  1. In the NES/SNES days I played mostly well-known games, as that was all I had access to. The closest I ever got to playing obscure games as a kid wasn't before the 64 era. But that's only if games like Buck Bumble and Vigilante 8 counts.
  2. Graphics yes, sailing no. The sailing, constant wind manipulation, and lack of interesting islands are big drawbacks.
  3. I have 2 Hori Minis and 2 Brawler64 controllers. The Horis are awful ergonomically. Way too small to be comfortable. It even makes precise joystick movements a chore. I never understood the hype the Hori Minis got. The Brawler64 controllers are by far the best.
  4. And inside Hyperkin's products you'll find total, utter crap. To be fair though, they're horrible emulation boxes that can't even accurately emulate the games. Good take: https://www.retrorgb.com/hyperkin-raises-middle-finger-at-retro-gamers.html
  5. Like Tanooki says, it's very plausible that a new Switch Pro is coming. They already did this with the DS (DSi) and 3DS (New 3DS). They didn't with the Game Boy Color though. There are no upgraded versions of that system, just different colorways/designs. However, it won't really mean much if those systems are anything to go by. Hardly any games ever really took advantage of the small boost in CPU, but for a few exceptions. How many awesome DSi/New 3DS exclusives are there? Not a lot. It's more than likely that a Switch Pro would be something to tide people over and push out the doors before Nintendo makes their next generational leap. Making games incompatible with the base level Switch with its big install base would be software sales suicide for most developers, including Nintendo. So seeing a drastic leap in game quality because of the Switch Pro is very unlikely. So don't expect anyone to really "go nuts on a new tier of quality". And do indeed expect that this will be "a console where they squeak out something a bit nicer in quality", and not much more than that.
  6. Seconded. What's wrong with Krikzz and Stone Age Gamer? And why are the other options better choices?
  7. Just wanted to add that several of these games mentioned have received excellent translation readily available via romhacking.net. And when I say excellent, I mean - in many cases - really excellent. Like up to the standards of official releases. So go nuts, and enjoy your games instead of waiting for something that may never happen.
  8. Super Game Boy 2, for accurate clock speed. The OG Super Game Boy is 2.4 % too fast. Looks great on a Super NES. Especially if output via S-Video or RGB.
  9. I recommend applying this improvement patch to the game: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3837/ It makes it a lot more enjoyable!
  10. I dislike Linebeck. Don't know about hate, might have think more!
  11. Definitely cut the tabs, best and easiest mod ever. It doesn't "break" the console or make it less valuable, and no one will even ever notice it. If you google Honeybee SNES/SFC adapter you'll find plenty images.
  12. I recommend the Mini. Have it myself. It saves space, is well built and is likely to function for a lot longer than an original.
  13. I did this myself, and it worked. Used 2 rings per direction, exactly as showed in My Life in Gaming's video on the controller. Had a bad time playing Celeste before I did.
  14. This is going to be real specific: FIFA 06 (PSP): I was on top of the online leaderboards for a couple of weeks. Mario Kart DS: Virtually no one could beat me on Rainbow Road when playing online. I had that track down! And it didn't allow much for snaking, which was great. Donkey Kong (WiiU Virtual Console): Not me, but my cousin! He was on top of the leaderboard for Donkey Kong. We had some fun calling him "The King of Kong... on Miiverse". My proudest moment was still being able to beat Cuphead recently on Switch. Fun topic, hope to see more people share their achievements!
  15. Axiom Verge, Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Celeste Enjoy your trip!
  16. You already got a very thorough response to this on NA, but I'll bite! They all look to be pretty mediocre to somewhat bad games. You could always watch some longplay footage of the titles you're unsure of on YT. IMHO they don't seem like too much fun, but you should have a look for yourself
  17. Enjoy, man! Wish I could play it for the first time again.
  18. It would be fun to dig up some of these dirty 2-timers' posts in the old NA archive and see how many times they've used the normal 1 space. Just kidding, this is a fun thread I support both sides.
  19. A toss-up between Ocarina of Time and Mega Man 2. But man, that is a hard question to answer!
  20. This looks like a lot of fun, might participate in 2020! Are EverDrives allowed alongside PowerPaks, as long as savestates are not used?
  21. Neatly summed up. It's not groundbreaking by any means, but it just nails what it does. The music is also very good. Chill tunes most of the time, then intense when it needs to be.
