  1. ABACABB second only to the Contra Code for cheats burned into my memory
  2. man, how has Kuribo's Shoe not made many appearances post-SMB3? hugely missed opportunity the 2d part of New Donk City in Odyssey is by far my favorite part of the game.
  3. maybe i'm just more of a maps guy, but i've got a soft spot for the NES Game Atlas.
  4. found this locally for $1 and had to have it, as i've never seen any WCW/NWO Revenge branded merchandise. i thought it was a cd booklet, but there are no sleeves and no place to attach them. then i thought it might be to carry your game & controller, but the n64 controller doesn't fight right inside. now, i'm stumped and i'm asking you. what is this?
  5. Jack's is my go-to for a quick easy frozen pizza. there's a newerish brand "Lotzza Motzza" that has a buffalo chicken that i really dig. huge shout out to old school Tony's with the pepperonis that curled up when heated. the grease that pooled inside was godly. @Quest4Nes knows whats up
  6. i got 43. My notable/obvious misses: titles i didn't know Nintendo published: but i did get Mega Man 6 (only due to a thread on NA about the box- red stripe vs no stripe or something like that).
  7. SMB3 is just NES perfection. Mario64 did 3d arguably better than anybody else of the era, AND was one of the first. Mario RPG took things in a whole different direction and still worked masterfully. the Mario Kart series hasn't had a bad entry. Super Mario 3D World is criminally underrated. i can't pick right now but lean towards SMB3
  8. i heard about the trailer and it didn't do much for me, but once i watched it, i think i'm gonna have to see this. looks fun.
  9. i have love for SMB2, played it a bunch as a kid. Luigi was my go-to. the crazy legs made me laugh. it's a shame that so many of these characters haven't become staples of the Mario franchise. Mouser, TriClyde, Wart......even Fryguy would be cool to see every now and again.
  10. Even as a kid, everyone thought this game was fun except for the water level, which virtually nobody could beat. i can see how if that is your only memory of the game then you could think it sucks. edit: i just watched the video. while there's lots of things i agree with, my biggest issue was Mike just defending everything. "the game's not too hard, you just don't know how to play it".
  11. d3 was a bit too linear for me. for my money d2 is/was the perfect balance
  12. if you have nostalgia for it........absolutely yes. if you still enjoy the games then for sure have fun! if you have three friends on your couch and four controllers.........maybe. there's quite a few fun games for it but they're definitely not everyone's cup of cola. if you're 19 and just getting into the "retro video games" scene...............no. i doubt you'll find the same appreciation for the comparatively shitty graphics and camera/control issues. i still love the concept of the n64 but i bust it out less and less as the years go by.
  13. you can't leave us with that tease.....now you gotta tell us!
  14. that's awesome! do you have a picture? if not, i'd love to track one down for you. any info you can give me would help. town/year/month/main event/any match you remember?
  15. man, i grew up exclusively on the NES, and it seemed like all of my friends were in the same boat. It felt like each friend had different games but they were all awesome. One friend had Double Dribble and Spy Hunter and we would spend all night playing them. Another friend had Battletoads and we battered each other for hours. A third friend's highlight game was T&C Surf Designs and it was glorious. These became some of the first games i searched for once i started down the collecting trail. SOOO many good memories. but a friend of mine's family had more money than we did (i always thought they were rich.....now i realize they were lower middle class and we were just dirt poor) but he had a Sega Genesis and i was just amazed at it. He later got both the 32x and Sega CD add-ons. We didn't play either much but thought the fact his Genesis essentially turned into a Transformer was the coolest thing ever!
  16. it is indeed. top labels from a seller on eBay (there was another discussion thread here where someone linked to his account) but i made it my goal in 2018 to finish up the set. i'm a loose collector and just let go of the boxes/manuals i had acquired on my way to this one. thanks for all the work you've put into archiving this overlooked stuff!
  17. this post being started by zeldaboy will seem really appropriate. i would hand draw maps for each of the Legend of Zelda games, and i still have most of them. here's some noteworthy stuff: this map also has the dungeon maps drawn on the back. i have a similar, but less complete one, for the 2nd quest also. a huge Zelda 2 overworld map. i've got dungeon maps too, but they aren't great to look at. while digging these out, i also found a letter from the game counselors at Nintendo. enjoy!
  18. good looking out! fantastic series that hits all my nostalgic spots!!
  19. this doesn't add much to the conversation, but it makes me happy to look at:
  20. growing up, my brother and i played a lot of NES. we'd always call in "Nintendo Thumb" when the muscle or tendon in the thumb would ache. first thing i thought of. in the n64 age, there'd always be a group of us playing whichever was the most current wrestling game. regularly this would lead to us wrestling in the living room. one friend broke his finger (partially blocked ninja kick), another got thrown through a wall (spear), and a third had to get 10 stitches in his head (hit with a filing cabinet drawer). not directly from video games, but i think this is close enough.
  21. i just hope they make a Let's Go! sequel with the Gold/Silver era Pokemon. never got into any of them after Gen2.
  22. PM sent! i get way more enjoyment out of the NA VGS Secret Santa than i would ever expect. This community is awesome!!
  23. thanks for porting this over! it was an excellent resource when i started putting my NP collection together!
