  1. So I'm not here just talking about Sega Master System, I went ahead and beat Pokemon Puzzle League.
  2. This discussion got me thinking about it again and now I kinda want to try doing Sega Master System with a shorter time limit. Maybe make the challenge be to beat the library in one season and call it something like "The Spring Sega Challenge". Maybe a shorter time limit would motivate potential participants to not put off joining in? I don't know. Just trying to think of a different way to do it. I already have a partial list of completion requirements and even a point system set up. It's not perfect, but I have less popular, longer, or more difficult games worth more. It's based on my personal experiences though, so some games I'm just unfamiliar with automatically got higher point values. I'll probably beat a few this year. Not working on anything at the moment though. Sorry, I guess I'm starting to derail the topic here.
  3. I've been tempted to start up a Sega Master System one several times, but worried it would just turn into the "How Many Sega Master System Games Can Red Beat?" thread. Virtual Boy was attempted over at that other website. Even with only 14 games it was never completed.
  4. That's it for week four! Congratulations to @Splain for taking first place. The week five thread can be found here:

  6. Do I only need to do one loop for Low G Man? If so, it is done. Yes, I've been using the heli. I tried with the Jeep a few times, but didn't get very far. I could see how the stages might be easier with it since it seems some of the enemies will leave the jeep alone. The bosses seem harder though. I had some trouble even hitting the first boss. I played a couple more times today but didn't do any better. I'll try again tomorrow. Ah, two other people who had the same problem. Good, it's not just me. I'm still losing a few lives in the second to last stage. I'm hoping that if I can no death it until the last stage, all the extra lives I'll have accumulated will get me through it. So far I've only reached the final boss once with one life left. It ended so fast that I can't say I'll even know what to do next time I get there!
  7. Well, my beat a new NES game everyday for as long as I can attempt ended yesterday. I started playing Silk Worm, but was having trouble with the last stage. I decided to put it aside and try an easier looking game, Rollergames. It was harder than I was expecting (due to the horrendous platforming) and I was unable to beat it before the end of the day. I finished it up this morning though, so Rollergames is done. I'll give Silk Worm another try later today.
  8. Pretty neat that you guys are getting into this one so much. Can't say it's one of my favorites, but it's certainly not as bad as some make it out to be. Nice Score! Higher than all the other scores for this mode/difficulty over at Planet Virtual Boy: https://www.virtual-boy.com/games/3d-tetris/highscores/
  9. Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Trouble in Wackyland is done.
  10. While I like when games have these kind of animations, I do find them less appealing as I get further into the game since they slow things down and usually don't change much. I tend to keep animations on when I start a game, but turn them off before the end. For Dark Wizard though, I'll probably shut them off right away.
  11. Yeah, I feel like I'm going to have that kind of problem. Even though a play through of games like Double Dragon or Marble Madness shouldn't take very long, since I wasn't very familiar with either of them, it took a bunch of retries to beat them. I'm not even sure what today's game will be for me. The ones I'm more interested in giving a go right now I may not be able to beat in a short period of time. I'm a bit surprised Demon Sword is worth so many points now. I'm pretty sure it was one of the games I would play through in the early days of January when I joined in on the beating as many games as I can as fast as I can at the start of the year thing.
  12. I think it was a combination of the long load times and that I likely wasn't in the mood to play a strategy RPG when I got it that turned me away. I'll be sure to turn off the battle animations next time I give it a go. Rebelstar Tactical Command is game I've been mildly interested in since it came out, but there's always been others of these kinds of games that seemed more appealing. I think I'm just not crazy about the futuristic/space setting.
  13. Have you ever played Atlantis No Nazo for Famicom? I feel like you'd get a kick out of that game. I started to do that, but wound up shifting my focus to trying to beat one NES game per day that I haven't beaten before. Did Marble Madness yesterday and Operation Wolf today, but they were already beaten for this thread. I still have some more to try, so I may not be done with this thread yet.
  14. That's it for week three! Congratulations to @ZeldaFan042 for taking first place. The week four thread can be found here:
  15. Double Dragon is done. My first time beating it too!
  16. Hello and welcome to the fourth round of the Virtual Boy Weekly Contest! This week's game is 3-D Tetris. It's like regular Tetris, but in 3-D! The transition from 2-D to 3-D always goes smoothly, right? RIGHT? Just ask Bubsy and Earthworm Jim. They'll tell you. Rules: - Play 3-D Tetris mode, Type A - Play on hard difficulty starting at level 1 - Play until Game Over - Highest score wins - You have until 11:00 PM EST on Sunday, January 10, 2021 to submit your score. For general contest rules, click here: https://www.videogamesage.com/topic/5999-virtual-boy-weekly-contest-leaderboard-rules-20202021/ Good luck and have fun! SCOREBOARD: 1. 576,000 (Splain) 2. 99,000 (koifish) 3. 89,000 (ZeldaFan042) 4. 3,000 (Proveaux)
  17. I've tried Dark Wizard, but couldn't really get into it. Maybe someday I'll give it another go. I've only played the PS1 version of Master of Monsters and consider it one of my least favorite in the genre. I've heard from others that the Genesis version is better too. It's not at the top of my list, but it's something I'd pick up if I see it cheap enough. I've played both Nectaris and Military Madness and would agree that they're both great games.
  18. Already done. It took a bunch of tries though. I kinda wish there were a few more challenging stages. The main game was a bit too easy and a harder second quest would have worked well. It didn't seem like I had to take advantage of the main weapon's abilities very much until that stage. I think there was potential to do more with it.
  19. Just played through Rockin' Kats for the first time ever. Not a bad little platformer. Kinda easy until the post credits stage. Haven't done that yet. I'm going to give it another go a bit later. Do I need to beat that too for it to count? Edit: Beat the post credits stage.
  20. Thanks for your thoughts. I really enjoyed the original so I was curious why another fan of it didn't like the new one. Next time I'm in a strategy RPG mood I may just replay the original instead...or finally give the Grand Edition I've had lying around for years a try (have you ever played that one?).
  21. Even though it was in the common tier, there were so many games in that tier that the chances of getting it were really low (looks like it would be a bit under 2%, which isn't much different than getting one of the uncommon titles).
  22. My most wanted games from the blowout sale all got sold out before I could finish checkout. I wound up getting a few I was kinda interested in, so it wasn't a total loss. There were some things in the blind boxes I wanted, but there were also so many that I didn't want I decided to pass. What did they change that made it so bad? It has been a long time since I played the original, but when I played the demo of the new one, it seemed the gameplay was pretty much identical. The new characters didn't seem as interesting though and I prefer the original's graphics, so the demo just made me want to replay that one.
  23. Indivisible for Nintendo Switch...which I pre-ordered in November 2019.
