Awesome, so that paints a very clear picture now.

Fun House & Red October were released at the same time, but Fun House is significantly rarer. They have identical posters, but one is coded as Red October exclusive, and the other is coded as a publisher generic despite only being (known to be) found in Fun House.

I suppose any late November / early December 1990 reprints of games released prior in Hi-Tech's library may also have it (if any). They would be as follows:

  1. Sesame Street 123
  2. Sesame Street ABC
  3. Chessmaster
  4. Win, Lose or Draw
  5. MTV Remote Control
  6. ORB 3D
  7. Sesame Street: Big Bird's Hide & Speak
  8. Jim Henson's Muppet Adventure: Chaos at the Carnival

Sesame Street 123, Sesame Street ABC, Chessmaster, and Win Lose or Draw *do* have Oval ® reprints. But I don't know the date codes on them, especially the first three since they seem to be pretty rare. Also, Win, Lose or Draw seems to have no Oval ® box, but an Oval ® cart.

STILL a lot to be discovered 🙂

I opened a sealed MTV Remote Control for the list, so that can be checked.

There's theoretically no limits to how many times they can reprint a game. Take Tecmo Bowl for example. Printed all the way up into 1995.

MTV Remote Control is a May 1990 release, so the first print should be printed some time in March, maybe late February.

However, ORB 3D, Big Bird's Hide & Speak, and Muppet Adventure are October/November releases. So they have a moderately high chance of also being reprinted sometime in December which would allow them to have the -1 Hi-tech poster.

Here's what I have for all Hi-Tech release dates.

1 1989 Sesame Street: 123 2
9 1989 Sesame Street: ABC 3
1 1990 Chessmaster 2
3 1990 Win, Lose or Draw 2
5 1990 Remote Control 3
10 1990 ORB 3-D 4
10 1990 Sesame Street: Big Bird's Hide & Speak 4
11 1990 Muppet Adventure: Chaos at the Carnival 5
1 1991 Fun House 5
1 1991 Hunt for Red October 3
11 1991 Sesame Street: ABC/123 7
12 1991 Barbie 4
12 1991 Tom & Jerry: The Ultimate Game of Cat and Mouse! 4
2 1992 Sesame Street: Countdown 5
2 1993 Rollerblade Racer 7
3 1993 Mickey's Safari in Letterland 6
3 1994 Mickey's Adventure in Numberland 8

†Rollerblade Racer, and Mickey's Safari in Letterland are third party manufactured titles. They should come with the [NO CODE] Hi-Tech poster and mail card.

That's what I was thinking. It would also suggest that the black box third production run started towards the end of the test market.

Bear with me on the revival but came across something today I wanted to share. This pre deluxe looks pretty original and the best I can tell from my phone the no code hangtabs have no sticker seals on them and indeed have shrink wrap. Also sn of console looks to be 26x,xxx ish.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/255168036003

Obviously can’t guarantee authenticity but it would further prove @Bearcat-Doug theory. This also has the large Rob manual from 1985 I believe as the ones with the code on the upper right corner of the cover in my experience are from 1986. To further gauge how many consoles were printed in that first year with 1985 paperwork. Thought it was pretty cool.

The serial number on my set was 367,809 with the matching warranty card and it had the same contents as this one, so it's possible that they could have been from a mid 1986 production run.

I’d like to start tracking which Gyromite/Duck Hunt variant comes in these Pre-Deluxe sets with serial numbers.

My theory was this:

Matte - 1 through 100,000

Gloss - 100,000 - 300,000

Cellophane - 300,000 - 400,000

BUT if that one is sub-300k then it seems like it may be more like this:

Matte - 1 - 100k

Gloss - 100k - 250k

Cellophane - 250k - 400k

More research needed. (Also, why is No-Code SMB so rare if there are that many cellophane pre-deluxe sets!!)

We need to start checking chip date codes on consoles too…

What code on the consoles? I have a 38,xxx console I can check but that’s the lowest I have.

Why do people post their games as mint when they look like they were opened with a screwdriver? Does anyone have any idea what mint means?

Otherwise this is an incredibly uncommon variant of those games, I've never seen a no code hangtab cellophane version of Duck Hunt and Gyromite before. I've heard people say these might be the least common variants of the black box titles and I think they would do quite well at auction. If they were mint.

Just realized that Canadian and European consoles contributed to the total count of as well by 1986 so my number theory is wholly wrong.

Gotta try to make an effort to map things out. I wonder how many console package variations there are, and whether or not we can figure out the “minimum batch size”.

No code belongs in Rollerblade Racer, and Mickey’s Safari in Letterland.

-2 belongs in way too much. late reprints for most of this stuff…my list needs work for Hi Tech. Such a boring library to work on.

Barbie, Sesame Street ABC & 123, Sesame Street: Countdown, Fun House, Hunt for Red October, Chessmaster, Tom & Jerry: The Ultimate Game of Cat and Mouse, Sesame Street: Big Bird's Hide & Speak, Muppet Adventure: Chaos at the Carnival, Jim Henson's

there’s also a -3 for Numberland.

Thanks a bunch for another great addition 🙂   Can you please double check the code on the manual: you have the Fun House code listed but I'm assuming it's supposed to be EM with a star...  (the pic it too blurry for me to tell)

Man, that is majorly awesome!

Small request: could you type out the codes for me?  I'm sure I could fake it if I have to, but I can't really see the codes in the pictures on most items, or at all on the box flaps...
