I had an odd day off work yesterday, not wanting to waste it at home I decided to take a few hours to cross town to hope to get lucky, and strangely I did.  I got stuck doing my wifes early morning around other stuff (12hrs.)

First stop, $10 got me that MPT Prima premiere guide which is a steal.  Heading a little south of that and over I tried a game exchange there, no dice, but it's in an area old guy I've known for 15 years has this toys/games(etc) shop and I checked in as it opened.

Jackpot and strangeness ensued.  I was hoping to find more Game Gear stuff, I did, down below you see the two.  But I see this bag and a double take and a long glare later I see Taiwanese gaming goodies here??  Remember last year I got a Watara Supervision, that's what those games on the bottom are, a 3rd copy of Crystball(Arkanoid clone) but the rest holy moley, all NES/GB copycats of sorts...they had no idea what it was.  I caught them up on it, said I had the handheld, they instantly lowered it from $35 to $15 if I'd take it, so I did. 😛  Carrier=Sokobon/Boxxle, Eagle Plan = Top Gun, Balloon Fight(that's obvious), John Adventure = Dr Mario, and the Final Conflict is like a way harder mix of BattleCity and the emplacements of like Jackal style titles.   Also I got that GBA manual there too along with that full collection of SF2 anime series discs.  The toy store cost me $45 for all that.

After needed a bite, saw a goodwill next to it, found the Little Boppers Ruxpin for $3 and the mini pound puppy for a dollar, both are from 1985 and very clean like new, but the motor is having an issue with the bear I may try and fix it or leave it.  Lastly another one of those stores, paid $10, it was out of the county towards my kids lesson, it's a 1936 consumer video recorder that seemingly still works and shoots silent 16fps movies and I liked the look so it went into my antique cabinet.

** Not shown, I got a Super 21in1 gamegear 90s multicart in the mail days ago, 7 legit GG games and the rest are all the Sega SMS/Mark 3 mycard games converted which is a lot of fun.

Nintendo Power No. 1 for $60. Pretty happy with that price, even in rough condition with the poster.

Mine was beat to hell and the cover on the front detached too as part of a lot of like 20 or so a couple years back which I re-attached.  I totally get it, no need to justify the price since it's still there and a survivor.  I'd get a full binder sized clear plastic sleeve and stuff it in there so it doesn't rub more or get a snag to finish breaking it down as I've done with it and all the other NPs I have.

That’s the plan. I’m going to stop by a local comic book shop this weekend to see what protectors they have. I only have 28 issues but it’s a fun niche thing to collect.

I'm currently taking a break from buying physical games, as I have pretty much run out of space in my game room. I'm thinking about turning another room in my house into a game room. So for the time being, I'm buying digital releases.

image.jpeg.6fa1c567b07a5153d4a5f7d68101c219.jpeg

Forgot this was released on Steam. I missed out on it when it was released for PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360. I'll download Episode II some other time, because I've got too many other Sonic games I need to play and get back to (Sonic Mania, Team Sonic Racing, Sonic Frontiers, etc.).

Last year I downloaded the Sega Ages release of Sonic the Hedgehog, which is notable for including the Mega Play Arcade version of the game as well as lots of extra modes and customization. Recently, I downloaded Sega Ages Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It was on sale. It has all of the features from the 3D version for 3DS, except for the 3D mode. It also has some added features not in the 3DS version, such as the Drop Dash from Sonic Mania.

When I got my physical copy of Sonic Frontiers in December, I got the shoes from Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and the Holiday Cheer Suit. But I forgot to get the Adventurer's Treasure Box DLC, which is mentioned in an insert included with the game. I entered the code recently and got it. I'm aware that it apparently doesn't work if you download it after beating the tutorial stage (the game warned me); I didn't complete the tutorial stage and really get into Sonic Frontiers until recently. I also downloaded the Sonic Frontiers Monster Hunter Collaboration Pack. Now I'm all caught up for the time being. Looking forward to the upcoming DLC that's been announced.

I downloaded Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium when it was released last year (literally right when it became available for purchase), and paid for Mega Man: The Power Battle.

image.jpeg.9068a377f282b553885c00bb325aa36e.jpeg

I recently paid for Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, which was also on sale and cost a mere $1.40.

As with the other games in Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium (including Power Battle), both the American and Japanese versions of Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters are included.

image.jpeg.8e5934380f0026c21b4d81cda4e53678.jpeg

Also bought some DLC for Pac-Man World Re-Pac (which I have a physical copy of).

image.jpeg.b549f6be193497acbcc281125b8aa866.jpeg

I downloaded the Switch Game Boy App the day it was released. Maybe some of you noticed these Super Mario Land 2 pics in the "Games You Have Beaten Recently" topic.

image.jpeg.ff49eeb4494b93cce21598fbfd446497.jpeg

And I downloaded (and beat) the Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe demo. Will be buying a physical copy of the full game in the near future.

I bought both episodes of Sonic 4 on the OUYA many years ago.  I knew within the first year of buying the console that the OUYA servers would eventually shut down as the console was pretty much a failure from the start (they officially closed in 2019).  However, I didn't realize until just recently, that even your purchases no longer work since all games require a purchase check that needs the online servers in order to work.  So even a game like Sonic 4 that didn't need online connectivity is currently unplayable (expect for the first two levels which were always available for free as a trial/demo.  I have several digital purchases on my OUYA that will never work again.  Even the emulators cannot bootup without the online servers.  I've read about work arounds, but I'm not sure that I even care.

Well it took me almost two years to finally find a copy of Mario no Photopi that was 1) complete and included the outer box and 2) wasn't a ridiculous price. I'm finally glad to have this one off the list. It should be rather smooth sailing from here to complete the N64 complete set, except maybe one or two games.

Also some more GBA pickups, a few PSP games and another GC game (7 to go for a full set!) added to the collection.

Well thank goodness for Steam then, because I was able to play all of the levels/acts in Splash Hill Zone, Casino Street Zone, Lost Labyrinth Zone, and Mad Gear Zone, including special stages and boss battles. I was even able to unlock and access E.G.G. Station Zone, the final zone in Episode I.

Yeah, it's stuff like this which is why I don't really care about modern gaming. Online stuff I get it, but even stuff like Sonic, that sucks.

Ouya is a pretty fringe piece of "modern" gaming.  Your Switch and PS5 purchases are safe for a long while.  And with the boutique labels, many of the normally digital games have physical releases made available as well.

Recently I got some help from another unlicensed Gameboy enthusiast to buy some carts from Indonesia. Sadly, many of the listing I was interested in were out of stock, however I was able to pick up a couple of carts. They came a tad rough condition, but I think I'll be able to freshen them up a bit.

Picture1.jpg.0113b6a67e6e97f79d02195a04efe674.jpg

These are games that were originally released by Sintax, but developed by BBD (there is actually a small chance that BBD did their own releases of these as well, but no copies of such a thing have surfaced to my knowledge). The publisher in this case is one that seemed prevalent in South East Asia. This publisher's name is unknown, however their boxes have the text "New Game Color Advance" on them, so they are often referred to as NGCA.

Picture2.thumb.jpg.273e9969f4d5f8894fa1b2835471d444.jpg

Picture3.thumb.jpg.054123f748a12e87dabf93415a42716a.jpg

NGCA released games both by Sintax and Vast Fame in English. As far as Taiwanese Gameboy companies go, Vast Fame has a reputation for making fun (though infringing) games, while Sintax is known for having a small handful of good and decent games and an absolutely gargantuan library of kinda bad ones. These ones are alright. The cart for Digimon Amethyst is actually a port of Super Mario Bros. It is not a hack of Super Mario Bros Deluxe though. I can tell because it has a glitch that is almost universal to games using the BBD engine, it drops jump inputs if you press the jump and left/right on the same frame. The other one is a more generic platformer. You may have noticed that on the back of these boards there are black stamps with ID codes. NGCA gave every game they released its own ID. I think that that makes them a little more fun to collect. Unfortunately NGCA carts are fragile, even for old unauthorized Gameboy carts. Also, they used early builds for most of their Vast Fame releases, so those are riddled with bugs that normally aren't present (though some VF games can be kinda buggy). All in all I'd say they are a publisher of interesting (sometimes even good) games, but not a great one.

The carts came in small zip-lock bags. I guess the store they were originally at had them hung on a rack.

Hey Bricky boi, congrats on the No Photopi, I know you've been looking for that for a while!

Out of interest, how much did that copy set you back, I've not been keeping up with the prices recently!

Set me back $440US but I’ve seen these go for over $500US+ in the past without the outer box.

I think that Baseball game is the only difficult one I have left. The rest I think I shouldn’t struggle too much with. I see Getter Love quite a bit, it’s just expensive haha.

Wow, that has shot up, damn!

Yeah, so Super Space Nighter 2 is a bit of a 'mare to get hold of, definitely one of the rarest games. I think I ended up paying like close to 200 USD for that one, but I can't really remember anymore!

There are a couple other games that are just as scarce, but not as pricey, which you may be able to score cheap(ish) if you're lucky... Depends what's left on your list, I guess.

Have you got Nintama Rantaro yet?

Yeah I can always find the cart for like $20 but never really see it CIB

Don’t have Nintama Rantaro yet but I see it online every now and then.
