  1. NA Getting a copy of StarKeeper was probably the best. Honorable Mention: NES Miracle Piano CIB. I paid retail for it but it's a hard set to find all together in nice condition. In The Wild At a yard sale, I found a box of CIB SNES and N64 games for $2/each. Far and away the best one was Pocky and Rocky 2. This was back around 2007/2008. Honorable mention: Found a box of NES stuff, and tucked away inside CIB RoboWarrior was the official hint sheet. Rare paper! eBay This is a tie with two amazing scores a month or two apart. This was in 2014. 1. Newly listed NES lot with 50 games for about $300. Included both Little Samson and Panic Restaurant with manuals for both. 2. Another NES lot with 30 games for about $200. Included Flintstones Dino Peak and Kid Klown. Started as an auction, and checking it later saw a BIN was added. Just dumb luck Perhaps the best part of it all is that I still own everything mentioned.
  2. I remember reading about this game when it came out and it was already being called a hidden gem, mostly because it was a solid game tucked away near the end of the PS2 life span. I grabbed it pretty soon after, played it a few times, and haven't touched it since. It came up again recently on a podcast I was listening to, and now this review. I think that means I need to dig it out and give it a play soon. Nice review, Gloves. Your writing is just fine.
  3. Well done, indeed! Pretty good puzzle game from what I remember of it.
  4. Virtual Boy. Yeah I know there are headaches, alignment problems, etc. The library on there, while small, is really quite good.
  5. Kabuki Quantum Fighter is a game I've owned since childhood and I know it very well. It's a pretty great choice for my first completed game blog post on VGS! There's lot of hair whipping and climbing fun here and it's a game I highly recommend trying out! Full Review: http://takeontheneslibrary.com/finished/132-kabuki-quantum-fighter/
  6. I have decided to use VGS's fancy new blog system to try cross posting my blogs from my personal site Take On The NES Library. I'm planning on putting up a companion blog post here for every review I write, plus a few special yearly features. This seems like a good way to keep VGS up to date with what's going on while letting me share and hopefully discuss some of these great games. I also plan on starting up a companion thread in The Gauntlet strictly for following game play progress and discussion on whatever I happen to be playing at the time. Typically I have played several games ahead of what reviews I post. I'm excited to see how this all works out! I just posted a new review on my site and will have a new blog here up shortly! Game on!
  7. This is a format I had always hoped would be tried at some point. Best of luck everyone!
  8. Sometimes I think I went about it backwards. I collect NES because it was my first console and I have always loved going back and playing my old games. I always held onto the idea of having every NES game possible, and I added games here or there over the years. Buying a house and putting my games on display was when I got serious about buying and collecting. I met my goal of buying every licensed NES cart except for Stadium Events, and I'm still nabbing unlicensed games, Famicom games, and homebrews from time to time. All that is fine and good. But it wasn't until after I had the games on hand that I realized what I really wanted to do was to play through and beat them all. So that's what I've been doing ever since: playing, documenting, writing, recording, etc. My original reasons were valid enough, but it would have made for a much better story if I had done it the other way around. Anyway, for the most part I'm either continuing to find more NES and Famicom games or pick up other games I want from other systems, with no real rhyme or reason other than finding a good deal for finding out about another game I know I'd like and picking it up.
  9. I was able to beat the game without continues in under a week of practice. I think I had a one or two death run in there. NGIII is not an easy game, but I don't think it's as tough as some of the other challenges listed here.
  10. Very nice collection, thanks for sharing! I am two games short of a complete US set ... you can probably guess which two.
  11. Yes, absolutely, great call. The difficulty doesn't change much in Level 6 and beyond, but those rounds are very challenging. You have to do so many of them to get the ending, plus each one has different enemy patterns to them. Tough, tough game to beat. I guess while I'm here, I'll also mention the last couple of pachinko stages in NES High Speed pinball, as well as the last stage in To The Earth.
  12. As far as quirky, one-off indie titles go, I highly recommend Minit. Also nice to see another VGS'er in my geographic area!
  13. I tried the chicken sandwich on Sunday! The drive-thru line was out all the way to the street, and it's a real busy street. I had to park next door and walk inside. Though the line was not that big of a deal inside, the place was definitely busy and packed. I got the normal chicken sandwich and I thought it was really good. Next time I go I'm getting the spicy chicken sandwich ... seems like that's the one I really should have tried.
  14. I have not, and I would lose badly if I did. I think it would be fun to join one of the races but they don't fit with my schedule.
  15. I mean, are cheat devices cheating kind of answers the question for you right there. I guess I don't really care if people cheat on a single-player game, as the only person they are cheating on are themselves. If they are okay with it, why should I be bothered by it?
  16. I'm just the opposite ... I love the DW Randomizer races. As well as playing DW Randomizer!
  17. I appreciate the shout out! Beating Sky Kid was one of my most memorable NES clears. It is deceptively difficult to finish and I had several rounds of heartbreak before finally getting the job done. There's a lot of fun to be had just playing it casually. I'm glad I sat down to play through the whole thing. Your collection is really excellent, by the way! Thanks for sharing it!
  18. I watch a fair amount of Twitch, though almost exclusively NES stuff. I mostly watch Arcus and NESCardinality.
  19. I've said I'm retired from the contests, but maaaaaybe I'd be up for playing some Game Boy in a short-term contest.
  20. I finished Untitled Goose Game 100% over the weekend. My daughter and I had been chipping away at it for awhile.
  21. I won two NES weekly contests over on the old site. Those were hard fought for. I also have a WR time on Street Cop!
