  3. Ah, so that's what you were using. I didn't think of that possibility. Don't worry about the name in the picture then. Since you (or anyone else playing like that) would have similar difficulties getting a picture as someone playing on a real Virtual Boy, I'll waive the name in picture requirement for those cases.
  4. That's it for week one! Congratulations to @koifish for taking first place. Please remember to include in your picture a piece of paper with your user name on it in the future if you are not using original hardware. The week two thread can be found here:

If you are using an emulator that is not running on a VR headset, take a picture of your score with your Video Game Sage user name written or typed on a piece of paper, which must be present in the picture. Your Video Game Sage user name MUST be in the picture or the score will be invalid. If you are playing on a Virtual Boy console or VR headset, you do not need to have your user name on a piece of paper. Depending on the game, you may have to include your user name (or a portion of it) on a name entry screen. - Previously obtained scores are not acceptable as submissions. You must play the game during the week it has been selected. - When posting a new score, please begin your post by typing out your score. Larger font (18pt) is preferred. - If you are posting an updated score, please create a new post with your new score and delete the picture from your previous post with the old score. You may also edit your initial post with the new photo and score. - It is highly encouraged to play with original software on original hardware, if possible. - This is a contest of skill, so using any sort of device or feature that would give you an advantage over another player is prohibited. Examples include, but not limited to, cheat devices, save states, altered ROMs, remapped controllers, and turbo functions. The use of glitches to alter your score is also not allowed. Any other glitches will be examined on a case-by-case basis to determine whether or not they will be permitted. Any glitches discovered by participants must be reported and approved for use before submitting a score using them. -Although not required, I would encourage participants not to practice a game in advance. - Points will be awarded each week as follows: 1st – 10 points 2nd – 9 points 3rd – 8 points 4th – 7 points 5th – 6 points 6th – 5 points 7th – 4 points 8th and lower – 3 points LEADERBOARD: 1. 11. I liked the relaxed pace of having only one game a month and two weeks to play it. It made it easier to keep up for the a full year. Although, I did have a tendency to wait until the end anyway, so I can see JamesRobot's point about the two weeks not being necessary. As long as it's still only one game a month, it probably wouldn't make much of a difference. Although it didn't matter in the end, I liked how winning earlier games gave a small boost for the final game. I think you have to be extra careful choosing a final game when you do that though. NNNNNN was a great choice since it's the kind of game where you have to just keep going until you can't survive anymore and it's difficult enough that someone being able to play it endlessly is unlikely. I think the final round would be less exciting if a game where a maximum possible score is used (like Scramble). A game like that could make it impossible for anyone who doesn't have a score/time boost to win. Like JamesRobot, I wasn't crazy about the immunity game. If you want to keep it, maybe there should be a downside to it? You could make it so that if you beat the immunity game, you won't be eligible for the time/score boost.
  12. M.U.L.E. is a great game, though it's understandable that watching a gameplay video could give someone a bad first impression. It may not look pretty and would probably be hard to follow if you don't already know how to play, but if you like simulation games, it definitely worth giving a try.
  13. Three times? Once was enough for me. It is one of my least favorite pinball games. The glitch ruins the main table (not that it's a great to begin with) since it can be unintentionally activated, making it a pain to get a high score legitimately. The two-player modes might be interesting to try with another person, but playing against the computer just isn't fun. 9-Ball is easily the worst part of the game. The ball just bounces around so slowly.
  14. Thanks for running this! I didn't intend to stick around the whole year, but I'm glad I did. It was a good time. Thanks. How many tries did you give NNNNNN? I don't think I broke 10 seconds in my first couple dozen attempts and it took me a while to be able to break 20 seconds regularly. Even after I started to get the hang of it, I'd still have attempts that would last less than 5 seconds.
  15. Hmm, only three people showing interest. That's not a lot. Although, my post probably would have been more visible if I made a new thread instead of posting here. Oh well, I think I'll go for it anyway. It can't go worse than my second Sega Master System competition. At least, I don't think it can. N64 was kinda my backup plan. As I've mentioned before, my N64 collection isn't that big, so I might not be the best person to run it, but I think I wound up putting together a pretty good lineup of games. Only one of the ten is not that well known and only one is a game I don't own. I like to only include games I own so I could test out different rule sets and check for any issues the rule sets may have. It's a popular enough game that I think I would be able to find any information I need on it online though. Maybe if no one else runs one, I could give it a go at a later date. I'm under the impression that VB emulation is decent nowadays, but I'm not certain. While I like to see people using original hardware/software in these contests, I realize that requiring it would kill participation.
  16. It's getting closer to the time of the year I'd like to start this and now I'm leaning towards making it a Virtual Boy contest. I looked over some potential games and, despite the small library, a 10 week competition seems doable. Any interest in this?
  17. Sorry for not bringing this to your attention sooner. I only started playing tonight.
  18. 1.40.06 Added both pictures to show you what I mean. My best total lap time is really 1.39.46.
  19. Did anyone else notice that the total time doesn't always add up correctly? @Deadeye Are we going by what the "TOTAL TIME" says or what the lap times add up to?
  20. Unless there's something I'm missing, I don't think so either. Since our scores are so close, I'm guessing we had the same strategy, I just missed a few more shots. Any chance you kept track of what you missed and can estimate the maximum possible score?
