  1. I pass by a Savers on my commute home, so I regularly stop in to check it's inventory. I'd say up until 2015 or so, the store would double up cartridge games in plastic bags for $3. At some point either corporate or the manager realized how in demand vidya gaems were and the prices skyrocketed. The current prices are now: Any pre-sixth generation console commons: $8 flat pricing 1st party games or games that might be desirable: $25 flat pricing Sixth gen console commons: $4 flat pricing 360/PS3/Wii games: $1-3 pricing PS4/XBO games: $8 flat pricing WiiU games: $20 (I shit you not) flat pricing Actually valuable games: Whatever pricecharting says Once in a blue moon the store slips in their pricing, but in general it is no longer worth buying games from there. I've moved on from hunting retro games at thrift stores and more towards keeping an eye out for board games and graphic novels. The recent fad of board games and superhero movies has meant a glut of graphic novels, comic omnibuses, and pricey board games are winding up at the thrift store with no one wiser to their value. I've walked out with board games and graphic novels for $3-4 a piece that would cost me $30-60 a piece at the Newbury Comics store down the street.
  2. "OH, NO, NOT THE BEES! NOT THE BEES! AAAAAHHHHH! OH, THEY'RE IN MY EYES! MY EYES! AAAAHHHHH! AAAAAGGHHH!" - Edward Malus, The Wicker Man, 2006
  3. Nope, but I think that was due to my family not being very tech-savvy. One of my college roommates reported long lines at the ATM on New Year's Eve. People were withdrawing a few hundred dollars "just in case". I'm kind of annoyed at the Y2K revisionism that has gone on in the years since 2000. People believing that because Y2K didn't live up to the hype of bombs going off or civilization collapsing that is was all a hoax or conspiracy by tech companies to sell computers.
  4. Gamestop DotD: Sega Genesis Mini (new) on sale for $35. Offer is online only (though you can choose to pick up at store) and discount is taken off at cart. Doesn't combine with other promos or offers.
  5. Railgun games had a minor Renaissance on the Wii, the last hurrah for that genre. If you're interested in exploring that genre on the Wii, I'd recommend checking out: House of the Dead: Overkill House of the Dead 2 & 3 Dead Space Extraction Ghost Squad Gunblade NY & LA collection Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles Sin & Punishment Metal of Honor: Heroes 2 (has a railgun mode) Cabela also put out a bunch of hunting games on the Wii of varying quality Sega Bass Fishing has a decent port to the Wii, the Wiimote emulating the old Dreamcast fishing controller.
  6. The Numbskull and NewWaveToys 1/6 replica arcade machines are really slick, but I have a hard time justifying the $99-160 price tag for what is essentially a display piece. Anyone looking for a cheap mini-arcade toy, I recommend is the color Pac-Man by Basic Fun. I believe it may be a Wal-Mart exclusive. The color screen and presentation greatly resembles the old Coleco Pac-Man toy.
  7. Gamestop's Winter Sale is live now online and from 26th-29th in-store. Of particular interest to people on this forum is one of the promotions is a Buy 2 Get 2 Free deal on all pre-owned games.
  8. Gamestop DotD - XBox One X NBA 2k19 bundle for $250. It looks like this price stacks with their current promo of an extra XBox One controller free with a purchase of an X console, which makes this deal even better. https://www.gamestop.com/video-games/xbox-one/consoles/products/xbox-one-x-nba-2k19-bundle-1tb/10163450.html?utm_source=rakutenls&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_content=Twitter&utm_campaign=2&utm_kxconfid=tebx5rmj3&cid=afl_10000087&affID=77777&sourceID=0wLgH49VWzI-vZ4hSoTSol5NGOypWtFYWg
  9. Nothing living. I've found dead spiders & bugs inside game carts and consoles. The worst was a yard sale Wii I took apart because it was scratching discs and found the disc drive was full of spider silk and pieces of bug carapace. At a yard sale once, I came across a GBA lot inside a GBA travel fanny pack. I opened up one of the compartments and cockroaches immediately began scurrying about inside it. I put the pack down and walked away.
  10. I'm not sure how I feel about this. This patch means there's now a 1.0 version Cats now potentially lost to cinema history outside of initial bootleg recordings.
  11. Patches aren't for modern video games anymore; the movie Cats is getting a post-release patch to fix glitches in the visual effects:
  12. Also since the thread is going on about Biden & Ukraine, I thought I should post what everyone outside Trump and his right-wing stooges agree upon: Victor Shokin was a top Ukrainian prosecutor. He was accused of stonewalling corruption cases against Ukrainian politicians Anti-corruption advocates within Ukraine had been trying for years to oust him with no success Joe Biden pressured Ukraine to fire Victor Shokin with threat of withholding US aid. This pressure was supported by US policy, EU nations, and the IMF Burisma Holdings (the company Hunter Biden was a member of the board) was not under investigation at this time. Burisma was investigated by Victor Shokin's office regarding misconduct prior to Hunter Biden joining the board. This investigation focused on permits Burisma obtained two years prior to Hunter joining the company. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/10/03/what-really-happened-when-biden-forced-out-ukraines-top-prosecutor/3785620002/
  13. So you'd be fine if Trump asked for an investigation if Biden was a possible arsonist? We have no evidence Biden is an arsonist, but we don't want an arsonist as President, therefore it's appropriate that Trump should ask a foreign government to start an investigation into whether Biden is an arsonist?
  14. Exactly when/where else has Trump given a shit about corruption? I think what has been made public it's clear Trump just wanted an announcement of an investigation to tie an albatross around Biden; because the "but her emails!" meme worked for him against Hillary in 2016.
  15. Retronauts. Each podcast does a deep dive into one specific game or area of retrogaming. Each podcast tends to run from 1-3 hours in length. https://retronauts.com/topic/podcast CUPodcast. Pat Contri & Ian Ferguson do a weekly 45-120 minute long podcast discussing both modern and retro gaming news & topics. https://cupodcast.podbean.com/
  16. The NGPC game Samurai Shodown! 2 is getting a physical Switch release as part of the Samurai Shodown collector's set:
  17. Alpha 2 has the distinction of being the final game Capcom published on the SNES. Although it's technically the worst port of Alpha 2 to home consoles, it is a technical marvel that Capcom was able to successfully cram a CPS2 arcade game onto a 16-bit console. It was a fitting swan song for Capcom on the SNES.
  18. I'm really curious how this product pulls off lightgun support. From what I understand already the adapter injects code while Duck Hunt is running, I'm wondering how it handles all the varying ranges of input lag across HDTVs.
  19. Starlink: Battle for Atlas Starter Pack for Switch $8.99 @ Best Buy: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/starlink-battle-for-atlas-starter-pack-featuring-star-fox-nintendo-switch/6260477.p?skuId=6260477&irclickid=Rt5R1Wx8AxyOTR60MKVSfWfHUknyJD2lUwOUSs0&irgwc=1&ref=198&loc=Rt5R1Wx8AxyOTR60MKVSfWfHUknyJD2lUwOUSs0&acampID=660629&mpid=312361
  20. I don't think there will be public confusion like the Wii vs Wii U. As bad as the name Wii U was, the fatal mistake was focusing initial marketing on the tablet without making it clear it wasn't just an add-on for the Wii.
  21. Awesome, I'm glad my "get out the word" posts bore fruit.
  22. Nice work. I think I can help further flush out that list. One of the CIB Genesis consoles in my collection is a WalMart store exclusive sports bundle. The box is a Model 2 Core System box with a sticker slapped over the Core System label along with different cardboard internals. Unfortunately, whoever owned the box originally scratched off most of the sticker on the front of the box, so I included a shot of the side profile:
  23. Thanks! I've been meaning to pick up these controllers for awhile.
  24. This is going to turn out to be one of those "Black DIamond Disney VHS" fake hype stories.
