I had talked with @fox some time ago how they couldve went somewhere with Braun & Fiend re-teaming up. Monster Braun being backed up/guided by the Fiend. Then have "good guy" Braun with the title show up in the Fun House as the Mr. Mcfeely to Bray's Mr. Rogers.

I gotta admit, seeing "Postman Pearce" enter the firefly funhouse made me LOL pretty legitmately. Unfortunately the closest were probably ever going to get lol

Another week, another ppv. Anybody watching tonight?

I did. It was... very average. Predictable like Summerslam but not nearly in as good of a way. Also what in the balls with that ending? MitB swerve without a MitB Case doesn't really work all that much. Wonder if WWE is regretting putting the case on Otis, especially as he hasn't fucking had it at all in months. And no I'm not counting that GD lunchbox. Some highlights though;

Spoiler

Shayna Baszler tapping out Bayley with the Kirifuda Clutch using Sasha's arm while Sasha herself was stuck in a Muta Lock Reverse Indian Deathlock was pretty rad... also surprised it took WWE this long to shit on their Women's Tag Team division by having the truly oddball paring win the belts so definitively.

That Orton vs Keith Lee Match was pretty good. Also while it's silly they're still having Keith wear an upper least he isnt wearing those billowy shorts.

Dominick and Rey winning in also a decent match 👍 tho how much longer we going to have this feud going on? Wouldn't mind seeing The Mysterios become an actual tag team and win the straps, father and son tag team ftw!

not sure what exactly they were thinking with having another PPV so soon.... especially after a Big 4 in SummerSlam. Like seriously Vince, you can cancel a PPV or two right now, it's fucking OK, there's some shit going on, give yer guys a break FFS.

Probably at the rate they're going.

Clash of Champions isn't until the end of September (27th to be precise). then HiaC isn't actually until November 1st. So there will be a bit of a break... but yea wtf'ery abound

I thought the show was average. I didn't care for the main event since they already canceled out the title change from just a week ago. I have no clue why Otis still has the briefcase. I saw something back when he won it that he might cash it in for a tag title shot, which may be the best option at this point given that the tag titles are worthless anyway.

@SpoonMan Abrams X Lol'd at the postman pearce.  You called that.  Now I kind of want to see Firefly Funhouse versions of other Superstars.  z

Payback was a rebuilding show.  Getting the titles off people (Apollo, Banks/Bayley/Fiend) and pushing people (Riddle/Lee/Big E/Heel Roman.)  Not a standout show, but there were a lot of shakeups.  That was a cool ending with the double submission and Bayley tapping out, driving the wedge further between her and Banks.  None of the other women's tag teams have been built up to be a credible threat, two odd couple @$$ kickers isn't a bad alternative.

Rollins looked kind of done with Murphy after this, so maybe this fued is over.  The Mysterios would be a great tag act, and the tag division is kind of floundering right now.

Ending was great.  Good to see them go full heel with Roman.  Come in after Strowman and The Fiend have destroyed each other and the ring, using chair shots and low blows.  Along with Heyman, this is going to sweet.

Also now you have potential for a lot of cool stuff. Like you have babyface like Otis trying to cash in on Heel champ Roman. But wait hear come the Usos with a heel turn to protect their Cuz. That gets the Usos and Heavies to fued. Usos jump Tucky, Kidnap Mandy, and just make Otis' life $hit for months with Heyman the mastermind behind it all, because the briefcase is Roman's one weakness. After going through hell, Otis gives it to a returning Bryan or maybe up and coming Big E to finally cash in on Roman.

AEW All Out 2020... AEWs worst PPV to date. Not WWE levels of bad but was lacking and just not good for a number of reasons.

The Tooth And Nail match was an interesting little cinematic match and pretty funny, Britt Baker is probably one of the best heels in Wrestling right now.

I agree with many that AEW need to reign in some of the shit they allow and be stricter. I really hope Matt Hardy is OK but he shouldn't have even tried that spot in the first place.

Best Match was probably Bucks vs Jurassic Express, though Cassidy vs Jericho III Mimosa Mayhem was also fun, and the Main even (though spoiled by the Casino Battle Royale winner) was decent too.

I'm a staunch critic of all things AEW. But I always try to be objective. I'm so glad I didn't pay 50 dollars for this show. The Hardy thing was just cringe on all levels. I assumed it was a work because they let Hardy continue, but then I listened to the Meltzer show and apparently it wasn't.

Match of the night in my opinion was Shida vs Thunder Rosa. I wasn't a fan of Thunder Rosa for a long time, because I saw her in Lucha Underground and thought she was terrible. She's really stepped it up in the last few years, especially in NWA and tag teaming with Holidead. She impressed me a lot in this match, and at some points outperformed Shida to the point where I was calling Shida "clown shoes."

I didn't like the main event finish because for weeks it told us that Mox's finisher was banned. While this is always a telling signal that the move was going to get used anyway, I thought MJF would win using it, or Mox would use it and then get the decision reversed when another official came out after the match and called it. Nope. The show just ended. Unless they address this on Wednesday I am going to be so irritated.

Spots like Matt Hardys accident is mostly our fault as fans.  We've become so desensitized to big spots for almost 20 years now that they have to do more and more, and more extreme.  Just to prevent us from getting 'bored' and looking at our phones, instead of being invested in the storyline and psychology of the match.

Dug up the clip on youtube, that wasn't even that "extreme" of a spot, just a horribly botched landing.

I think the spots are used more to cover up the lack of actual match quality as much as anything.

That certainly could be true as well.  Big spots are cheap ways to get over,  but then you're burning the candle at both ends cuz you have to keep doing more to stay over.  Im not against big spots but it depends when they're used, like in the main event, or something important.  Its lazy wrestling IMO.

Im not a huge AEW hater.  Theres a lot of stuff I really dont like and I really wish they'd cut the shit and start writing TV for the average person, not the smark.  But some of their fans are crazy.  They defended this for Rey being safe in a concussion sensitive environment, but say Matt Hardys fall was just an accident.  Safe working punches wont concuss someone, just pull back a LOT on the big spots.

Thunder Rosa has been pretty good, especially on NWA Powerrr (which if y'all haven't watched that I highly recommend checking it out, as much as it sucks they've been on hiatus it also means there isn't a giant back catalogue of stuff to drudge threw, only just over a dozen hour long episodes.) She would be a good get for AEW who still really need to bolster their Women's division a bit, and is a great character which would improve their presentation IMHO. Especially glaring when their best women's stuff is not even for the title, and then there's little to nothing else going on... and that's not all to day they don't have a great women's division atm, they're just not doing a whole lot with it.

I really liked the finish of Moxley vs. MJF personally. I think it protected MJF a bit while showing that Moxley is more then just a roughneck babyface ala Steve Austin. It shows some real cunning and leaves the possibility open for a rematch, as well as some potentially interesting stories going forward.

I am admittedly out of the loop on wrestling right now, but I thought about checking out All Out. I figured it's be like $20 or something....

....$50.....

I mean you have to be kidding me, lol. Jesus.

Saw a clip of that Sydal Botch though. Yikes!!

Yeah they've been charging full price for all of them. And sadly Sydal's botch wasn't the worst thing that night 😐

Looks like the honeymoon period for AEW is over

It's been over for a while? Or it just was an ill advised/fated show. Either way I think that AEW needs to do a bit more to shake some things up, while not putting the health and safety of their roster at risk, which honestly seems like it has been a bit of an issue looking back. This show in particular.

It was an accident, but it wasn't anyone's fault. You're missing the entire point of why people are mad and AEW really screwed up; the fact they should've just thrown out the match completely. Just because Hardy supposedly said he was fine and supposedly passed whatever wellness check their ringside doc gave him doesn't at all excuse them going on even if it was just for the finish. It was a really, really bad call by all those involved.

Not sure how I'm missing the point when I said it shouldn't have even been done in the first place.

  • 2 weeks later...

So RETRIBUTION is hot garbage. Then again, that was kinda apparent from the get go when they debuted this group. Not even looking at the fact that Vince once again is clearly just ignoring years of NXT story & development for the sake of... I don't even know at this point.

On the plus side AEW itself has gotten back on track after All Out. And NXT itself is has been top notch last few weeks.
