  1. I like it for documentation at the very least. It's not a secret that Cuphead is a Unity game or Undertale is a GameMaker game, obviously the engine to those is just the platform on which the entire game is built and they didn't just use drag and drop tools to create them. If people are going to leave VGS over it, then don't tag it, but it would be nice to have documented somewhere in any case if only to look back in future years and compare games built on NESMaker to games built on some other future engine, etc. I'm just a player and data junkie though, not a fancy game dev.
  2. Taxi Driver - Obviously a classic. The amount of editing/continuity "errors" stuck with me. This movie definitely made me feel like I'm losing my mind. Child's Play - Curse of Chucky was way too good to be straight to DVD IMO and I kind of rate the new Child's Play movies against that now. This new one isn't bad but it's not awesome. There's definitely going to be a teddy bear sequel.
  3. I think Mario easy beats Zelda in the importance category (which is what this first print hype is all about right). Mario launched the console and took 8-bit gaming to the next level. Mario is the one on Nintendo signage, not Link. Even SMB3 I'd argue is a more iconic NES game than Zelda if it's just down to what's the most recognizable/beloved game. SMB would win by default anyway though because it's the one with the rarest variant.
  4. I made a list of every single free/pay what you want $0.01 game from 2017 or 2018 and was floored, it was dozens and dozens of high quality few-years-old games. Kids today have so much excellent choice in free entertainment, I'm so jealous. You could go a whole year easily without spending money on video games now!
  5. Nah, people love Nintendo. No one cares about Pitfall.
  6. Fun idea for a thread. Hard to block multiple years into a single game. Feels like leaving so much out! Commander Keen in Goodbye Galaxy / Kaboom! - I'm not sure what the first game I played was but Keen on my grandpa's 286 or Kaboom on my Dad's 2600 are two very fun ones that stick out. Sonic 2 - Genesis was my first console of my own, and I played Sonic 2 throughout its life. This period was also defined by me jealousy of my friend's NES and SNESs. Wolfenstein 3D - The first violent game I remember. PC-13! The last game I remember my dad ever playing. Doom - It defined my taste in FPS going forward as I still very much prefer open, labyrinthine games over linear shooty shoot ones. Ocarina of Time - Yep. Unreal Tournament - One of the only online multiplayer games I was deep into. Runescape - From 2001-2004 I sunk ungodly amounts of time in Runescape. I was there at the very start. I remember "camping out" for the gate opening for the Kingdom of Asgarnia! I quit with the RS2 graphics change. Diablo II - Pretty standard PC gamer life-ruiner. Easily over 1000 hours over a decade of playing, rivaled only by Runescape in my life for what I've dumped the most time into. Metroid Prime - As a PC gamer, console FPSs have always been a joke to me. Metroid Prime was a game that decidedly wasn't just a bad version of a PC FPS. Morrowind - I'm one of those people. Fuck quest markers. FEAR - Graphics reached a "holy shit" point with FEAR. This also kind of happened with Battlefield 2, Crysis, and Bioshock, but I haven't been truly wowed by a game in the same way since those. In The Groove 2 - I played arcade rhythm games religiously for a long time and this was the best at the time. Metal Gear Solid 4 - My favorite modern game. After Uncharted 2 and MGS4, my interest in linear story games and open world busywork games steadily declined. Twilight Zone Pinball - I took a long break from video games because modern gaming got so boring and got almost exclusively into competitive pinball and pinball collecting for a few years. Ninja Gaiden III - The past 4-5 years I've been back in the vintage collecting scene. I'm waiting for modern gaming to grab me again and stop being what it is. I play lots of older games now, and have much more patience/appreciation for challenging games than when I was a kid.
  7. One handed control scheme, turn off animations, instant text speed, auto battles for easy battles. I don't like RPG battles if you can't tell.
  8. Definitely. Everyone should spend a few bucks on an Famicom copy of Super Mario Bros, the game that changed the world! NWC is just some contest.
  9. Yup, it might have some more stuff at the bottom. I copy pasted all the posts with pictures in it (at least what I could get from Google Cache).
  10. Lol whoops I didn't realize that Sega CD guide was already here. I linked to FFCD's new post in my thread.
  11. Maybe 10 bucks. Generic multicarts are super common and no one really collects them, they're mostly just a novelty. You can try looking for more info on Bootleg Games Wiki (they have lots of Super HIK carts) but for most generic x-in-1 carts you won't find a specific wiki article.
  12. You know I never really make my way over to the Club forums. I bet there's already good stuff I'm missing out on.
  13. Maybe Wolfenstein 3D - Doom - Quake. Maybe the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy. Maybe SM64 - Super Mario Sunshine - Super Mario Odyssey. Starcraft - Diablo II - Warcraft 3. I can't think of one threesome where everything is a 10/10 all time favorite. All those have a B-lister to me (Wolf3D, NG2, Sunshine, WC3) even if I do really like the games. Bam, I got it. Super Mario 64 - Metroid Prime - Ocarina of Time. The biggest Nintendo characters in 3D for the first time threesome.
  14. @supergamboy You had lots of great threads that only live on in Google Cache and possibly internet archive right now. Are you interested in posting them here? Internet Archive sometimes misses pictures so I'd like to save this stuff before Google Cache goes down. (Edit: If you save the thread specifically in Internet Archive it looks like they're good) Here are internet archive links to some other good threads: Sega Club Collecting Guide Konami Genesis Collecting Guide Acclaim Genesis Collecting Guide Canadian Genesis Collecting Guide Namco Genesis Collecting Guide Sega CD Collecting Guide (this guide)
  15. Not my guide, but SegaAge got taken down and this is basically the only thread I regularly visited there and it's not hosted on GoCollect. Copy/pasted selected posts: Backed up from: http://segaage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=42&threadid=176402 Edit: LOL I didn't realize @final fight cd was a member here, sorry dude. Here's a link to the latest thread: U.S. NTSC Sega CD Collector's Guide Version 2.0. Changes warranting a new guide:-Consistent updates: Yes, developments in the world of Sega CD collecting are pretty sparse, but new items are still being found. Shai'tan did a great job with the original thread, but a more active member needs to take the reins.-Documentation of more than just the games: Games and variants are cool. But so are strategy guides, console boxes, game inserts/contents, and accessories. Let's hear about any physical media associated with the Sega CD.-Replacing missing pictures: Most of the pictures from the original thread are gone. They will return. Hopefully. Maybe.-General overhaul: Not to say Shai'tan didn't have a nice looking thread, but this is likely going to look and be constructed slightly different from the original. So let's keep the discussion, albeit slow discussion, going. If you opened a sealed game, post what you found inside the box. If you find the elusive Bram Stoker's Dracula Version 2.0, post a picture of it. If you just want to say you love the Sega CD, let's hear about that love affair. Always a work in progress....GamesBelow are the standard, retail games. No variants. No console pack-ins. I haven't been able to find much about it - it appears Gracenote has it in their DB though (but FreeDB, musicbrainz, etc. do not). It has a different track count and track lengths from the CD-DA on the game disc. And here are some additional tip books and the Pitfall strategy guide (with Sega CD/32x specifc content) I have a Loadstar strategy guide on it's way I'll scan and post. I've also come across the Official Sega Genesis and Game Gear Game Strategies books (Corey Sandler, Jason Rich, etc.). I don't have any copies of those (yet), but will post if I find them. I've just started reading the Sega CD Sourcebook, but so far it's really interesting and provides a reasonable amount of information about how Sega was pushing the system at the time. ---- 7.) As opposed to the Sonic CD NFR which came with an appropriate sized manual: As did Ecco and 5-in-1 Just for fun another shot of the 3 Sewer Sharks together. All 3 came in a jewel case with a common manual as best as I can remember. Money shot of all three Compton's discs. I never owned the slip case for the blue text variant, but as best I can tell it was the same for all three. HOWEVER, the manual I had with the blue copy was different, so there's that to look for. I also know you said it's difficult to determine which versions came in which X'Eye box, but anecdotally: my red box came with Prize Fighter, Compton's Black text with a small yellow slip for a free update when the first rev was completed, and Top Hit Sampler while my blue box came with Prize Fighter, Compton's Red Text, and Top Hit Sampler. Are there actually two versions of this? The manual says one thing while the slipcase says another. The two pictures in the first post look like they're showing the same thing. --- I can't answer for Joe Montana because I never owned that particular console complete, but this is the 3rd Sewer Shark console I've owned and they've all had a generic CD jewel case. I do have a Joe Montana NFR somewhere around here and I'm pretty sure it's in the same jewel case, but I couldn't tell you if that's normal.
  16. SegaAge and PlaystationAge got taken down recently too... not that anyone really noticed.
  17. Ebay: NTSC M82 for $500 browsing newly listed Video Games in 2006. Just sitting there chillin' unsold. NintendoAge: No idea. I got a Cowboy Kid for $5 on DigitPress from a guy who was like "This is going to be rare one day!". Thanks dude! Wild: Maybe my TX-Sector pinball machine for $1500 right after it became really collectible and started selling for $2500-3000? Hard for old video game Goodwill finds to beat a $1500 discount.
  18. This sucks. I can't tell if this a joke because we're in a crazytown now, lol. Should I be buying any Wata errors I see for their collectibility as "graded collectible collectibles"? I've missed out on a few already!
  19. I am but I still think the prices are silly and there is some nonsensical CIB hype too (one listed for $4500 on Ebay, another sold for $1000). If this is "the version" because it's rare sealed to people, they can pay whatever multiplier they want because there are only so many, sure, but like many things this year no one cared until someone paid a dumb price for it and a bunch of people who had no idea it existed had their eyes pointed at a sold listing and saw dollar signs. And I know people like the Halo, and I'm a Nintendo fanboy, and don't play the $10,000 shrink wrap game, but I won't get over the fact that it's a sealed Xbox game that sold for multiple times what a TLOZ, Mario 3, Doom, ALTTP, Sonic, etc. can sell for. I will dehype this game all I can! And anyone who has a sealed copy, you don't have a Halo holy grail, the T-rated box is still rarer than your shrink wrap
  20. So did she get mad at you for not getting a new necklace or what? Just ask her what kind of necklace she wants so you don't have to guess her taste (or take the other suggestion and go shopping with her). My fiancee does this all the time when it comes to old jewelry. She doesn't want expensive things but she likes that her jewelry comes "from me" even though she just tells me what to buy whenever the old stuff becomes old.
  21. I just wanted to make a thread on this because I think the three $5000-9000 ones that sold this year were pretty bad buys and I saw it recently described as a "Modern day Stadium Events". It looks like people in Canada have finally realized misinformed Americans are paying ridiculous prices for this clearly-not-very-limited-to-Microsoft-employees variant. I happen to have 3 copies of this game just from collecting Xbox and I'm nearly positive all of them came from Canada (for <$10 a piece of course). They are selling on Ebay listed as NFR almost daily now. There are even 2 sealed ones on Ebay, what a grail. I'm not sure if the deep Xbox collector people know exactly why this is so common Canada, but just pointing out recent sales so we can stop perpetuating the myth that this is a kinda-mostly super r@re Bungie or Microsoft exclusive.
  22. This movie is another video game movie that will be forgotten in 2 years. SMB is a classic forever.
  23. If it hits like $25 maybe. It doesn't have Nintendo plastered on it, so I'm not dying to own it as a "shelf collectible". I'd rather knock out a real PCE game I want. You can choose from lots of good PCE games for hundred bucks.
  24. It's a shame his stuff gets ripped off and made into bootleg Famicom carts.
