A little from column a, and a lot from column b.

I want to make a printed guide to prevent another NA from happening; but I also plan on giving all the data away for free for non-commercial use.

I also want to incentivize and reward people for being a part of the community without having to run a community myself. (That’s a job in itself, right @Gloves?)

Sorry Twizer! But you know the saying, you snooze you miss the early worm or something like that.

Im still paying well for photos of ALL nwcs, even known copies as long as they’re not photos already in my archive. Known copies have a much smaller bounty though.

What if someone owns an NWC and sends you like, a photo from every imaginable angle?

You make me want to play through this game again, and maybe I will.  It's probably been at least 10 years for me as well.

Quick question since you are clearly pretty familiar with this game.  Did you ever play MGS4?  Specifically, the part in the game when you go back and visit Shadow Moses?  Talk about amazing.

Also, what are your thoughts on MSG Twin Snakes?  Do you play to play through it at all for this blog, or are you focusing just on PS1?

I've played the shit out of MGS4 (I have the platinum trophy), I love the game (and the whole series). 🙂

I DO intend to play through Twin Snakes soon just to experience it, as it's one of two games in the series I've actually NOT played at all! (the other being Acid)

I don't know if you realized the replay value of PE1 but after beating the game if you play through it again there is a new location you can go to. The new location is the Chrysler building and if you make it to the top you get the true ending of the game. I beat the game back when I was 12 or so and didn't realize there was more to do until I decided to play the game again when I was like 16.

Climbing to the top isn't for most but if you truly loved the game, I'd recommend it. If you do decide to, don't forget to use your Bonus Points after completing the game.

I did the Chrysler Building! Super fun!

MGS is one of my favorite games of all time. Love the write up and it might just inspire me to do a write up on my favorite game on PS1, Parasite Eve!

Niiiiice. I loved Parasite Eve when I played it last year. Definitely a top game, it's too bad I missed it as a kid. Happily, not having many games as a kid means finding tons of gems as an adult!

Oh Metal Gear Solid. God, the first game I broke my teeth on for the genre. I was 21, 22 when I FINALLY beat it. And to this day, close but no cigar. Its his second half of the battle that gets me.

If you wanna feel REALLY bad, go watch an All Bosses speed run of the game. Makes you feel... Insignificant.

I haven't been commenting, but I've been reading and enjoying all of these posts.  MGS was one of my favorite PS1 games.  I was lucky enough to buy it used and cheap just a few weeks after it was released because a friend of mine in high school bought it on launch day and beat it in a week before selling it to me.

A lot of the things you point out are funny to me because I remember thinking something similar back in the day.  The Codec conversations usually seem to occur during inappropriate times.  Why can't Snake steal the stealth camouflage from the dead soldiers?

Also, you are correct that by passing Ocelots torture, you will get the infinite ammo bandanna.  I always thought that the stealth camo was a better item than the bandanna even though you only get it by failing the torture and getting the bad ending.

Thematically it kinda makes sense, as in the bad ending you ride off with Otacon. In either ending, if I recall, the character you have with you presents you with the game clear item. Meryl gives you the bandana, and otacon hands you a stealth camo.

Otacon gives you the sneaky item cuz he can't fight, whereas Meryl gives infinite ammo cuz she represents the action oriented side more.

I might do a playthroughs and fail on purpose to get stealth came so I can manually go through each area without fear of being caught, so I can memorize enemy patterns. Probably not though.

Thanks for sharing and for the info Gloves!  There are so many games for PS2 (my favorite console of all time) that while I've played a ton of PS2 games, there are plenty that I just never got around to checking out.  This is one such game.  I've heard of it and was loosely familiar with it, but never owned it and just never made any effort to seek it out or try it.  I read your review and watched some brief gameplay videos, and it looks like a fun action game and I'm open to checking it out at some point.   I find information and reviews on less common or less well-known games, much more interesting at this point.  Thanks!

Interestingly enough there's next to no information whatsoever online about this game in the form of guides or walkthroughs. A few people have done playthroughs on YouTube and there are some "cheats" (actually just telling you what you unlock for beating the arena mode levels, not exactly cheats), but no actual INFO.

One thing I didn't mention in the review too is that the game is playable with two players! No way I was going to convince my wife to play so it was a solo affair for me, but it could definitely be really fun with a friend!
