  1. The first part of the game is just too brutally slow and boring. I really want to like this game and love some of the ideas, but it's way too slow/tedious for me. I beat it back in the day and tried to get into it a number of times before dragging my ass through the 3DS version which I felt obligated to complete. 5/10
  2. Agreed. Even after going back to it when I was older and knew what was going on I still didn't enjoy it. Super Metroid is probably my favourite game of all time overall.
  3. ahh yes... the one where Mega Man takes on an overly concerned Heihachi.
  4. Haha my first thought too... Must be Spark Man's weak spot
  5. Probably should have just voted on both movies at the same time.
  6. Admiring some of my CIBs that are in excellent condition, especially some of my favourite games. Traded a Panic Restaurant cart for these two CIBs and $300 around 2015. Still worth it considering the condition of these in my opinion. So fresh.
  7. Taxes are so stupid. I spent money on Turbo Tax and when I filed I got an instant correction because I forgot to put money towards an RRSP payback. What is the point of wasting time and money doing my taxes if the CRA knows exactly what I owe?
  8. When there is something roaming in a game that's out to get you is a good mechanic that typically makes me a little anxious, especially if you're actively being chased. Resident Evil (Mr.X), Clock Tower, Dead Space, Silent Hill, Alien, etc. Oddly, Sonic with the air bubbles and that panic music always got me when I was younger playing in the water sections of S2. Stress free? Hmmm... I can say that Breath of the Wild was the first game in a long time that I thoroughly enjoyed just farting around and the atmosphere was often quite pleasant with the rain/music on the more secluded parts of the map. You could play for a while without seeing any real threats and that was fine with how the game is designed.
  9. Yeah.. not sure as I am very good with my electronics and treat all my stuff well. The dock always felt like cheap crap, even right out of the box. The joy-cons and the game slot are a little frustrating though as they've been an issue pretty much from the start (joy-cons were drifting by the end of my first Mario play through). Anyway, not the end of the world as everything works well enough, but definitely not impressed compared to all my past Nintendo consoles. Splatoon 2 used to give me a lot of trouble to get going.. sometimes 4 or 5 tries and I bought it brand new. Both of my brothers recently bought OLED models and they do feel a bit better and they have not had any issues yet (6months in) so maybe they are slightly higher quality or maybe I just got a janky Switch. The screens are definitely a step above in quality.
  10. I have the Mario bundle and the quality was/is hot garbage. I barely used my Switch for a while and never travel with it and both joycons drift quite a bit (I fixed them for the most part), the HDMI port on my dock is super loose for some reason now, and it usually takes a few tries to read the game depending on the cartridge and I even have trouble getting games in and out sometimes. Likely gonna upgrade to this one as I plan on buying the game anyway and could use and extra set of joy-cons and would like an updated console. I think the Switch will likely be around for another few years at least before an updated version beyond this or we get a whiff of a new console. Edit: oops, I'm trippin'. I thought it came with a copy of the game. In that case I'll likely pass.
  11. 'Crafting' will be a big part of the game since it's one of Link's abilities but I hope it's no more complicated or expected than say cooking in botw (relatively easy to not get caught up in and can play a minor role if you choose) . I can tell you upfront that I have no ambition to build a 10-20 piece vehicle in a Zelda game... it's not what the series should be about, so I'll be interested to see how far this ability or mechanic plays into the game. I did like the crafting of weapons though as that may take away some of the frustration with the first one when you're looking around for a good weapon during the first part of the game when now you can grab a stick and a rock and mess up some enemies. I think this will be a great game overall and I'm sure Nintendo has thought of some really amazing stuff given that they started with a great foundation from Botw. I have that weekend off too
  12. I'm almost more interested to see how quickly this game gets busted with some of the new features than playing myself haha. Kidding aside, I am really excited to play and I hope that there are some more serious dungeons than BoTW. I am actually looking forward to playing the game having the knowledge from Botw since a lot will surly be similar. My only slight concern after watching the demo is that the building/combining of stuff will be such a massive part of the game that it could become tedious like a LEGO simulator or something.
  13. Just beat Metroid Dread last night. Really liked the game overall. Felt like they rushed the 2nd half of the game as they give you an item in what feels like every other room while conveniently guiding you through the areas. Last boss was a little weird for a Metroid game but other than that it's a great game overall. Looking forward to 100% and beating it on the harder difficulties.
  14. My wife and I talk about having a child from time to time but we've come to the conclusion that having kids just isn't for us. I think we would be great parents and could support a child (even though the cost of just about everything is through the roof), but it's just not what we want. I am probably gonna get a vasectomy.
  15. All I remember is the crock clock and the kid rolling down the plank as a ball and knocking a bunch a people over. On those two events which may or may not be real I give it a 6.
  16. Just beat Mega Man 4 but had something I've never had happen before. I was on the 8-man boss rush and Drill was the last one. We were both one-shot and I was at the far edge of the screen from the teleport and he was walking towards me. I fired a Dive Missile and then jumped to try and dodge his drill and him as he was walking under me. My Dive missile killed him but the explosion from the drill killed me. But since he was right under me I got the large energy power-up the same frame I got killed by the explosion. I died and had 10 sticks left in my energy meter. The other interesting thing is when you typically die at the same time as the boss you replay the boss, but I'm guessing since the game checked that I had energy left it respawned me in the main chamber with Dr. Wiley's capsule available as if I killed Drill Man. Kinda stupid but thought I'd share as that has never happened to me in all my years playing MM.
  17. Boiled up my good one again, which is also our childhood system. Did the method on the top YT video. Boil for 5 min, insert a clean game a dozen times, boil for 5 more min. The grip is definitely tighter on the few games I played. I won't know for sure how well it worked until I put in more time but I played through the 8 guys in MM4 with no reset (which was the last game it messed up on). Also booted up 3 or 4 other games first try, so it has improved for the time being. I also am not pressing the carts down any more... was there ever a reason for this?.. seemed pointless even back in the day.
  18. I think that's how I got here with my original NES... I cleaned it by boiling it way back and it worked great but slowly over time gave out again. I remember trying to pinch the pins together and it worked for quite some time, but then seemed to reset even more frequently once it started to have trouble. The other connector I have on the used one I bought is visibly warped. In fact, I pushed one of the pins right out putting in a game one day. I didn't realize they sold authentic pin connectors. I'll likely try that route first and then move on to some of the other suggestions. I'd really like to stay with og hardware and avoid buying a clone system. From the reviews sometimes the colors/sound are way off and seems like a few games like Battletoads crash regularly. Thanks for the input people.. helped a lot. I let ya know how the fix goes.
  19. Hey all, My NES has really been giving me trouble lately with random freezes/resets. I opened it and cleaned it a few times over the years but it slowly gets worse again and can be really frustrating if you are well into a game. I bought a used NES for cheap and had even more trouble with this system. I opened it up and saw that the pins had been replaced, so it's more or less garbage as far as I'm concerned with this cheap, aftermarket pin set. My question is.. should I go out and try to get another NES and hope that I have a better luck or just buy one of these cheap clone consoles like Hyperkin Retron 1 which are around $40? I've heard these can have bad sound and a slightly different color than og hardware but I am getting tired of the random resets and having to fiddle with carts to get it to work. I will be playing this on a CRT exclusively and it's just to replace my NES. I assume that playing a clone console on a CRT would not have any lag? That is far and beyond the most important thing to me. I have no interest in the high-end HD clone systems. Thanks.
  20. I like all the f-zero games but never really got in to any of them for whatever reason. 7.
  21. Mario. I remember hearing a game store clerk trying to help a mom figure out which GBA Mario game her son wanted as a present... it was like the 'Who's on first' skit.
  22. I hate all clothes... basically wear gym shorts year round and maybe a shirt when it's cold.
  23. This exactly where I've been for the last 3 or 4 years. I am very grateful and content with what I have but I went a little nuts in 2014-2017 basically collecting as a habit since in retrospect I already had what I wanted. As a result, I just have a bunch of overstock stuff that I have little motivation to sell for various reasons. If there was a local game store still around I'd be tempted just to dump a bunch of it on the doorstep.
  24. I met a local collector on NA back around 2013 when I was posted away for work. We got chatting about games and as the conversation continued it became almost eerie about our life similarities. We had the same first name, were born only a few days apart at the same hospital/city, both got our BSc from the same university and graduated the same year (was likely in some of my intro classes), had moved to this relatively small city at the same time for work, had long term girlfriends with the same name and we ended up knowing a few mutual friends/people and this was the first time I had every met or talked to this guy. I made a thread about it on NA back in the day as it was almost unbelievable.
