  1. Got a 64 in '96 and it was definitely the most excited I've ever been for a present. Wasn't 100% sure we were gonna get one and my parents kept it aside until everything else was open. The only downfall was after all the excitement was over we realized we didn't have any games to play! Every single 64 game was rented out at the local rental shop so we had to wait until later in the night when we eventually got Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey as I think it was the only game to get returned that day. If I win the draw you can auction it off here and give the proceeds to VGS.
  2. There is nothing in my collection that is rare enough for me to get this feeling. Anything I was after I know would eventually come up again. If I was chasing a full NES set and SE or something came up for sale then I could see it but I really have no interest in those big ticket items.
  3. I sold my copy. Other ports play better without the slowdown and the games been released so many times. The gameplay isn't bad though for it being crammed into a SNES cart. A great version for the time.
  4. You can destroy the left most wall and the top shooter with one shot if you place it right between them. Saves you a shot of Crash Bomb that you can use on the last boss. I also use item 1 and can usually take the fight without using an E tank. If you fall off a ledge or jump just as they shoot they're easy to avoid. Play quick and they don't even have a chance to kill you anyway.
  5. I wouldn't be surprised on the next generation consoles if there is one major game from most franchises that is simply built upon with patches, 'seasons' and DLC. I don't like it but I feel that's pretty much gonna be the standard outside of indy games. GTA 5 would be a good example from this gen as well as a lot of online games. But next gen that will be the standard. Pump out a base game and then just build upon it as time goes on.
  6. Yeah, I feel the same about RE2 remake. I hate to give it to a remake but damn that game is so fucking good and, as you said, was essentially rebuilt from the ground up. Keeps all the charm while keeping it new and fresh. They really did a great job on that game.
  7. For me personally I'd have to say Breath of the Wild even though I think I disliked it a bit more once I fully completed it compared to when I first started it. It was the first time I had been really excited about a game in a while and was a pretty unique experience starting with so little direction in such a vast game. Other games I really enjoyed were Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, and a Link Between Worlds for Nintendo. Resident Evil 2 Remake was my favourite PS game. Strider and Shovel Knight were both great platformers/classic games. Games I haven't played that seem really popular would be Dark Souls, Last Of Us, Minecraft, GTA V, Witch 3 and RDR off the top of my head which I think are all mentioned in this thread.
  8. For sure. I initially started collecting to get my favourite games CIB but along the way I picked up way more than that mainly during the first part of this decade. Over the last few years I've slowly been selling to get back to my initial goal and significantly trim the collection. I realize I haven't touched some of these games since I bought them and others I just don't care about enough to own a physical copy (emulate) so they'll be gone eventually. I'd rather take the money and use it on other things rather than it being tied up as an insignificant display piece. I still love the bulk of my collection though but don't actively want or look for anything.
  9. I played these games in sequence and still have a hard time playing 3 or VC. I do love VC's atmosphere and music the most; better than SA and the gangsta vibe but those few aspects male not as enjoyable. I kinda hate the map layout on VC too.
  10. Mario 64 but honestly Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour would be a close second and I play it way more than any main Mario game these days.
  11. That's strange since they pay for that up front. They would have known as soon as they purchased if it was through GSP as it would have been added to the total at checkout. I almost gave a negative for slow shipping for something I bought a few months ago that got held up through the GSP but I realized that it wasn't the sellers fault. GSP is also shit because once it hits the border there is no way to track it even though they give you a tracking number. I know I'm a broken record but god damn that program it so terrible.
  12. The silver lining is this place is definitely more active than NA was in the last year or two of its life. It's crazy how fast NA fell apart though and then the changes GC made were just a slap in the face - it'd be a challenge to make a website that poorly this day in age. I was on NA for about 9 years but was never emotionally attached to the site but I can definitely understand the resentment towards Dain and the whole transaction - kinda like a captain selling a good ship for scrap without notifying the crew.
  13. I think Contra 3 has a great difficulty setting although may still be tough on 'Easy' for some since you still die in one hit. But 'hard' is fair when you get really good at the game which is the way it should be (it essentially speeds up the game and gives the bosses more energy). Star Wars games are a good example of poor difficulty settings. The 'normal/brave' setting is really tough even when you're not bad at the game and know where to find health upgrades and blaster power-ups. The 'Jedi' setting is just brutal, especially on Empire Strikes Back. One of the hardest games on SNES from my experience. There are stages that I think are pretty much unbeatable if you lose you blaster power-up. It's also a long game. Star Wars games were definitely ones I used to play on Easy almost exclusively to actually enjoy the game.
  14. Exactly. Amazing game that I played over and over when it was first released. I think it still holds up OK but the aiming, swimming, and a few other aspects they added really made SA that much better. My wife plays GTA and started with SA. I tried to get her to play 3 and she really didn't like it. Tony Hawk and Burnout are a few other series I can think of that were initially great games but the more refined sequels were even better. I think the same could be said about SMB vs SMB3 where the 3rd is absolutely awesome but has the same skeleton as SMB.
  15. GTA is the same. People say GTA 3 was the greatest and it was definitely the biggest jump but so many things got fixed as the series progressed. I enjoy San Andres way more than 3 now but 3 is still the more important game in the series with the foundation it brought for everything that came after it. For the greatest game I would stick to the big titles like Tetris, pacman, SMB, DOOM, etc. That are getting inducted into the hall of fame. Currently probably games like WoW and Minecraft even though I've never played either game. If BoTW had dedicated dungeons it would have probably been one of the best games from a subjective standpoint. I think Chrono Trigger would be up there too and I'm not even a huge RPG fan but that game is pretty amazing from every aspect.
  16. Grades are business. They'd grade the glue holding the flaps of a Nintendo cereal box together if you sent it to them. No leaky glue A++ seal.
  17. Looks like Resident Evil 3 remake will be on Switch. 2020.
  18. Good point about the controls. Some of those games are rough to play with the default control layouts. I think they do that because they may be the most user friendly but if you can use to some of the other setups they're superior in my opinion. It absolutely blows my mind that some of these games offer more customization than current console games which limit you to pre-selected layouts.
  19. There's definitely a few games that are worth picking up and playing and they're pretty cheap too. Mission Impossible I just shit on a bit but it is still worth going through. It definitely offers things that 007 doesn't and does have a few neat levels to mix up gameplay. I was a little disappointed recently as I loved it as a kid and it didn't quite hold up to memory. Doom 64 is great. Probably have to bump your brightness but has a killer atmosphere. I was surprised at how well Winback played after not playing it for years. Good 3rd person shooter that almost feels like a light gun game. Definitely an overlooked game for most people. Although KI Gold doesn't hold up to KI2 it's still a pretty fun fighting game and MK Trilogy is similar. Great classic MK game. Definitely some other fun ones out there. Chameleon Twist 1 and 2 are a little rough around the edges but fun platformers. Mischief Makers is pretty fun too. It's also easier to play 64 if you avoid HD games for a while and acclimatize yourself. Some other fun games listed in this thread that are outside the typical 1st party stuff.
  20. El Gado and Hollywood in Final Fight are annoying. Super fast recovery and a cheap move set. Birds in Ninja Gaiden although they can be spawned off screen in most cases. Whoever is in 2nd in Super Mario Kart. The specific item spam is ridiculous.
  21. Just an FYI your games charts are unreadable on the dark theme. Look good when switched back to the default theme.
  22. Brb gotta add *As SeEn On PaWn StArZ* to all my eBay listings.
  23. 64 is really hit and miss. Some games still hold up gameplay wise but definitely look rougher than we remember. The big problem with most 64 games are the graphics and clunky cameras. I played through Mission Impossible a few weeks ago and the controls, AI, and foggy graphics were much worse than I remember. Still enjoy some of the good games on the system though. Completely agree about OoT being boring as shit for the first half of the game. A big part of that comes from playing it too much though... Those games aren't really designed to run straight from point A to B. When you're child Link you're essentially running from dialogue to dialogue with very little action but that's broken up by exploring when you first play it.
  24. Same in Canada. Lots of cops and RCMP abusing power and being butt holes.
