  1. I wrote about it when I beat it awhile back. Fun game with some minor issues. I enjoyed making my own "map" quite a lot. http://takeontheneslibrary.com/finished/61-section-z/

    WTTF: Some GB Games

I bought a Sneaky Snakes cart for the contest, but I wasn't paying attention and bought the UKV version. I'm not even a serious GB collector, but it bugs the heck out of me so I'm only the lookout for a US version to replace it.
  3. I think one or both of you guys messaged me trying to shake my copy loose. I still have it! The sad thing is I've only played it once not long after I bought it. I've got a backlog of homebrew games building up fast, some that I haven't even played at all. I definitely need to rectify that soon.
  4. As much as I’d like to win a week of this contest, I’m expecting you to beat me.
  5. 183,210 First and only attempt! Reached Level 37. I have played this before about four years ago and got to the same spot.
  6. The Magic of Scheherazade is done. Pretty fun game, took longer than I expected.
  7. You know, you're right, it does feel like it would be right at home there conceptually. Perhaps it is done a little better than what an Apple II version might have looked like.
  8. Space Shuttle Project is one of the more surprising games I've come across for this project. You wouldn't know what kind of game it was until you looked at the back of the box or read the manual. This game has a little bit of everything, combined with very nice presentation and graphics. The bad part is that the game sinks into repetitiveness rather quickly, which is a shame because before that I had a lot of fun discovering this game. Review: #140 - Space Shuttle Project
  9. I never said this contest should become a Famicom contest, just that if there was one I would play
  10. A Famicom contest would get me to play again. Just sayin'. We were going through some old games the other day and my daughter has become kind of obsessed with Mappy. Just a strange coincidence it has been mentioned here. Anyway I'm getting pretty decent at it now!
  11. Playing through Untitled Goose Game with my 4-year-old daughter made the entire experience many times better. It would not normally be my kind of game but I really enjoyed it. The indie space reminds me a lot of gaming in the '80s and '90s where developers are going in more imaginative directions, trying out things and seeing what sticks. With that in mind, there are bound to be a lot of "critical darlings" that just don't resonate with everyone and that's fine. My example is Hollow Knight. It gets universally praised and mentioned often as the best Metroidvania game in years and all that, and I thought it was just okay. I sunk a lot of time into it too almost out of duty and it just never hit that gear for me. And that's okay! Figuring out, and for folks our age, refining your own tastes is part of maturing.
  12. That’s consistent with the enemies and final boss in Snake Rattle N Roll on NES. Makes things pretty tough when you gotta stay on him real close but not too close! I say don’t bother with score because it’s progression first. I’ve seen lots of people in the NES contests obsess over low score and then have problems beating the game in the first place. Low score after that is fun I agree, but might have been tedious for this game. I didn’t beat it anyway so I’ll never know!
  13. Level 13 - 253,250 Pro tip: Do not care about the score at all. Much more fun that way!
  14. You gotta eat enough pebbly things to grow your snake long enough until it flashes, then you will be heavy enough for the scale.
  15. Yep, I’m here! I’ll post my score later but I got to Level 13 and I think I got to the final boss playing out my continues. This game is really fun, I really should finish it off, but I’m not that excited at the prospect of an hour-plus attempt right now so my score will stand. Don’t forget to post your completion in the Game Boy thread too!
  16. I beat Barbie, no death. My daughter likes watching this game so we’ve done it a few times before.
  17. It's time for another Black Box game! And another Zapper game. I've played quite a few of Zapper games already and they will run out eventually, but nevertheless, here's a new one for me. I think most people know that Wild Gunman is a shooting game timed like a wild west shootout. This game delivers on that for sure in a couple of modes. There is a third mode that's in a shooting gallery style that I was not expecting to find on the cart. As it turns out, that mode provided the most challenge of all. Read my review to find out how I fared! Review: #139 - Wild Gunman
  18. Though I don't have first-hand experience, I have to agree with bronzeshield. Ikari Warriors and Q*bert are lengthy games, whereas I bet with Elevator Action you benefit from playing through it faster.
  19. It's on his site too: http://themexicanrunner.com/games/Elevator Action Evidently it was the last review he wrote in the project. I remember he had been playing for 8-10 hours and was really struggling before he asked for help, so I simply took the advice I picked up from this thread and passed it on. I didn't realize I saved the whole project though, that's pretty neat.
  20. I figure that all teams are sign-stealing to some extent. I know the Astros situation more has to do that they were using technology to steal signs, including using cameras intended for replay, from what I read. I have to imagine other teams are doing this too and that the shoe is going to drop elsewhere eventually.
  21. On topic, no, I don't think if GameStop goes under that garage sales are gonna get better. My hunch is that those things will stay the same. I don't think people planning a garage sale really consider taking games to GameStop or wherever when there's a bunch of other things they are trying to get rid of.
  22. It's cool they are doing this and that you can get most of the popular Zapper games to work. It's just not for me though, I want full compatibility with all the weird one-off stuff the Zapper does. If I'm trying to beat all NES games, then it makes sense to me to use the Zapper every single time it is an option and not just on stuff that happens to be patched with these other solutions.
  23. Krazy Kreatures is really fun, might be my favorite unlicensed game.
  24. We've followed each other on Twitter for awhile now and I just found out he was doing this. He's pretty knowledgeable about random NES games which I why I followed in the first place. I am confident he is the real deal, though I have not done any "vetting" of videos or anything like that. I am shooting for the same goal so I'm trying my best to keep up with others doing the same thing. Specific to this game, I know he figured out the Game Genie code to skip straight to the last level to practice it. A full playthrough lasts around 20 minutes, maybe that is what he means. I spent about 20 hours (I think) playing this game over and over from the start before I beat it. I think using pause strats is fine and a legit strategy. But it's not my style and I won't be doing it for any games I play. Just personal taste.
