  1. I'm only about 4 hours in so far but enjoying it a lot. Very charming game for sure. Definitely like it more than the 3DS one.
  2. When I started back in 2008 I was just looking for fun games to play on older consoles. I was less interested in getting a complete set of anything and more interested in grabbing as many notable/fun/interesting titles as I could so I could play them on the original hardware. It was much cheaper then and much more attainable, but that's not the case now. Now that I have everdrives I've kind of refined my collecting to modern systems that don't have everdrives, like the Switch and 3DS (although the 3DS does now I think). Switch is a really fun system to collect for. Definitely not going for a full set, but there are a lot of great and interesting games on it. I have most of the titles I want for 3DS/Wii U already. I've also started focusing on series based collections instead. I'm currently going for a CIB Zelda collection (including all the different variations), as well as Star Wars which is just a massive library.
  3. I really need to get around to playing Echoes at some point. I loved Awakening and thought Fates and Three Houses were good, but I was so burned out from doing all the paths in Fates that I never got around to actually playing Echoes.
  4. I had been looking for one for years and just happened to come across it randomly one day at my local game store maybe 2 years back. Picked it up instantly because I never had seen one in the ~10 years I had been collecting. $40 is a steal, I think mine was $80 with two controllers and Keith Courage. I bought the everdrive and an AV mod and everything and I haven't even given it a solid chance. I need to get around to experiencing the library.
  5. Beat Castlevania on the NES for the first time today. It wasn't that hard overall, but I have to admit the first form of Dracula is probably where I spent a third of my time with the game. Second hardest part for me was Level 5 with the Medusa heads and the iron knights in the long hallway, but once I figured out to take the Holy Water from the beginning of the level to there it got a lot easier. I saw a lot of guides saying to not use holy water for the first form of Dracula but it actually helps quite a bit. Throwing it at the fireballs seems to drop the double/triple shot semi-frequently (and also hearts) which makes the second phase a breeze. I don't think I got a single double shot from when I was just hitting them with my whip. I also found it made it way easier to dodge the fire balls. Once I started doing that strat I prob beat it in two or three tries.
  6. Gamecube. One of my favorite systems ever with a lot of great games, but I prefer cart collecting over discs and the cost of Gamecube games has increased quite a bit.
  7. Honestly I'm surprised the PS4 is that high in sales. I mean I have one and I like the library a lot, but it never seemed like an "essential" system. PS2 was a DVD player and Gameboy/Wii was a cultural phenomenon... but PS4 just felt like another game console to me. Maybe just because the XBone and Wii U were very unpopular that more people picked that one up? I mean everyone I know has/had a Wii, even people that aren't gamers... how did PS4 surpass that in sales? I think Switch could hit 100 million by the end of its life. Solid library, unique concept, popular in Japan and the west, and I'm sure we'll be getting some revisions that will result in multiple Switch purchases for some consumers. I don't think it will beat PS2 though, just because so many people bought it because it was cheaper than a lot of DVD players for awhile.
  8. Queen really has an incredible discography. My personal favorite is Queen II, March of the Black Queen definitely being one of my favorite songs ever! Glad to see a mention for Scandal too, that was always one of my favorite later-era Queen tracks. And The Show Must Go On (and Who Wants To Live Forever) is one of the first songs I can remember moving me to tears. Yeah, it's safe to say that I really, really like Queen. I've been going through Talking Heads' discography lately. First two albums were great, started listening to Fear of Music this week.
  9. I just had a job interview this morning for an IT Support position and they offered me the job on the spot. I've been in a lot of customer service type jobs the past 10 years but decided I wanted to get into IT earlier this year. It's just an entry level job but I've been getting serious this year and studying for IT certs so I'm really excited to begin and work my way up!
  10. I tend to have one or two RPGs in the rotation per year with a couple months buffer between them. I usually schedule my game playthroughs around new games coming out. As an example, Luigi's Mansion came out today, and I finished Link's Awakening Switch and Fire Emblem last weekend, so I picked a shorter game (Castlevania) to play this week. I like to play a variety of different types of games, but like others here time is definitely the limiting factor. I tend to play 2 games at a time, and they're almost always different genres, with one often being a little more casual and one being a game where I really need to focus.
  11. I had two last year within a month of each other... a close friend's mom and my grandmother. My first funeral was my grandfather's on my 9th birthday, so that was an interesting birthday... I've never had to do a eulogy, and I don't think I would be able to do it.
  12. NES - Parents' bedroom, hooked up to their TV. Lots of great memories sitting on the floor in front of it or on the edge of my parents' bed with the box of games and going through the Game Genie codebook with my sister Genesis - Hooked up to the little TV in the kitchen for a couple years after we first got it, eventually moved to my bedroom when I was a little older N64 and on - my bedroom Now that I own my house my older systems are in a dedicated gameroom with my modern systems in my living room
  13. Most (all?) of the people I see posting over there are already here, but I know some people were pretty adamant about not leaving NA so I'm curious to see what their take is. NA was usually busier in the mornings/afternoons so I'm betting there is still a good chunk of people that won't see this mess until tomorrow. Also are you planning on reuploading your stores that don't exist thread over here? Definitely one of my favorite threads from NA, I have a local copy saved just in case you need it.
  14. Yikes. New site looks horrible. I'm curious to see if this changes the opinions of those that refused to leave NA earlier. I just can't see many former members being happy AT ALL with what the forum is now.
  15. Full Throttle. I know they were working on sequels and they honestly probably would have sucked but I wish they had gotten released anyway. Always loved the original game.
  16. I started playing the original Castlevania this weekend. Obviously I've played the game before but this is the first time I've seriously tackled it with the goal of beating it instead of just picking it up until I get a game over. I'm on Level 5 right now and keep getting my ass handed to me in the last room with a bunch of iron knights and the medusa heads flying at you. Haven't even gotten to Grim Reaper yet which I know is supposed to be the hardest boss in the game. I left my NES on the past few days so I don't have to replay the first 4 levels again. Any advice?
  17. As others have said, they have to order/produces games by the thousand. Since it's an open preorder (for switch games at least, I know PS4 games usually have hard limits), if they sell 9,001 copies of the game then they need to order 10,000 copies (plus and/or including whatever percentage they order for replacements in case of damaged/lost packages). I imagine they hold on to the extra copies for replacements for a set period of time, and keep a couple for promo stuff like contests, Black Friday sales and giveaways... but that still leaves a lot of extra copies that need to go somewhere. I don't see an issue with them selling them to game stores.
  18. This is an insane pickup, congrats! Definitely an iconic piece, and really cool to see the original!
  19. This. I don't think there is anything malicious going on here. The difference is the exact amount of CEs that were manufactured (3000). They don't really stand to gain anything by releasing one set of numbers and then changing it later, especially since they are already long sold out by then. If they wanted to be dishonest, they could easily just leave the incorrect numbers up. No one is gonna really be able to track down all 11k copies anyway. Pretty sure this was just an honest mistake where they only included the standard editions in the original and forgot to include CEs.
  20. What's weird to me is Limited Run Games did reproductions of a bunch of Star Wars games this year and they were much cheaper than these and included more stuff. You could buy the actual carts on the action figure cardbacks from each games' era for $40, or get the big deluxe boxset which included a bunch of extra merch like posters, coins, pins and art cards for $85. Here you get a basic box and manual and a poster(?) and it's even more expensive than the boxset for a STAR WARS game. I'm sure they make less profit off it compared to the Mega Man one, but still seems very overpriced for what it is. At $45-50 each it's at least a little bit tempting to pick one up because I love both games and the packaging, but at $100 each it's the easiest pass I've had all year (for what it's worth, I'm a chump and huge SW fan so I picked up all the LRG Star Wars titles) With all that said I find it very interesting that Disney is working with these smaller companies on reproductions of classic games. They certainly have the resources and capital to do it themselves. They don't seem to have too much interest in handling video games internally though since they also have a license with EA for new Star Wars games.
  21. Good point, I never really thought about that before. According to wikipedia, it looks like you can go up to Round 99, and if you beat that you get Round 0 which is a kill screen. So if you get that far I'd say that probably counts as "beating it". Would be interesting to see how quickly the ducks fly in round 99. I was under the impression Gun.Smoke does have an actual in-game ending on the NES version, but I've never even gotten close so I don't really know for sure.
  22. Interesting question. I'd have to say Sonic 2. I've beaten the game using level select codes but never beat it all in one go, so it doesn't really count in my book. Another one is Gun.Smoke. I never even got beyond the 2nd stage until 2 years ago lol. There aren't too many modern titles for me. As I said in another thread I tend to beat most games I start these days. I think the most "modern" one is Rogue Squadron 2 for Gamecube, but that is definitely on my shortlist to go back and beat soon.
  23. I only played the sequel, but in all my hours playing it as a kid I probably got about 5% of the way through the game. I'm still not entirely sure what you are even supposed to do in the game lol. I just remember thinking it was cool to play as a dolphin.
  24. I've imported a few Switch games so far (Human Fall Flat, Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime, EU versions of Link's Awakening and Smash Bros), I think the appeal for importing for this system is that it's region free so it's a lot easier to convince myself to pick them up. If I bought a European Wii U game I couldn't play it on my system without modding it, so I'd have to grab a European Wii U just to utilize it too. And like you said, Europe has gotten a lot of cool exclusive extras this gen. I had Luigi's Mansion preordered from Germany, but I ended up cancelling it just because I'm trying to save money. That steelbook looks awesome though!
  25. I haven't played any of these, although I do own Tingle's Rupeeland. I'll have to check some of these out. Is the Civ game just a kind of simplified version of the main series titles?
