So on the lighter side, I started researching past elections. Found this weird:

1976 is the earliest election we have had that still has at least one candidate (Prez or VP) still alive. In fact, three are still alive: Jimmy Carter, his VP Walter Mondale, and Bob Dole, the now deceased Ford's VP candidate. (3)

For 1980, Carter and Mondale are still alive. The two Republicans, Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush have passed. (2)

For 1984, only Mondale is still alive. His VP candidate, Geraldine Ferraro, and Reagan/Bush have passed. (1)

For 1988, VP Dan Quayle and Michael Dukakis are alive, but Bush and Lloyd Benson (Dukakis's running mate) are dead. (2)

In 1992, only Bush is dead. Quayle, Bill Clinton and Al Gore are alive. (3)

For the record, 2000 is the earliest election with all four candidates still alive.

Jack Kemp, Dole's running mate in 1996, passed away, but the others are still kicking.

Carter is the only president I was ever physically close to, or even saw live.  We passed each other at an airport (Chicago, I think) probably 15 or 20 years ago. I was curious enough that I looked up his schedule and, sure enough, he was on his way to some house building gig.

I don't think he recognized me.

I just got back from Home Depot only to find out all their mops were sold out. Apparently MAGA hat wearing Republicans needed to clean up their tears.

Suspect there was also an atypical load of mop buying due to W.A.P. related Halloween costumes...

I don't know what qualifies a person to be a lawmaker, but I assume it's something.  Anything.

Georgia and North Carolina I swear to God...

Now a days for the republican party, its just pledging fealty to an Un-american fascist and being a “own the libs” try-hard.

We the People Convention suggests Trump "declare limited Martial Law to temporarily suspend the Constitution" in order to hold a presidential election re-vote overseen by the military.

How anyone can defend such shit is beyond me! Anyone know the answer? Seems to me that not long ago someone trying to get a president to declare martial law and suspend the Constitution would be labelled a traitor and tyrant. So, yeah. He's a traitor and tyrant.

Thats what you get with years of selective in-breeding 😂😂😂- people that support this garbage.

Speaking of complete fucking idiots, Trump’s “lawyers” are telling people not to vote in the senate runoff -

'They have not earned your vote': Trump allies urge Georgia Republicans to sit out Senate runoffs

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/12/02/trump-allies-urge-georgia-republicans-sit-out-senate-runoffs/3800126001/

I hope all the MAGAts don’t vote, and the state turns fully blue and democrats get the senate through the VP. Then maybe congress can get something done.

Maybe by then McConnells hands will be so black from embalming fluid the other republicans will do everything in their power to take his vote away .

The vast majority of his adult years have been spent with a trump presidency or agressive Trump campaigning. He has no idea what conservative policies are. Best I can tell, they consist of "winning" and "making libs cry".

If I lived in his district, I would move. Clearly I don't have anything in common with my neighbors at that point!

Trump policies are conservative policies.

I read something a couple months ago, and wish I could find it.  It basically laid out the trouble we are in.  Where partisanship gets bad enough that winning is rationalized at any cost; even democracy.  Fear of the "other side" driving extreme acts.

And lo and behold, that is exactly what a large portion of our nation is hoping for.

Defeating the "socialists" is all they care about.  Downstream impacts be damned.  Politics = sports now.
