  1. All true. I can admit, though. I don't care to be a "rounded" gamer. There are some genres I hate and don't bother playing at all, haha. I get it, though. I mean, I like discovering new games too, of course. Like when I saw Gloves play Adventures of Dino Riki and I thought to myself "Why in the hell haven't I played this game??" Does that count? Haha... I lol'd thinking about the old man yelling at clouds. Okay, so if you want to use the film analogy and go all the way to silent films, then yeah.... it's impossible to say movies haven't gotten "better". But I'd argue that's strictly from a technical perspective, and doesn't account for the "heart" or quality of the film. Because you can't fault those filmmakers for the technical limitations they faced because there just simply wasn't any technology to make the films any differently at the time. Sure, the technical abilities were very limited, so it's a stretch, but if you use the examples of films that were at least able to use some editing and music and they are still considered great films. Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz.... So if you take a recent film like Space Jam: a New Legacy and compare it to Wizard of Oz... sure, Space Jam is technically "better" but because it's newer does that make it a BETTER film? I think not. So when you bring that to video games, I'd say that some of the games on NES are the "greatest" because of the quality of the game itself, not necessarily its technical capacities. The stories told given the limited capacity and game design for SOME games (I can fully admit about 80% of the NES library is trash) is basically PERFECT. The tightness of controls in Contra, DD2, or SMB3 for example. I find "new" games especially platformers and beat 'em ups, lose some of that quality of control. Is it because of the joystick, the more complicated graphics/game coding, the wireless controller, my own personal biases, etc??? I don't know.... but new games never "feel" as good. Also, I will readily admit that the NES controller is my favourite of all time, and I dislike other controllers because they don't "feel" as comfortable. I guess what I'm saying is.... I refuse to move on from what's comfortable in my life and in no way does that reflect any subconscious need for comfort at all. I hear ya... there are infinite new games, while some we know are limited.... it's not the entire base, it's just part of it. The "unknown" is something is typically something I'd want to avoid when dealing with frog dong making Wizards, that's all. Also, I don't know about the last part, you said it, haha.
  2. That's weird... I ONLY have games that start with "U".
  3. Well that went down pretty quick... Wild hypothetical here. Depends on the circumstances and where this game was when I found it how much I'd offer..... Value Village, buy that shit and run. Local thrift store in the church basement? BUY. THAT. SHIT. AND. RUN! Haha, jokes.... but I'm not a big believer in the churches in general....so.... I'd buy and and make a decent donation some other time. Game store... tell them what they have and split the profit with them. Nah... Buy that shit and run. Old lady selling her kids' stuff so she can buy groceries... I would tell her.
  4. Hmmm... the "science" seems a bit dubious. Also, to be clear.... I'd like to use Double Dragon 2 as the example here. DD isn't that great of a game. It was Brickman, quoted here: I'm not going to lose sleep over not playing DD2 or Battletoads, but knowing I'll never play them again would be big shoes to fill for new games. Yeah, I get it. I mean.... experiencing new things IS important. But we're talking about video games here. Are playing new games helping you evolve your character on important subjects of the world? Probably not... I get what you're saying.... although I haven't played THAT many NES/SNES games (average I thought?) so for me it's more about the unknown. If you choose the "new games" option, then you have NO IDEA what you're getting yourself into and could very well not enjoy some of the games. Whereas, with the "games you've played" option, you at least know that you'll be able to go back to the "classics" that you know and love. So... one option you KNOW you will love, and the other option is a "maybe". So I would 100% pick the guaranteed win.... especially when SMB3 is part of the equation. Posturing...? Me? Like... trying to make something more important that it actually is? Isn't that EVERYTHING we do here?
  5. I didn't bring Cuphead into the comparison.... Not as good as game X or game Y.... you HOPE! I understand the cliches, especially the one about stagnanting.... but.... that's not my style. Not my jam. I'm not picking up what you're putting down. Not my cup of tea. Other cliches.
  6. Thank you. And thank you to @ThePhleo for that. Awesome work. Followed
  7. I trust Link above... Wasn't there an entire thread/forum based on the numbering of the "documented" NWC's at one point? I forget who kept track of it, but each number that was "documented" had an owner and they were searching for them "all".
  8. Okay, yes. You have the memories. Yeah.... I can play all the old games I HAVEN'T played. Thank god I get to play *checks notes NOTHING GOOD on NES. You luck out because you can still play Mega Man.... 3-6 are good too. That's something you have going for you. But Brickman, please. You can't just sit there and type out the sentence "Battletoads, Double Dragon 2, and TMNT aren't that great." and think that's okay. WHUT. IN. THE. FUQ. ARE. WE. TALKING. ABOUT? I fully understand the forum's been resurrected as "Video Game Sage" (thank god ) .... but.... camman.... what's the majority of games/systems played/discussed here? NES/SNES I would say.... And you're going to sit there and type that BLASPHEMY!!!??? Battletoads and Double Dragon 2 are two of the greatest (and OG) beat 'em ups in the HISTORY OF HISTORY. Yeah sure, run around with your fancy cups and heads but you'll never get to tornado kick a muhfucka off a cliff again. Nor will you ever get to smash a guy off the screen with a comically large fist or foot. That's what you'll have to live with.
  9. Okay.... so you check out Mario Wonder, and it's trippy and that's kinda neat, but what if... WHAT IF... it's not as good as SMB3, and it doesn't give you that nostalgic fuelled feeling of pure calm and comfort??? WHAT THEN??? Mario Wonder is probably good, but not great when you compare it to SMB3. Okay so you get to play your "new" game a few times, but you'll always be left knowing that you will NEVER get to play SMB3 again. You will never know the thrill of finding a hidden Tanooki suit and changing into a statue to evade your enemies ever again. NEVER. You are willing to bet this feeling just because you want to "try it out". What is this world coming to? Also... in all seriousness.... Yeah there's probably some really cool games coming out that are going to melt my brain. I get that. I respect that. Just funny because this forum is based on love of all the OLD games most of us have played since childhood which we're still holding onto. People are willing to risk that (AND the modern games they've played up to this point) for games that "might" be good??? Can't imagine being like "Nope... never going to play SMB3, Contra, Double Dragon II, or ANY OTHER SWEET GAME FROM THE NES I'VE EVER PLAYED. Battletoads, nope. TMNT, nope. Mega Man, NOPE! Fuck the Blue Bomber!!! He's dead to me!" Camman.
  10. DIdn't realize she was the mom in Step by Step. Loved me some Three's Company though. Would be interesting to watch it now as an adult. I've seen bits but not full episodes in their entirety.
  11. I can imagine the Pro controller being top notch for Beat 'em ups like Shredder's and 3D games like Mario Odyssey.... Hopefully Mario Kart. The joy cons suck shit for that game. The joy cons are so tiny... like they were made for ants! They need to be at least 3x bigger! I guess since they were made for families/kids they're so small but with the tiny little buttons it makes it awkward for me. Hence the adapter thingies and the Pro Controller I guess.
  12. Still have mine from purchasing it.... at a local shopping mall. I recall going into the mall... going to SAM the record man, checking the price, then going to the other CD store (fuck, can't remember the name...) and comparing the prices as I did with all my CD purchases. One was usually $1-2 less than the other, but it differed.... Hits include Green Day's Dookie, Jagged Little Pill, and Clumsy by Our Lady Peace. Actually, Clumsy I bought at lunch in highschool at a store downtown as the mall was further away and I couldn't wait.
  13. Wow. What a pickle. But... not really a tough decision, just not great to be cornered by a Wizard demanding you make a decision or get your weiner turned into a frog. Scary situation! CLEARLY the games I've already played. These muh-fuckas out here saying they want to "experience something new" and FORGET Super Mario Bros. 3???? The FUQ are we talking about here? You going to play an updated version of COD/GTA for the rest of your life? Super Mario Bros. 3 is all we got!
  14. Dang. Controllers are a big issue for me. If the controller doesn't feel comfortable, it's hard to "get into" the game. I have not enjoyed using the little "joy-cons" ever, so I haven't looked seriously at getting a Switch. I thought the Pro controller was going to be the answer. That's unfortunate. How you find the Switch online NES ones? So... bot? I don't understand WHY? Who would set up a bot do do such a thing? Or someone using AI for a response to join in? I'm dumb.
  15. Yeah... when I go to a restaurant and they have a "veggie" burger but it's just the Beyond Burger I think that's just lazy. No man... it's okay. Some veggie "meats" ARE terrible. I've had plenty of the Hot dogs/veggie "meats" that are nasty, it's okay for us to admit it. Haha, some of the crumble "meat" ones are good in chili/spaghetti sauce/tacos, though. There's a couple times/year I'll buy the hotdogs. I also use some of the sliced meat replacements for sandwiches, too. Personally for tacos, though, I prefer to just put the taco seasoning mix into some fried peppers & onions. Broccoli Meat or Meaty Broccoli???
  16. Edge/Adam Copeland in AEW. Incredible promo with him and Christian. Would be cool to see that come full circle. At first I thought ti was neat... but I'm afraid Tony Khan will just fuck it up like he's doing the Hardy's (random matches here and there and crazy no DQ matches sprinkled in for no reason) but there's still time. Hopefully they'll get it figured out. The initial stuff with Christian has been great.
  17. Love the title of the game. My History Teacher Ate Lemons. Perfect! Maybe try something like this: https://hemclear.com/
  18. Never got into it because your weapon sucks and you just walk around not knowing what the fuck is going on... I just learned you can grind to upgrade your weapon and such... probably still not my jam.
  19. Can you play this game with the NES style controller? Not sure, but even using the Switch Pro controller D-pad might be awkward. The NES controller is the greatest of all time for platformers, as it's D-pad and control was so tight. Especially with a game like Contra and the dodging when you jump.
  20. Sorry, double post trying to edit above.
  21. I'm not sure you're understanding the concept of being a "flexitarian". Also, I get the joke.... but if you're actually serious about needing meat in EVERY meal, you really need to expand your culinary brain. There's uncountable meals that can be made sans meat that would probably melt your brain if you were open minded enough to make it. Do you sprinkle bacon/other meats into your cereal? Sorry... Cereal is only part of a balanced breakfast. Balanced with what? BACON!!! Saw the sad face for the comment too.... I assume you're being sarcastic, but if not.... let's be real here: If someone, presumably someone who eats meat regularly, thinks that tacos can NOT be delicious without meat, then that person is just lying to themselves. It's literally, objectively, untrue. If myself, a vegetarian, can admit/recognize that a place like McDonalds DOES taste good (loves me some McChickens... as they are literally designed to be tasty) then someone who eats meat should at least be able to recognize that meals without meat can be made to be tasty as well. It's insane to think otherwise. There's literally ground meat substitute that they make that you can use, and if prepared properly, I bet you wouldn't even be able to tell against your grocery store (presumably, haha) ground beef. Like I said... it's all about how you prepare the ingredients you're using. Coming from someone who LOVES tacos and grew up eating them with lots of meat (family even eats them on Christmas instead of turkey), and now not eating meat and still loving tacos.... it's very very possible.
  22. Hmmm... no, don't think it was MCT. I think it was Flaxseed Oil... maybe? I'd have to go over to a Bulk Barn and just find the bottle. I can't seem to think of it/look it up. Yeah, I immediately feel more energized after a shake, specially with the mixed greens.
