vermin commoners like us. The ads and propaganda came in droves after the dude bought it out.
  5. Twitter is no different or worse than Reddit or Facebook tbh
  6. This walking failure at life is continual living proof that you don’t have to be smart to be rich. In fact this dude makes it seem like a disqualification.
  7. I think I said it in another thread here recently but the Demon’s Souls remake is one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had
  8. This tracks, I’m 45% done at 15 hours in. But I’ve also left it sitting open while doing something else in the house so that’s probably contributed an hour or so.
  9. Man this is one of the few modern games released recently that has actually kept me engaged.
  10. Hey it looks nice EDIT: well the upload lowered the quality a bit
  11. The Demon’s Souls remake on PS5 is one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had.
  12. I have both. I like Xbox’s UI better and I use it for stuff like streaming services and multiplatform/online stuff with friends. But I like PS5’s games and exclusives better and I use it for my more focused single player experiences.
  13. Okay I finally started it tonight and I’m enjoying it so far! The second boss was a fun surprise.
  14. Tbh I’m not confident that the Switch could handle a PS3 era AAA title either (this is a lighthearted jab, I like my Switch most of the time)
  15. I’ve seen those types of comments too, yeah. But I also feel like I’m seeing a lot of attempts to equate the POV I described with being happy that they died (not from you or anyone else on this site). It just feels so disingenuous.
  16. I definitely don’t interpret your posts as having more sympathy for the sub. But the valid concern for many is that there are plenty of people and entities who do have more sympathy for the sub. The media included. I think it’s very valid to be upset about that dichotomy and I don’t think it robs you of your humanity to be aware of that.
  17. I’m not happy that people died but I am absolutely annoyed at the dichotomy between how this was reacted to vs. other tragedies. And I’m also annoyed at these headlines chastising people for not caring enough, when in the past we’ve had the same amounts of people online mocking tragedies that affected marginalized groups and we didn’t see one damn article calling people out for it or saying that people need to keep their thoughts to themselves. The people writing these articles now absolutely saw those back then too. It’s just really telling.
  18. That darn oppressive government strikes again!
  19. I have a feeling this is going to be an extremely unpopular take here but at some point companies need to just move on from the previous gen. PS4 is a little more forgivable but if I see a multi-gen game has a Switch port being developed alongside it then I start to worry. The Switch is fun but it simply cannot keep up with the rest of the industry when it comes to non-Nintendo AAA stuff. And it honestly doesn’t need to, because it’s fine at doing its own thing.
  20. Very inconsiderate of Square Enix to ruin the summer plans of the chronically online gamers who were looking forward to being mad about this game existing. They weren’t supposed to release something good! Joking aside I’m very much looking forward to this and is the rare day one purchase for me.
  21. The absolute best progressive+left wing organizing and community engagement I’ve ever seen were in southern states. I’m not defending Florida though.
  22. Mods - I think I’ve done a good job of abstaining from these types of heated threads lately but I’m sorry for contributing to this one.
  23. You’d be quite surprised. People who hold such beliefs have become quite emboldened lately. If we had folks like that here on VGS then they might not be brave enough to rep it in such an insular community but in a large forum or social media site? Absolutely there would be some who own it without shame. (And for the record - I don’t hang out with those types of people. I do call out problematic things amongst family and friends if I hear it but I do not actively associate with people who hold those types of beliefs.)
  24. I know that they’re two separate concepts. But in the scope of American history they do in fact go hand in hand. A couple of outliers doesn’t absolve that connection. You can think racism and slavery are bad and still say something that is racist, ignorant, or at the very least tone-deaf. I’ve known plenty of people who had racists thoughts, comments, or beliefs but thought they weren’t. But that’s not even my point - I’m more raising my eyebrows at people who will not outright say it or can’t say it without peppering in various additives.
  25. Edit: Never mind - not worth it. This thread is a shitshow. Crazy we can’t have anything nice in 2023 and that universally accepted things like “slavery is bad” brings out so many “but” or “well…” statements nowadays.
