I guess I just liked the homespun feel of the thing. It was being run by a guy who loves Atari. But now that it's being run by a company instead of a person, it lost that uniqueness, which was, in my opinion, a main reason of its existance. It rebelled Atari, and for Al to just do a 180 and embrace the company? That just seems kind of odd to me,

Well, it's still being run by a guy who loves Atari.  But now he's beholden to the man.  I expect AtariAge will ultimately become an advertising vehicle in the long run.  How long til they're shilling Atari brand products?  Wait...

It is very exciting to see Atari release the 2600+, a new 2600 you can feed actual cartridges, and without giving anything specific away, this is just the beginning of what we're going to see from Atari going forward.

I do want one of them 2600+, though. 🧐

  2. Always love a good Mega Man writeup.  It's no secret that MM2 is my top and although MM5 is in my bottom half of the NES saga, I would hesitate to say it's one of the "worst" of the series.  It's more like it's among the least best.  It def has some hits, Gravity Man's level is some of my favorites across the 6 titles.

I still love MM5 more than probably 85% of the entire NES library.  And it's better than any of the X entries which are still amazing games (X4 being my particular favorite of that series).

I'm probably due for a replay of 5.  That'll be my next playthrough on the Nintendo.

    Obligatory MM ranking: 2>3>1>6>5>4

  3. Great write up on the scene.  I often wonder about the beta testing corner.  I'm not on social media so my own avenues are pretty limited.  But it seemed like testing was more prevalent a few years back.

I'd love to see a centralized tester resource available for dev access.  And definitely understand the apprehension brewers have with just soliciting the fanbase.  I've seen a couple different betas where more than a few testers on the roster offered little feedback or were completely MIA.  Devs should be able to ask for a level of commitment as well as non-disclosure from a potential team.

Really, feedback should flow both ways.  With a centralized resource, developers could give feedback on individual contributions of team members.

  4. In depth fantastic read and great interviews.  Thanks, Deadeye.  Nebs 'n Debs is some of my favorites.

For my money, I'd have given it the top marks for the '16 compo.  Not to discount Twin Dragons.  It had a lot of polish and I can see how it won.  But Nebs is so damn fun to play.

Great write up on the mechanics in particular.  There's a bit more to the feedback system than I noticed.  It's very intuitive.
