I can't ever figure out the moves and why I get beat up but the pc doesnt......like I said, I bought a guide several years ago, I hope it helps me out with why I suck haha

Those two games specifically, and the WCW counterparts actually have the easiest control set of any wrestling games Ive played.

Tap B, Weak Strike

Hold B, Strong Strike

Tap A, weak grapple

Hold A, Strong grapple

Once in a grapple, the move you do is determined by, hitting a direction on the D-Pad and hitting A or B.

They give you a few seconds after initiating a grapple to make the next button press. So you can let them sit there in the grapple position and you can easily choose a particular move to do.

Example: Hold A into strong grapple…take a second or two to think about what I want to do, hold up on the D-pad and tap A. Boom choke slam. or maybe I decide I want a pile driver, just hold down on the D-pad and tap A, Bam piledriver.

OK. I'm going to start working on Pokemon Stadium 2 next.

nice!  The sooner we beat this library the sooner I can focus on whatever I want to play haha.  Nice work so far guys, let's keep the momentum!  I'm off after 6pm today until Monday so I will prolly get a big leap in Starcraft and beat a few more, like WCW games and chameleon twist 2.  Hopefully I can get a lot closer on starcraft this weekend.

Great work guys with getting to 100 before the end of Jan. I know I’m only 2 games down but I will definitely try to help through the year when I can.

I think we can definitely beat it this year with the way things are going 🙂 hopefully more people jump on board as we get closer to the end.

Definitely! The 2021 thread hit 245ish and I sadly wasn't able to participate that year. My goal is 50 games this year. There are a few that may require a specialist: Aerofighters Assault, the NASCARS, Nuclear Strike, the Turoks; but there are certainly people on VGA that can handle them. This should be our year!

I did nuclear strike one year, if it's available later I'll hit it up again.

Finally finished all the mirrored tracks in Ridge Racer 64! It was fun, but since I'm not great at racers the last 3-4 took me quite a lot of practice. I can go back and finish the Extreme tracks if that's needed for the completion to count, though. Good game, but at the same time I don't think I'd play it again. 😄

Either way, I'm going to get started on Donkey Kong 64 tonight if no one else is tackling it. Been meaning to properly beat that game for a long time.

NHL Breakaway 99 is done. This didn't feel much (any?) different than the prior year's game. Neither one is all that good.

I played through all the sports games a few years ago and quickly learned which ones were trash and which ones acceptable. I prefer the Breakaway series of all the hockey simulation games on the console, but I had breakaway 98 as a kid so I may be biased. Would you prefer any of the others over breakaway?

OK. Sorry y'all. Pokemon Stadium 2 isn't for me either. I'm just going to stop "reserving" games until I play them. I plan on playing Pokemon Crystal sometime this year and, if it's still available, I'll attempt it again with some transferred Pokemon.

Edit: Pokemon Crystal's battery is dead, as is my copy of Gold and Silver. Boooooo. I know they die quicker because of the time mechanic, but maaaaaaaaaaaaan.

On another note great job on the progress, everyone! Y'all are killing it.

DK64 doesn't get near as much love as it should.................I may think it's better than Mario 64 and both Zeldas

Hmm, good question. I didn't own any of the hockey games growing up, but I do remember renting most of them (I don't think I rented Breakaway 99, but definitely 98). NHL 99 was the one I rented most often and I think I still prefer it over the rest.

Over the last couple of years, thanks to this thread, I've gone back and played NHL 99, the Breakaway games, Olympic Hockey, and Gretzky 98 (I dabbled a bit with the original Gretzky a year or two ago, but quickly moved on after someone else beat it). I've found some enjoyment with each of them, but I do find all of the N64 hockey games more mediocre than I remember.

The only one I can't comment on is Blades of Steel, as I have never played it as a kid or as an adult.

I thought Blades of Steel and Olympic Hockey were definitely the worst. Ice Hockey on NES and the n64 titles are really the only Hockey games I've actually put time into so I don't have much else to pull from. My clear favorites would have been the Wayne Gretzkys if it weren't for midway's need to put rubberband AI in every sports title they've ever made 🤦‍♂️

I owned and played a lot of NHL 2001 and NHL Hitz 2002 on the Playstation 2. I should really hook up the PS2 again sometime and see how they hold up, as they were kind of the sweet spot for me. 2001 felt like it had ironed out some of the kinks in the gameplay while later EA games became way too complicated for me (I eventually bought 2008 and 2012, but was never as into either of them). NHL Hitz was more of a spiritual successor to the Wayne Gretzky games - published by Midway, 3v3, very arcadey - although I don't remember the rubberbanding to be as bad as the Gretzky games.

I'll probably play Blades of Steel at some point, maybe this year if no one else gets to it. I could never get into the other sports games (football, soccer, basketball), but hockey has always been the exception. Must be the Canadian in me.
