😄 Heh, gifted into Rd 2 and now gifted into the finals... this is like when Gerald Ford became president of the US without ever being elected to anything... Well good luck, Mike 🙂 Though you must know the Vegas odds of you winning are like 40 billion to 1.... 😛

Vegas is giving me far too much credit 😛

I edited my first post for a score post...just thought I'd ask whether I should wait for my respawn to take the picture on Macross or if pausing on death like I did is fine.  This may or may not be my best score, but I'm gonna try again eventually so it may be moot, but better to figure out what's best early in the week than at the 11th hour 😛

EDIT: It's a moot point...I haven't been able to time my pause fast enough to get it on death another time, and I've already surpassed that score.

Man, I can't wait to get Macross done so I can get started on Batman.  Am I crazy or is the music in Macross really cool!

Isn't the game based off an anime? Likely the music comes from the anime as well. Looking it up, I am correct. Here's that Wikipedia has to say:

The game's main background music is an 8-bit version of the Lynn Minmay song "Shao Pai Long" ("Little White Dragon"), which was featured in both the original 1982 TV series and its 1984 movie adaptation.

Definitely more awesome in the game though...

@BeaIank I just recorded a test video for Batman with my shitty old digital camera, but it looks like it's going to be 80 mb per minute.  Can I post my final submission on another site (like youtube, unless someone has a better idea) and then link to it here?  This is the only way you'll be able to see that my run is legit; failing that, I'd have to do the separate picture of a timer on the honour system rigamarole...

Yes, you can upload it on youtube (or any other video hosting sites) and post the link here!

This is actually the best way to check your time.

@Dr. Morbis I didn’t even know you could post a video on this site without it being a YouTube link? How did you do that? Can I post a video with my iPhone onto the site?

He hosted it on YouTube.  He's asking if he could post the video to YouTube for his submission so nobody questions it's legitimacy.  This is due to not being able to have the timer in the frame.

Anyway, I was thinking about it, and for anyone playing on console, would it be easier to record the run and then time it's playback?  It'd be easier to do the stopwatch thing from a video than to get the right timing while playing.  The idea doesn't affect me any (I'm probably just gonna use the checkpoint tool that speedrunners use since I'm emulating anyway), but it'd definitely be a factor for someone like @Dr. Morbis who won't have the timer in the same image.

As wiz said, I just posted it on my youtube account and then embedded the link here.  Looks like that's what I'll be doing for my submission whenever I get my best run recorded.  Five days to go... 🙂

Haha, you think that both deafcode and  wizard are going to outplay you... !?!  Unless you're taking a fall on purpose, I just don't see it. 😉

My goal, personally, is to record a no-death run, which I'm not even sure I'll have enough time to do in the five days we have left, but if I can accomplish that, whatever time I get probably won't look anything like a "speedrun" ...

As Guil said, this is the best way to do it if you aren't using an emulator and the official speedrun timesplit.

Also, added the Speedrun rule for emulators that RAM and memory watch features are not allowed for Batman, as they provide an unfair advantage that is not possible on console such as seeing before hand where enemies are and their patterns.

Sounds good to me. I'm typically good at platformers, but I've barely played Batman. Too bad it wasn't Batman Returns. I won that contest twice and probably could have beaten the game again on my limited time.

Ive been assuming Im probably the only player in the field that is unlikely to complete the game. Platformers that I am not real familiar with, I rarely end up beating in a weeks time. Batman is short but tough. One lifing it probably not in cards for me. Ive also never played anything for speed and its going badly. And Im terrible at shooters. Havent even been able to get 200k for 2 measley points. Also a tough work week and family coming in the weekend, so Im a friendly participation score this week.

The real story the odds were meant to tell is this is all about dr m vs bert. Outside shot to deaf because he is talented, but if this were really posted in a sportsbook, debate would be where to set dr m odds and bert odds because thats where most of the money would go.

In reality, that matchup is closer to a coin flip than the odds I posted. But figuring in what a book would, mainly that you are relatively new and bert has multiple titles and that his regular season rank is obviously skewed by limited participation, they would skew toward bert to avoid liability. Maybe not as much as I did. Thats why I asked doug to weigh in. -275 may have been too heavy there.

Too bad I didn't get to pick who got my spot. It seems like @docile tapeworm might be able to win this if he made the finals.

I strongly considered giving my spot to @mbd39because unlike me, he could have really done something with it. Reason I didnt was it felt like it would kind of screw @PIIwho finished ahead of him last round. Then I thought about giving to pii, and that really didnt seem fair either, so I concluded I will participate, suck, and thatll be that

Go for it! Just go for a no death run. Farm enemies when low on health or ammo.
