  1. Yeah, it doesn't seem possible to beat the fourth loop without losing a couple lives. Even if you hit every fuel tank, it won't be enough. The fifth loop is even worse. There's not even enough fuel to get you to the end of the first section.
  2. Haha, I was curious where my levels were at so I checked. My characters seem pretty powerful. Highest level is 24 and they all have a lot of magic. I guess that's what happens when you get stuck in an RPG, but continue playing anyway.
  3. I don't think having SCPS always means it's an Asian version. spacepup mentioned that SCPS is usually followed by 45 in Asian versions and that Parappa doesn't have the 45. I'd assume that's just the regular Japanese release. I seem to have a few SCPS games that don't have any of the signs of being an Asian release.
  4. It has been a long, long time since I played Wizardry V, but I don't recall having to do anything crazy like that to beat it. I think I just did what bronzeshield recommended. Keep trying until you get a lucky matchup. I don't think it took me too long. I'm not sure what my levels were though. I did spend a lot of time playing before getting to the end, so my characters might have been unusually powerful by that time.
  5. Yeah, getting the hang of nudging is pretty important. I found that I could almost always save the ball from going down the middle or the right side with nudging. The left still gives me some trouble. My strategy was pretty similar to what the guy in the video 0xDEAFC0DE posted did. I didn't make the shots that consistently though.
  6. I'd probably rank BoF over BoFII. BoFII had a very slow start and dragged on too long. I really didn't care for either of them though. Too tedious and unremarkable. Maybe I liked the original better just because it was shorter? I'd rank them as some of the worst RPGs on the system that I've played (I never spent much time with or played some of the ones with poor reputations though). I do like the other games in the series (III, IV, and Dragon Quarter, never played VI). It seems many fans of the series didn't like it, but Dragon Quarter is easily my favorite and I consider it one of the best RPGs I've played on PS2.
  7. 99,999,999 This is one of my favorite Pinball games, so I thought I'd join in this week. This was easily my best game of Pin Bot ever. For the first time, I maxed out the score and looped the stages in the same game (I've accomplished these in separate games before, but never in the same game).
  8. I'm taking a look at some of my Asian versions and here are some of the differences I see: Different product IDs No barcode on the Asian ones The warning on the back is in English The other text on the back may all be in English Japanese Version says "USE IN JAPAN ONLY" while Asian version says "FOR HOME USE ONLY" A second manual is included written in Chinese and English
  9. Ah, yes, I'm pretty sure I got all the possible points from enemies as well. I can even get an "extra" gold in the first bonus stage. If you're quick enough, you can grab the last falling piece of gold from the Player 2 side after collecting the last piece on the player one side. This would make the total possible gold 96. I didn't go for it in the score I submitted, so that's why there's only 95 gold there.
  10. I played a bit more today and I'd guess it's slightly above 246,600. If I combined my best scores for every stage as if I did them in a single run, I believe that's what I would have gotten (I might be off by 50). That would be with all the possible gold and diamonds. The only way to improve it would be to finish the stages faster. There are a few stages that I think a better time might be possible, but I haven't been able to pull it off. Since each time unit remaining only gives 50 points, saving one or two time units in few stages won't increase the score dramatically.
  11. No, I didn't think that was allowed. I'll probably give that a try once the Action 53 vol. 4 comes out. I don't have a good 2 controller setup for my computer, so I'd rather wait to try it on the NES. I'm still playing though. I know I could get around 600 more points, but I doubt I'll be able to do it before the contest ends. I'm done. A higher score isn't happening tonight.
  12. Playing now. The Cowlitz Gamers' 2nd Adventure is one of my favorite homebrews, so it's nice to see some new levels.
  13. Another one came to me. Incredible Crisis for PlayStation.
  14. Off the top of my head: Wonder Boy in Monster Land Wonder Boy in Monster World Monster World IV Stray Sheep (Japan exclusive PS1 game) Thought of a couple more edit: Study Hall (NES Homebrew) Alex Kidd High Tech World
  15. No. After the second stage, there's a top-view dungeon stage that seems unfinished. There are no enemies or timer. There some pits you can fall in, but they're easy to jump over. There's lots of money to collect. There's also a store where you can buy stuff. The only interesting thing you can get is a chance to play a golf mini game, which you can score some extra points by playing. There's an elevator that takes you to a boss stage. After you beat the boss, you get sent to a glitchy room. The game might freeze there, but if you die without it freezing, you'll go to the Game Over screen. If you choose continue, you get sent to another dungeon stage. The boss of that dungeon is the same as the first one, just a different color. You then get sent to a glitchy stage where all you can do is go right. I kept going right until the timer ran out and there was nothing there.
  16. Wave Race isn't bad, though every time I play it, I feel like I'd be having more fun if I was playing the Nintendo 64 version instead. Vexx is a decent 3D platformer. It's cheaper on PS2, but I recall that version being considered inferior to the Gamecube and Xbox versions.
  17. These were the win conditions used for an older version of this thread: Blastris A & B - Finish one level on highest difficulty ... gameplay is endless otherwise Mole Patrol - Finish level 30 in Stage Game, and complete one round of Score Mode LazerBlaster - Finish level 30 in EACH of the three subgames
  18. I've been running weekly contests for the past 3 years during the NES contest's off-season. 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 were Sega Master System and 2019/2020 was Game Boy. I'd like to do that again this year. I'm not sure which system I'm going to do though. I had considered doing a N64 one before and planned out which games would be included, but my N64 collection was (and still is) pretty small, so there were some popular games that would probably work well that were missing. I thought it would be better if someone more experienced with the system ran it. I think Vectrex or Virtual Boy could be fun, but since they're not very popular systems, I wouldn't expect much participation. Right now I'm leaning towards doing Game Boy again, but adding GBC and/or GBA games into the mix. I've also considered trying to run some other types of contests. I had an idea for an "identify the game" game a while back in which I would post screenshots of games (and possibly sound clips and character quotes) and participants would try to identify them. I wound up abandoning the idea due to the rules I wrote becoming overly complicated. Maybe it would work better as something more casual? Like just having a thread where anyone can post a screenshot and anyone could post a guess. I'm not sure how many Smash Bros. players are around here, but I think that would be a pretty good game for a tournament. I don't have the Switch version yet, so something like that would have do be done by someone else (I could do a Wii U one though, if there's sufficient interest).
  19. Some DS games I like: The World Ends With You has one of my favorite RPG battle systems of all time. Both WarioWare games are pretty good. Touched has better minigames, while DIY allows you to make your own minigames. Star Fox Command really surprised me. I wasn't expecting to like it because of the touch controls, but I think they work really well. Elite Beat Agents and the Osu Tatakae Oendan games are among my favorite rhythm games. Chronos Twins is my vote for most underappreciated DS game. It's an action/platformer where you control two characters at the same time. Only Europe got a physical release, but it eventually became a DSi downloadable in the US. Picross 3D also seems underappreciated to me. I had more fun with it than any of the regular Picross games.
  20. Sure did. I don't think I got all the points I could have from them though (and I probably didn't get the best possible health bonus every time either), so a higher score should be possible. Congrats on the win.
