  1. A couple of posters over on CheapAssGamer have bought these machines and the general consensus is the build quality is excellent for the price point. Completely blows away A1U (which is kinda expected given it's twice the price.)
  2. The controller could be a bootleg. IIRC, they were pretty common in the Japanese market.
  3. Stop using reason to rain on internet hot takes. According to all the best YouTube comments, GameStop going out of business will magically bring back Funcoland in every small town USA.
  4. The common theme I see on other forums and social media is people are under the impression that Gamestop is the main reason holding back independent video game stores from thriving.
  5. My first console was the Intellivsion up until around 1989, so I had in my childhood library some of the very obscure games put out by INTV. My favorite among them was Hover Force. It's one of the most graphically impressive games on the Intellivision: During my teenage years, I wasted many hours playing a Macintosh shareware RPG called Realmz.
  6. I didn't play WW or TP until a decade after they were released, so I got to experience both the first time without the burden of rose-colored glasses. Playing them back-to-back, I have to say I enjoyed WW more (Triforce quest not-withstanding).
  7. John D of A1U clarified the current situation with the rights on the NBA Jam cabinet:
  8. I was able to fit one into the trunk of my Camry with the back seats folded down. The boxes are about 60-70lbs. I was able to lift and load mine by myself was awkard but doable.
  9. It's funny how that game was held up as some lost hidden gem until it finally everyone got a chance to play it. Now people can't wait to tell you how overrated and bad it is.
  10. Picture of the Golden Axe cabinet at CES:
  11. Some updates to the Massachusetts section: Get rid of Family Treasure Chest Resale and Khristina's Closet, those stores have been closed for years. E&L Collectibles has been closed for at least two years now as well. Game Underground moved yet again, they are now located in Waltham.
  12. There are proponents for women to be included in Selective Service as a necessary step towards equal gender rights. The question is currently being battled in the courts: https://www.npr.org/2019/03/01/699481953/court-ruling-renews-debate-on-women-and-the-draft I think the CBS article is over-blowing it, but humor is a natural coping mechanism for things people fear and have no control over. The draft memes are way for people to relieve underlying anxieties about current events.
  13. That photo of units under curtains is almost two years old. Those were WIP prototypes, as evidenced by the cabinet at the end with Altered Beast and Streets of Rage titles. SoR is no longer on the Sega cabinet. Edit: That Big Buck Hunter is going to sell huge, both to the "I want a Golden Tee/Hunter in my home man cave" crowd as well as to modders depending on the internals of those guns & pcb. I'm pretty stoked about an Marvel vs Capcom & Golden Axe cabinet, Golden Axe is one of my all time favorite arcade games.
  14. Arcade1Up is also planning a Star Wars pinball 3/4th replica, as leaked on the pinside forums: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/arcade1up-pinball-star-wars-virtual-pinball-machine-
  15. It could be different with Gamestop, but typically the store sells off it's current inventory. Store closing sales typically aren't where you get the best deals at first. The store will jack everything back up to full price before applying the store-wide discount. You usually need to wait until the store has raised the discount, but by then most of the best stuff is gone.
  16. I remember that 2004-2005 was about the time when modern malware arrived. I think it coincided when a critical mass of people replaced dial-up with high-speed, always on broadband. Computer viruses transitioned from vandalizing your PC as a prank of the 90s to hijacking your computer to store illegal content and/or steal your bank & CC numbers. PC security was laughably unprepared at the time.
  17. I overheard the cashier talking with a regular; he mentioned he's quitting the company once the store closes, he doesn't expect Gamestop as a whole to last too much longer.
  18. http://gsclosing.blogspot.com/ Handy webpage someone linked over on the CheapAssGamer forums. It has a list of the current Gamestops scheduled to be closed within the next few weeks that are running liquidation sales. The list isn't complete, it includes the Brockton, MA store but not the Taunton Galleria mall or Bridgewater locations which are also shutting down. YMMV of course on leftover inventory and current mark-downs.
  19. By chance, I happened to be at the Brockton Westgate Mall this weekend and noticed the Gamestop there is closing it's doors. New/preowned games were 40-50% off and collectible merch 60-80% off. The Nintendo section was pretty much decimated and the XB1/PS4 sections starting to look thin, but I still managed to grab for myself Planescape/Icewind Dale collection, RE7 Gold Edition, and a sweet Atari hat. Called up my buddy @Pendragonx and went down his want list until I found a Wii U Pro controller and CIB pre-owned copy of Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator. All-in-all, paid $80 for everything.
  20. My childhood mall died an early death. It was a small mall and stores were starting to abandon it by the mid-90s due to competition from mega-malls. Once the mall lost it's only anchor when Caldor filed for bankruptcy and closed down, the mall was shuttered and demolished. I've tried Google searches to find any old pictures of the mall, but I haven't found anything. It's a shame because I remember the mall had a lovely dated design: The exterior was mocked up to look like castle walls while the interior walls were wood-grain with mural artwork of jousting, etc. Once the mall was demolished, a modern "U-shaped" designed strip mall was built in it's place in the early-2000s and filled with middle-class chain stores. Not nearly as awesome as a castle mall. History is repeating itself and that new mall is slowly beginning to die as an even larger and fancier modern strip mall was built a town over. Half the store lots are now empty and there are signs cash isn't flowing into the place like it used to.
  21. I bought it, never got past the second stage. It never really grabbed me. I'd wait for a sale if you wanna try it out.
  22. CD based and hard shell box systems like the Genesis I go for CB/CIB most of the time. It's usually not much harder to get a CB/CIB copy than a loose copy. Loose disc games are also a PITA to sell when you want to part with them. For my remaining systems, I stick to mostly loose carts.
  23. Yep, that's the difference between Trump & prior Presidents. Democrats hated Bush and Republicans hated Obama, but neither side seriously entertained impeachment because neither President abused their office to warrant impeachment.
