  1. 3-D World Runner Amagon Bubble Bobble, I guess. Hard to choose. Castlevania Dragon Warrior II Excitebike, I guess. Only "E" I've played, but I don't think I've spent more than 10 minutes with it. Final Fantasy Guardian Legend, The Hogan's Alley Immortal, The, I guess. I don't think it's all that great, but I don't see any better choices. Jaws Kirby's Adventure Legend of Zelda, The Magician, I guess. Several good choices here. Hard to decide. Nightmare on Elm Street, A Orb-3D, I guess. Not crazy about it. I should give Operation Wolf a try. Pin Bot QIX, even though I've never played it on NES (I like it on Game Boy). Not choosing Q*Bert. RC Pro Am Super Mario Bros Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ultima IV, I guess. Never played it, but it looks like fun and I'm not choosing Urban Champion. Vice: Project Doom Werewolf, I guess. I could easily pick a different one. Xexyz Yoshi Zelda II: Adventures of Link
  2. I played one loop of the fly swatter game in Mario Paint (which is three stages, not four).
  3. For weightlifting, there's a lack of visual cues, so you really just need to get a feel for it. All you're doing for the snatch is holding down, then up, then down, then up, then down (waiting a moment before switching directions). Figuring out how long that moment is is what you need to get a feel for. The clean and jerk is the same thing but with an extra up and down. Heavier weights just make it so there's a shorter moment when it's okay to switch directions.
  4. You know what's really hard? Trying to get a high score in that game without accidentally triggering that glitch. Back when I was trying to beat this game for an older one of these threads, I wanted to see how high I could get without the glitch and I had to restart three or four times because the ball kept getting stuck there.
  5. It's not that hard and it's very short. It takes about 10 minutes to beat all the records if you know what you're doing. I'd recommend reading the manual before you start though. I think it would be pretty tough to figure out exactly how to play some of the games on your own.
  6. Two months later and it's done! Outside of the conveyer belt section with the switches in the last level, I enjoyed it quite bit. Definitely better than the other 3 SNES action RPGs I played a few months ago. I really liked how fast your character is. Made backtracking very tolerable. I somehow managed to miss a bunch of items mentioned in the manual. The dragon scale boots wold have been nice. I also missed the magic top, which apparently makes you go even faster! Now to track down the original Runes of Virtue.
  7. It has always been one of the tougher to find US releases. I never heard a claim that it was PAL only though. The European release was called Heavyweight Champ.
  8. I'd go with Jade Cocoon or Vagrant Story, but only because I haven't played them since they came out. If you're going to go with a SRPG, I'd recommend Brigandine over Final Fantasy Tactics.
  9. Updated! Edit: After I got the score of 407, I decided to keep trying until time was up. I got the 473 with 6 minutes to spare! Looks like I got the picture up just in time.
  10. Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is done. Considering the original is my favorite Sega Master System game, it's surprising that it took me this long to get around to playing the remake. They did a really good job with it. I think the new artwork is great, so the gallery was a nice bonus. Makes me wish that limited run LE came with an art book instead of the cards, poster, and soundtrack.
  11. Ah, Star Fox Zero. Another game I'd like to see a port without motion controls. I'd add Skyward Sword to the list as well. As for Mario Galaxy, if they replaced the pointer controls with just tilting the controller, it wouldn't be so bad. I might actually prefer something like that to using the analog to move the pointer. I'd still want the spin move mapped to a button though.
  12. I think Mario 64 holds up pretty well, so I don't really see the need for an updated version. The motion controls in Mario Galaxy made it really hard for me to enjoy, so I'd love to see a port without motion controls (or with them being optional).
  13. I never played Black Gate and it has been many years since I tried Runes of Virtue II (which I likely played for less than a half hour). I didn't mean to imply that I've beaten every SNES action RPG. By unbeaten SNES action RPGs, I just meant unbeaten of the ones I currently own, which also include: Secret of Mana - Easily my favorite. I've played it through multiple time never seem to get tired of it. I admit that some of the flaws have become more noticeable in recent play throughs, but the never stopped me from enjoying it. Secret of Evermore - It has been a long time since I've played this one, but I recall enjoying it. The only thing I remember not liking about it was the resource gathering. I've really gotten into the Monster Hunter games since then though, so maybe it wouldn't bother me as much if I were to replay it now (something I've been meaning to do). The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past - I know some don't consider this an action RPG, but since the gameplay is so similar to every other game on this list, I'm including it. Like Secret of Mana, I've played this one multiple times. I don't find myself enjoying it as much as I used to, but I'd still rank it as one of the best SNES games. Illusion of Gaia - Another one I liked and played multiple times. Last time I played, I was actually going back and forth between playing the US and Japanese versions at the same time to see the differences. Their weren't many, but they were neat to see when they popped up. Soulblazer - Like Secret of Evermore, it has been a while since I played this one. I recall thinking it was decent, but never had the desire to play it again. Hmm, now I kinda want to try Runes of Virtue II again. I'll see if I can get ahold of a copy. Just curious, is there a reason you asked about the two Ultima games specifically?
  14. The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang is done. After beating Lagoon, I thought I'd finish off the last of my unbeaten SNES action RPGs. This one was a huge disappointment. I had heard good things and it looked pretty good, but the whole thing was just tedious. While it's a short game, some of the enemies take a ridiculous number of hits to defeat and you barely do any damage to the bosses unless you level up. I really wanted to like it, but it's gotta be my least favorite action RPG on the system. It seems they upped the defense for all the enemies in the US version, so maybe the Japanese version would be more enjoyable.
  15. Lagoon is done. I was pretty disappointed with Brain Lord and still in the mood for an action RPG, so I decided to give this one a go. My first impressions were not good. The range of your sword seemed way too short, the first dungeon was boring, and the music was a bit irritating. There was also an annoying escort mission in the first dungeon. It wasn't hard, the guy you escorted just walked very slow. For some reason, I started to like it more the more I played. The sword range never increased, the dungeons never got more interesting, and the music didn't improve. I think what made me appreciate it more was the challenge of having to time your sword attacks more carefully than you would normally have to in a similar game. The bosses were tough, but not too tough, making beating them pretty satisfying. Overall, I had more fun with this one than Brain Lord.
  16. Yeah, I figured that even a perfect game (collect all the coins, defeat all the enemies, complete the stages quickly, and no deaths) wouldn't score near what Zi did, so burning lives would be the only way.
  17. 99,990 So, you can get a lot of extra points burning through lives. I would have got an even higher score, but it maxes out at 99,990.
  18. I wasn't planning on participating this week, but I gave this a try yesterday and it's pretty fun! I wound up beating it today, but my score is pretty far from Zi's. I'll give it a few more tries though. I'll have to figure out the best stages to burn through lives to beat that score.
  19. I played through Brain Lord for the first time. Puzzles were kind of boring and there was some irritating level design. Lots of slowdown too. It played well enough though, so I wouldn't consider it a bad game, but there are much better similar games on the system.
  20. Try the Sega Master System version. It looks, sounds, and plays better than the NES one. It has more items, cars, and a less frustrating staircase level.
  21. I played the game all the way through and felt the same way. It had potential, but the poor camera and unclear graphics made it a disappointment. It's the kind of game that I didn't think was all that great, but would have wanted a sequel anyway, hopefully without the issues of the original.
