  1. 8/10 I was thinking the score might be so high because of nostalgia... and it's been a while since I actually played it. But still... 8. Looking forward to giving it a good play-through now after reading all the posts, though. Starting with that Adventure mode Haha.... this is me. Kind of. I got it for Christmas anyways. Played the shit out of it as a kid, but never had to defend it against MK64, or really bothered to compare it, really. Kind of makes you wonder what happened to DK's parents? I mean... Diddy's as well? They kinda gloss over that. Like.... yeah DK is Cranky's grandson, but what about Cranky's kid??? Did Mario fuck him up one day? I guess it could have been Cranky's daughter and DK's mom....? And DK's brother/Diddy's Dad.... where he at? I guess it could be DK's sisters kids...? Maybe these questions are answered somewhere.... I only played DK64 for like 5 minutes and don't remember them discussing it in the TV series.
  2. This begs the question: What constitutes a "series"? Namesake only? Because Mario has been mentioned.... And Super Mario Bros. would potentially be my pick as well. But where is the cut-off? Dr. Mario? Mario's Time Machine? Are Super Mario 64 & Galaxy included? I'm assuming this is across different platforms.... I think this is the best choice for myself as well. When you consider Galaxy, Odyssey, etc. then you're looking at a good variety. Kind of bending the rules a bit? I asked above, haha. What about Mario Kart? They're all Mario, but I would probably say they are different series'. Yeah... good point. Just expanded on it a bit myself. What's the cut-off? Because if Mario's Time Machine is included then SIGN ME UP!
  3. Interesting, didn't know that. Thank you. Still, though. The assumption is that the link is there for that particular game. And in Amazon's case, it's a shitty place to buy NES games. Now there's an eBay link. Which I assume works in a similar way? This is what I meant by "it depends on your philosophy". And of course how much $$$ you can bring in with the links. If you're using it to help fund the site, then of course you need it. But if the collecting tool is powerful (good?) enough then I would say it's better to not have the links. This website seems best suited for people who want a "Collection Tracker". Hopefully the crew there can find the market they need and get it all figured out.
  4. Hot dang.... this one is $400 CAD.... I do believe #2 and #3 are there as well. Most are ~$20, but <#20 and they jump. I just paid $70 for #6 I grabbed a bunch (6, 11, 13, 18, 22, 24, 27, 36, 55) at some lower prices. Took some in worse shape, but most had posters, etc. I averaged them out to about $20 each so I was happy about that. I did balk on the #1-3, though. I think they would have been like $600 for all 3.... sssssooooo..... I left them for now. Yeah, I hear ya on the lot deal. That would be best. Just happened to come across some at the local video game shop. I'm trying to get as many as I can in the NES/SNES Era. As soon as it jumps into N64 I'm out. I've got one "later" issue (#69) and they change the cover design to a more "90's"/"hardcore" aesthetic which I really don't like. Plus as the magazine gets away from the NES games, I'm not so interested.
  5. Can anyone help me with some pricing? Although I don't have pictures.... there's a copy of Issue #1 at a local store, ungraded. Not in great shape but pretty decent. Is it stupid to ask what everyone thinks is a "good price" for it without providing pictures? I'm in Canada as well... Haha, shit.... I should have looked closer at it's condition.... my bad. They have a bunch of early ones. 1, 2, 3....
  6. Thanks for the shout-out. Nice. The site looks nice, like I said before. I guess it depends on your philosophy and how you want to present the site, in terms of how many games you want to come up/view. I can see the "box art" approach being better for hardcore collectors (maybe someone who is going for a complete CIB set) but a list view might be better for someone who is just wanting to find games from their childhood/recommendations..... So yeah, kind of depends who you are targeting. For someone who wants to literally use your collection tracker function, they can input their games and they're done. For others, who use the site as a "pricing resource", maybe not (as it's not super easy to scroll through the game list to check out prices to update their own Excel sheet, for example. Al prices are in USD as well...). So I guess it depends who you want to use the site. Re: The Amazon link deal, once again, depends on your philosophy vs. how much $$$ you can bring in with the links. Like others have said, I'm not sure how many people actually purchase this stuff from Amazon. I certainly never have. If the links are bringing in major revenue then hell, leave them, of course. But if the revenue isn't super high, I think you might want to take that into consideration as they do somewhat detract from the overall "sanctity" of the site, and very few have the actual game available on Amazon. Neat work, either way!
  7. That Mega Man cart is all tatted up!
  8. Haha, I usually do a better job of skimming the threads... Usually. I love the "fell off a truck" aspect.
  9. Gotcha. Logical. You see... there's my problem. I've really only played pool while I was drunk. Your plans sound neat, whichever direction you decide to go.
  10. I really don't know anything about Sega, but this is pretty neat. Did they say anything else about the story? This guy buy from a store owner closing down? The shipping boxes look like the OG boxes too? Wild having that many sealed copies just chillin'.
  11. Interesting topic. Any metric, eh? I measure my collection in "awesomeness for me". So that will be the metric I will be using. Right now I'm sitting at about a 95% "awesomeness". There's still 2-3... Actually, probably like 5-10 games/things that I'd want to add to my collection to make it "perfect", but I'm pretty much there. Of course there's probably stuff out there that I haven't even considered yet, but I'm not taking that into account right now. Just grateful for what I have, really. Very well said by @spacepup . Inspiring words. 1) 425 Atari 2600 games? DAYUM! That might be a shelf filler, so I might agree with your wife to sell with that one. 2) You forgot the most important part... your full address/alarm code, etc. Please reply with that information and we can verify these numbers for you. Just let us know next time you're away for the weekend and we can take care of all the number crunching! My goodness! Those are some healthy numbers. Heck of a set-up too! But... the pool table.... can you actually play it? I've got long arms and don't think I could fit, haha. Plus I wouldn't want to smash anything behind me with the pool cue... or what if a ball goes jumping? Haha... I'm not great at pool ssssssooooo.... maybe that's on me.
  12. Well... I guess I'm even more out of touch.
  13. DRAGON SPIRIT MUHFUCKAAAAAAAASSSSS!!!! I don't care about any cliches of saving a princess, blah, blah, blah.... This game is awesome. Also... I think you have to go save your twin sister after your father is killed by a dragon, so you turn into a radical blue dragon and go kick some ass. It's the best. That is all.
  14. "Hyper tapping". Is that what the kids are calling it these days? Pretty wild. When I saw this news first break, that was one of the most incredible things to me.... was watching how these people hold the controller. I've never seen anyone do it like this one with the Tetris. I have always enjoyed the random switches of button mashing when playing NES games. Sometimes in Mike Tyson's Punch-out, sometimes in other games.... but the innate response to needing to tap the buttons faster and flipping the controller around to try to find a different way to do it has spanned the generations and now this kid is hyper-tapping his way to glory. It's amazing.
  15. You're welcome, thank YOU for coming in and responding to all the messages here. Especially a long winded one like mine, which was using out dated references. I appreciate the understanding. I like the condition range and confidence level concepts. Something like that is necessary when it comes to something so subjective as condition. I think once you get around to a "list view", that would really help with navigation. I think you've addressed all my "issues" quite well, thank you for the update. I look forward to what you've got going on in the future and will check back here and there.
  16. Funny because NA is now "nostalgic" for people here. But truly... I'm happier now that Gloves has created this video game heaven. Aside from all the information lost, of course. But I'm just so happy to be here I just want to scream it from the rooftops.
  17. Please don't swap the backs. Yes, the backs are different. There's a number (labeled as "2-digit code" on bootgod) stamped on the back label that is a piece of information. The factory I think? Not sure... There might very well be a thread about breaking it all down here. There "was"... I tried to look for Final Fantasy III on SNES, but don't have much time to go through this website... if you look through there might be a way to find it.... https://web.archive.org/web/20140921150837/http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/profile.php?id=154 This is my take on it: 1) It doesn't matter for playing the game. 2) It doesn't matter for looking at the front of the game. 3) It's authentic as is. Collectors like me want that shit to be authentic and not a "Frankenstein cart". My preference is to always leave the game together.... and you're getting a better price for a bit of "damage" then hell, even better. I like my games to have a bit of "life" to them. It doesn't even look cracked when it's together on the the back. I would take some green painters tape (easily removable and cleanable for someone who doesn't want tape on their games ) and put it on the INSIDE of the cart, to secure it slightly, then screw it back together and whammy! You can't see the crack, you've got tape on the inside holding it together that won't damage the inside or leave any glue residue... everybody wins.
  18. Wild.... I feel like I'm in a timewarp.... I clicked on this thread thinking it was new and didn't pay close attention to the dates. Interesting site... The classifications seem a bit subjective, though. The "mynty" classification and "Rarity scale" were literally said to be just made up/decided by @wu1fyy in the interview by Bird Dog..... I mean, if you want the responsibility of deciding these (incredibly high level serious and meaningful) things, then I guess that's cool? But seems like a photo from an eBay listing is a tricky way to apply a grade of quality. Kinda seems like that should be decided in a bit less of a subjective way. Seems like buddy, pardon me Wu1fyy for the informality, is just deciding "oh well this one's 'minty' and this one's not." just based on a picture.... Note: I'm looking through the website now and each game has a condition attached to it. I think this is a slippery slope. What's "minty" to you, isn't "minty" to someone else. And, just curious.... you know the term "minty" has a bit of contention in the collecting community, right? I would hope you are, at least, aware of this so you can handle it properly, PR/Marketing-wise. I've noticed lots of people on Reddit/Facebook, or look through threads here (especially back in the NA days, I remember threads upon threads where we would laugh about people saying their beat up shit was "minty").... many people are put off by someone who's selling/showing off their games and claims they are "minty". Saying things like "Check out this minty CIB, man.", or "These games are SUPER MINTY, bro!" to try to bring clout. So when you are literally calling your website this, but MORE IMPORTANTLY assigning the condition of "minty", you should probably take this into consideration. For example... I find it a bit pompous/arrogant when someone says "I've got this minty Mega Man CIB set, check it out bro!!!". Who the fuck is this guy to determine his shit is minty? Then you take a look at it and it's got wear on the corners and a crease here or there on the manuals. See what I'm saying? So the branding of the term "mynty" (and website w/ gg) I think is unique and well done, but I would be careful actually assigning this condition to games. My, humble, opinion would be to use the term "mynty" in an ironic/fanboy sense and base your branding on that, and not try to actually decide the condition of EVERY game listed on your site as you will INEVITABLY have people question your condition decisions. (Just my thoughts on your branding ) Also.... not scrubbing any data and manually inputting all the data? Did I understand that correctly? I guess that makes sense, but if the data is not input on a real-time basis it might not reflect recent sales until updated? Also, that's a shit ton of work. Good luck, though... and it's great that you've come here and answered some questions directly. As you've seen, you've got a large potential market here, and these are the folks who you would want to target. Good luck! Re: Usefulness of website... I think the website is pretty cool, however, most of the time if I'm looking up the price of a game, I just need a quick reference to know if I'm in the ballpark so I want to take a quick look.... Also, I'm probably looking at a few games. So, for example, when I go to PriceCharting, no matter how I have the games sorted, they show up in a large LIST. I scroll down the list and find the games I'm looking for, done. But your website.... has the games as large Icons, and only 12 at a time. I click "Load More" and only 12 more pop up. On the mobile site, I can basically get 1.5 games on the screen at once.... that's a LOT of scrolling to get through a couple games. So.... with over 700 games, if I want to check out Zombie Nation, and look at some Mega Man games on my way, *checks calculator, that's like 60 clicks. I guess you assume people are going to search out each individual game they are looking for? Or are you STRICTLY targeting people who are going to use this as a collection tracker, and not a casual "price checker" like myself? I do like that you have it catered to "high-end" collectors and have easily accessible variants. Neat to see the 5-screw/Tengen/Black Box/Etc. games have their own categories. Either way.... visually the website and mobile site look amazing. Well done and all the best!
  19. Haha, jokes.... I mean, of course "they" (full set collectors) never went anywhere. Not surprised to see so many people chime in. If you feel the need to "brag" about it then of course it's not for you. And I bet you'd be surprised how your friends would react if you SHOWED them the collection... not "brag" about it, but actually have them over for a "game night" and enjoy the collection with you. I'm sure it would melt people's brains. And I understand what you mean that people change and given space constraints, etc. there's just "no point" for some people to collect full sets. It makes sense. But it makes just as much sense as those people who DO have the space/time and want to collect full sets. To each their own. Collecting a full set is not for me, but that's because I decided a while back that I was only going to keep/seek out games that I liked. I basically got rid of any games that I didn't like and kept all the games I enjoyed/were nostalgic and those that were "rare" (as I already had them, why not keep them?).... but the others, gone. Why the fuck do I need a copy of Castelian? I'm NEVER going to play that shitty game. Same can be said for many others, and like you said... there's a ton of shovelware on other systems that is pointless to keep, to me. Someone else wants to stack the PS2 collection and make sure they got all the basketball and Madden games.... then have at it. I legitimately admire the dedication... my brain could not handle it.
  20. Never even thought of this.... Favourite one to fight is the final boss in Double Dragon II. Favourite in general.... Hmmmm..... Bowser in Mario 64, I guess? Good question, like @DarkTone I'm going to have to come back to this as well.
  21. That's a good way to do it, too. You gotta start from the ground up. Same with film, too.
  22. That's too old! Gotta get get them started much earlier than that. https://medium.com/message/playing-with-my-son-e5226ff0a7c3
  23. Ok.... Crew.... Give 'ol Glovesy a minute to breathe, maybe? This whole badge deal has a LOT of different things going on and the system only allows one badge at a time. @MiamiSlice I know you're stoked, but maybe add one per day/week for the first bit to let everyone get caught up....?
  24. This is great, turbo controller specifically, now I will at least have chance to get to 25. I now have a new life goal. I also enjoy how the "Collect" badges have the 50 options. Love me some purple badges!
  25. Whoa mama! Well done! Lots of work for that, so thanks for the hustle! Artwork is incredible too @T-Pac! The Rankings are awesome, and then all the badges???? And although I have no idea of what about 90% of the baubles.... eerrr.... badges are, I now strive to get some. I want some flair! (My one critique is to possibly rearrange the Rank picture and put it UNDER the personal avatar like in the picture in BlackVega's post above. I did say that before, so not trying to nag ... But no matter what, great work! Ps. Although I like being a Theif.... LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LOVE, WOW!, AGREE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, EYEROLL, THANKS, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE, LIKE!
