There's a reason Warrior's title reign was so short.

But I'll give you Macho Man though.  I stand by everything else I said.   Fact remains there wasn't really a place for a really good cruiserweight unless you're sticking him on a tag team back then.

His reign was short cuz he really couldn't cut it.  Not much of a 'people person' and couldn't really go in the ring.  More of selling the sizzle than the steak.  But Hogan needed a break and Warrior was a huge draw.  Also Warrior was a main event draw after 1990.  then again, after 1992 the dude wrestled like 15 matches from then to 1998.  Let me clarify the significance of the IC title back then.  It was given to good workers that might not be main event guys, high upper card guys, OR was the test to see how the crowd would react before going to the main title.  A stepping stone for smaller guys or inexperienced champs.  Going off my memory:

Valentine: Upper Midcard heel

Tito: Upper Midcard babyface, good worker

Macho: Just a test cuz you're not giving him the title right away., good worker

Steamboat: To take the belt off Mach to push him to the main event, good worker

Honky Tonk: Upper Midcard heel

Warrior: Belt test (Before winning the HVY)

Mr. Perfect: Upper Midcard, heel good worker

Tornado: Upper Midcard face

Bret: Belt Test (Before winning the HVY), good worker

Bulldog: Upper Midcard

Shawn: Upper Midcard/Belt Test (Was a singles for less than a year at the time), good worker.

You get the idea.  But that championship kinda got diluted towards the late 90s.  I can't remember anyone really having the title that meant anything except Diesel (HVY Test, in the company less than a year), Razor (Upper Mid Card), Austin (HVY Test), etc.

Vince doesnt like the roman is staying home to be with his newborn twins, instead of touching people during a pandemic. So they edited him out of highlights.

When seth cashed in and won there was no roman, so it looked like he beat brock. And the make a wish package had zero roman in either.

Vince is clearly bitter.

It's disappointing how meaningless the Intercontinental and Tag titles are now. Back in the '80s and early '90s, the IC champion was the #1 contender to the WWF title. I think they did away with that rule in the mid 90s, but it was easier to build up a mid card wrestler when the title actually meant something.

I think it had more to do with their house shows.  A shows had the HVY and B shows had the IC.  Eventually once that eroded it didn't make any sense.  Titles are mostly meaningless unless they're the big ones.  So I think personally, they should do away with all titles and just have like 3 or 4 max.  HVY, IC/TV, Tag, Cruiser/Light HVY.

He did. But WWE won't show old footage of him.

They just showed a prolonged shot of a picture of Roman tonight during the Money in the Bank Ladder Match itself. There have been references of him but they've been sparse, not to mention ESPN? did an hour long thing all about Roman just last week.

I think it has less to do with him having heat and WWE/Vince trying to save some face in what would (or just is) a PR nightmare in the making. Think about it; One of if not their top guy is taking time off for family reasons during a global pandemic yet are still essentially forcing talent into to competing live weekly. Compounded by the fact not even 2 weeks ago they fired/laid off/furloughed some estimate 40% of their total employment including performers... and that's not even half of the crazy shit going on/happening with WWE right now.

If you pay attention during any of the broadcasts there is next to no mention of COVID or the pandemic, and bringing up Roman or his absence would undermine that... therefor he is "banned" from being shown or mentioned, period.

Well you guys think I'm ready to go on to 'Mania 2?

Could you imagine if they had a proper Cruiserweight/Light Heavyweight championship/division back in the 80s? hat would've been something, especially with some of the talent of the time. Never would've happened, but imagine lol

I haven't and probably won't actively keep up with this thread as pro wrestling I loved around roughly 1985-about 2000 before it got all super jacked people covered in douchy hipster art and just a lot more modern tasteless shock value stuff going on, so I guess the golden era of WWF/WCW stuff.  I catch threads that get streamed for hours on facebook now and again and it's a fun flash back, and the other day I found out about a great really nice youtube channel called wrestling with paul, and it has a bunch of the old footage from those decades.  One nice playlist from 1986-96 has 110+ videos all by the month it appears and 1-2hrs long each.  Might be worth a look if you're into the classic 20th century era stuff as most those greats now are hobbled or dead from the culture or bad luck.

Seriously though, Outside of WWE pretty much everywhere else has or had plenty of "top guys" who were anything but the mold of being super jacked... heck even to WWE's credit a lot of their top guys nowadays aren't all that jacked (even Roman Reigns I wouldn't consider overly big, especially compared to the likes of Cena, Hulk, or even his cousin the Rock).

I would encourage you to watch & offer some links to good Indy Wrestling or tell you to watch NWA Powerrr but it seems like you've already made your decision, so more power to you friend 👍

Ahh gotcha it threw me off as sometimes people take over names to keep stuff going.

Anyone check out that link I gave the other day?  I've been streaming it slowly as I work or have a moment and the memories of it all coming back it's amusing and fun.  I saw a little bit of it is on the WWE site for streaming, kind of shocked they don't just shove it all up there.

Why give the title to asuka? Fuck sakes.

Almost certainly because it was an audible and the MitB Ladder Match was recorded some weeks before. I get vibes that Becky's pregnancy was something that was discovered very recently, probably in the last week after the RAW before.

Heard Otis might use it to get the tag belts.

It's been confirmed as much when he did a(n apparently) shoot interview someplace.

Super stoked for my dude, Otis. Couldn't happen to a better guy!

Really happy about Otis, too!

I'm one of the few who don't care for it? Not to say he's not a great guy or necessarily deserving... but I don't think he's at that level yet to main event or anything... I think he's entertaining but his character just doesn't seem like it. idk. As for him using it to go for the tag titles, for one it seems like a waste especially after the last 3 years of ultimately shoddy booking of the briefcase (Lesnar I think was a great choice to hold it... but his actual cash-in was just bad. Imo it would've behooved them to have him Cash it in on Kofi, but I digress). Also if they're gonna have a Tag Team MitB cash-in... why not just have a Tag Team MitB match? Try and truly capture some of that classic TLC magic.

NWA dropped the season finale episode of Powerrr as it was meant for the build to the Crockett Cup, however with ongoings the event was cancelled, but it is still pretty good. Glad to see them still alive

In the mean time theyre debuting a new show, "Carnyland" next week

I'm intrigued. NWA Powerrr has been a treat to watch, a good mix of modern wrasslin with golden era flavor. Looking forward to this new incarnation.

RIP Shad Gaspard
https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/20/entertainment/shad-gaspard-wwe-body-found-trnd/index.html

Lots of people saying the man was a real life superhero. I'd say so. He stopped an armed robbery in 2016. Also he was the motion capture & body double in God of War 2018.
And goes without saying he made the ultimate sacrifice to save his son's life. Truly a life cut too short.

AEW Double or Nothing was pretty solid. Not as good as Revolution (which might be the best Pro Wrestling PPV this year) but still a good show

Spoiler

Brian Cage debuted in the Casino Battle Royale Ladder match... and won! So he'll be going for the AEW World Title soon. Pretty good as far as Ladder matches go

Hikaura Shida is the new AEW Women's Champion in a pretty good hardcore match.

Dustin Rhodes beat Shawn Spears in a decent match. Lol at Spears having Tully Blanchard's face on his underpants

MJF beat Jungle boy tho Jungle boy put up a good fight

Cody is the inaugural TNT Champion; He took down Lance Archer in what was a pretty solid match. TNT Belt has a nice red belt, though the design in unfinished; even then still looks better then the 24/7 title lol

Moxley retained the World Title by beating Brodie Lee by referee stoppage, choking him out. Also a good match.

Stadium Stampede match between the Elite and Inner Circle was silly fun; very well done in it's style.

All in all great show, check it out if you haven't. Revolution was an easy A, so I'd give this a B or B+

I'd rate it in the same range. It was a solid show from top to bottom.
