Goodvibes | 158
With regards to the duck hunt above I have seen the 8539 cart twice from collectors with a matte sticker seal pre deluxe set that was basically from a time capsule. Although it confuses me as to why a matte sticker seal duck hunt I bought a few years ago came with an 8542 adapter cart. Any ideas? Is it perhaps that I have a copy that was sold separately as a standalone game and not one packed inside a pre deluxe? I bought a NES Test Market Deluxe Set recently and these were inside in amazing condition. The matte seals were cut but the contents looked like they had never been disturbed, Wata even graded the contents in the 9s which is unheard of for non-sealed. Curious how the carts graded with the pins looking like they had been used.

I don't think they grade pins, just exterior appearance and these most likely were never removed from the boxes.

It seems reasonable that there were a few production runs in the test market phase. It's only a three week difference, so I'd still believe it came from a test market set. Yeah one thing to keep in mind is they had to have 17 games ready for an unproven market on October 18, 1985 AND they were still pumping out games for other platforms...they had like 100 Famicom, and 40+ Game & Watch titles at the same time. They probably had very little down time as evident from the use of Famicom converters in US test market releases, and likely just used whatever time they had to produce chips in the early days. One part of Nintendo history that’s poorly documented is what happened the months right after October 1985. I bet that there wasn’t just one production run of the “first print” titles, especially considering that one of the highest known pre-Deluxe test market sets is around 350,000. It used to (maybe still does) belong to @Bearcat-Doug Thanks for @DefaultGenfor making me dig up that list.

I would say my chip was manufactured before yours but wasn't applied to the first batch of releases. It probably sat around unused until the newer boards arrived. Maybe it was closer to the bottom of the bin or something.

I wish I hadn't let that go now given that it still had the matching registration card. For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that the pack in games were no code hangtabs. They definitely weren't sticker seals. Edited January 23, 2021 by Bearcat-Doug

Goodvibes | 158
Anyone willing to give me a quick rundown on snes inserts? Looking mainly to confirm what I have for my recent smw pickup to make sure inserts are correct. Also since I am not a huge snes collector, did the print dates carry over to snes to confirm manuals and such? DM would be fine, figured a new thread would not attract the proper people needed to give a definitive answer.

I don't think it was created from sealed games, so it's probably not 100% accurate.
