  1. If anybody is considered the authoritative source to answer this question, I would say it is the people of and around Philly
  2. I would have to say no. A bun is a type of bread, it doesn’t matter what the form factor is. It can be a hotdog bun a hamburger bun or just a regular bun, they’re all the same type of bread. The type of bread used in a sub is it more course type of bread. But even then I would still argue that is sub typically has fresh cut garden vegetables in it. Meatball sub is called a sub in name only, but I don’t think that’s really a sub
  3. While we are getting technical with the semantics side of things, Philly Cheesesteaks were popularized by Pats and Genos in Philly. They made the sandwiches with cheese whiz, not provolone. If it’s not made the way they make it in Philly can you really call it a “Philly cheese steak”? Why not just call it a cheese steak instead??
  4. I just did some further research. This may be throwing a big wrench into things. I have read that the original Philly Cheesesteak was invented by a hot dog cart vendor and it was actually served on a hotdog bun, not on a sub roll. Boom
  5. What if you dipped the sub roll in eggs, fried it and put powdered sugar and cinnamon inside.. French toast or sub?
  6. This is how language evolves. People say things that may be incorrect. If it catches on with enough people, then it gets called slang. If slang becomes widespread enough, it gets put in the dictionary. By the time it’s in the the dictionaries, autocorrect and spellcheck are validating it, and everyone is using it, it officially becomes part of the language
  7. Furthermore, the original hamburgers were actually called “hamburger sandwich”.. the term Hamburger was specifically referring to the meat inside the sandwich. Nowadays the term hamburger tends to refer to the entire sandwich, so I can see why they would say chicken hamburger. Its kind of like how the model names of cars evolved. Like for example Honda Civic used to have a variation called Civic CRX. At some point they dropped Civic and just called the model CRX. Then they made a CRX variant called CRX del sol or Civic del sol. Then they dropped everything and just called it Honda del sol. There’s lots of examples like this in cars where variants became their own models outright, like Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Toyota Celica Supra, etc
  8. At what point can you call it a pizza and not a sub?
  9. But they do make Phillies at Subway. Although when they make it, they can add lettuce, tomatoes, pickles etc.
  10. I usually think of subs as having lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and other garden vegetables on it. Phillies in that regard are a sandwich but not quite a sub. Yet they do serve them at Subway... although they also serve wraps, salads and did serve pizza...
  11. I hope it lands in the ocean. I understand the sentiment in wanting retribution for the carelessness, but realistically if it did land in China it would probably end up crushing some average citizens just minding their own business. Hard to imagine it actually hitting the people who were responsible for the poor planning.
  12. Mouse and rabbit. My cat was about to kill this and I rescued it.
  13. I’d say it depends on the chip and the manufacturer. In my experience working for 2 different major US manufacturing companies, and working with many manufactured products made in various plants within these companies, as well as third party manufacturers, I have come to understand that design life is a term that is to be taken lightly. Often times design life is “selected” for commercial and marketing reasons, rather than objectively based on scientific research. For pretty much all things that are basically unbreakable, manufacturers will always just say 20 years design life. Often times 20 years means in reality, it will keep going and going, but they just have to assign a term. Often times, new products are put to the stress test. They will cycle many samples of the product, many times in a short period of time. The problem with this method is that the stress resulting from many cycles in a short period of time is often worse than the actual stress that you’d see under normal cycling condition of extended periods of time. Nonetheless, these stress tests cycling results are extrapolated to represent a number of years. They will state the design life based on statistical analysis in order to achieve a number of commercial goals, such as minimizing the amount of warranty claims, making the product look more robust compared to competitors, making the product look less robust so customers will seek frequent replacements (more revenue), etc.. The most trustworthy type of design life claim is one based on historical data. When you have a design that’s been around forever and you have a pool of actual sample specimens that have been in service and you know how long they lasted in service until failure, then you can make a legit claim. Unfortunately when there’s a drastically new product design, it’s impossible to make a guaranteed claim of designation life, because the design hasn’t had the time to be put to test. But you can make some good assumptions based off of what you have learned from previous designs. Another point to be made, with chips, there is the design life of the physical chip itself and then there is the life of the charge. You have to make sure that you are considering the correct life.
  14. Could have been autonomous drones. They make those nowadays. They can fly in formations and coordinate with each other to make patterns. Or could have been Aliens
  15. Apparently China launched a massive rocket into space a week or so ago. The first stage of the rocket was so massive that it is not expected to burn up in the atmosphere. Unfortunately, planning was not done to ensure an orderly landing of the first stage. So we don’t know where or when it will collide with the earth. What we do know is that it should be landing sometime between the end of this week and mid next week. And it won’t be landing in Canada.
  16. All the Castlevanias on 16-bit have their own merits. They shouldn’t be judged against each other, they should be appreciated for what each one brings to the table. Super Castlevania is a tech demo. It was a launch title that basically uses every graphical rendering technique the SNES has to offer. It shows off the capabilities of the SNES. Bloodlines brings innovation to the series. An alternative gameplay style is introduced. A new set of controls is available for the classic play style. A new storyline is introduced. New roster of weapons, newly introduced blood/gore graphics. Everything is fresh and new on Sega. Dracula X brings it back to classic NES gameplay. But it’s ultra polished. They remixed the CD tracks from PC Engine into SNES tracks. They tried to go with a more progressive late-SNES art style for the backgrounds and foregrounds to make things feel newer. I personally liked the PC engine game better but the SNES version has its own charm.
  17. Listening to people trash all these Mario games... As if there’s something comparatively better. If Nintendo games are so bad then just don’t play them. But instead some people keep on playing through them, while simultaneously flinging crap all over them.
  18. They probably didn’t pay attention to the games. One who wasn’t paying attention would think the Break Man fight in MM3 was a Proto Man fight. Of course he is apparently the bad guy in MM5 but you see the plot twist if you finish the game. In MM7, you actually do fight Protoman but it’s just to test your ability (although he can kill you, what a jerk). But that’s probably not relevant to the cartoon as MM7 came out well after the cartoon.
  19. It’s not necessarily malicious behavior by the seller. It could be that he just duplicated someone else’s listing and doesn’t realize the difference between brand new sealed and very good CIB Theres a button at the bottom of every listing that says “sell one like this” If you click it, eBay will create a duplicate of that listing for you and allow you to make any necessary edits. This may explain why his price is $150 also, I think that’s a little high for a used copy of Dragoon
  20. I am still missing Dragonquest V. Wish I had bought it before it went crazy. I’d even settle for a loose copy at this point. I was lucky to find an extra loose copy of DQ IV during this hunt for Dragon Quest DS games. Not willing to sell IV straight up, but I am willing do a trade+ for V
  21. 1. Battletoads Turbo Tunnel (no time limit, one try) 2. Mike Tyson’s Punchout, Mike Tyson fight (timer starts, one try) 3. Gradius Stage 1 (use any time remaining from Mike Tyson fight, one try)
