I strongly considered giving my spot to @mbd39because unlike me, he could have really done something with it. Reason I didnt was it felt like it would kind of screw @PIIwho finished ahead of him last round. Then I thought about giving to pii, and that really didnt seem fair either, so I concluded I will participate, suck, and thatll be that

We all know that skinny = ratings!

Ive been assuming Im probably the only player in the field that is unlikely to complete the game. Platformers that I am not real familiar with, I rarely end up beating in a weeks time. Batman is short but tough. One lifing it probably not in cards for me. Ive also never played anything for speed and its going badly. And Im terrible at shooters. Havent even been able to get 200k for 2 measley points. Also a tough work week and family coming in the weekend, so Im a friendly participation score this week.

The real story the odds were meant to tell is this is all about dr m vs bert. Outside shot to deaf because he is talented, but if this were really posted in a sportsbook, debate would be where to set dr m odds and bert odds because thats where most of the money would go.

In reality, that matchup is closer to a coin flip than the odds I posted. But figuring in what a book would, mainly that you are relatively new and bert has multiple titles and that his regular season rank is obviously skewed by limited participation, they would skew toward bert to avoid liability. Maybe not as much as I did. Thats why I asked doug to weigh in. -275 may have been too heavy there.

Fair enough.  Though I'm treating it more like "try to beat the game without dying" than a speedrun at this point, but if I can do that, then I'll work on doing it faster.  I beat the game last night on my re-familiarization run (I checked my records and I haven't played it since a 1cc run in April of 2005) but it took me numerous continues and the Joker fight was hard as hell.  That being said, I haven't watched any youtube videos for strats yet, which I'll be doing tonight.

I've got time so I'll be giving it my all; my only hope is that if I lose to bert, it's from a verifiable score on his end; I'd hate to have an awesome video run posted, and have it "lose" to a random picture of a cellphone timer, but whatever happens will happen, I guess.....

It's Wednesday and you know what that means. Skinny stories!!

Not much to tell. That’s me in the middle. Kids called me “flat face”. Who I consider my best friend buddy to the left and Zach (right) lived across the street. Single Wide trailer trash with the wood panel and recessed mirrors. Vcr duct taped to the tv. Nintendo 4 life!

I'm also not likely to beat it.  Hell, I can't even beat the first boss yet 😛

As Guil said, this is the best way to do it if you aren't using an emulator and the official speedrun timesplit.

Also, added the Speedrun rule for emulators that RAM and memory watch features are not allowed for Batman, as they provide an unfair advantage that is not possible on console such as seeing before hand where enemies are and their patterns.

I had no idea such features existed...but that said, I'm also not surprised that they do.

I watched one out of curiousity and it was insane. For most enemies, he was punching once to stun them, then jumping over them to keep going. Probably cut down on drops by 80%. Have no idea how he still had ammo whenever he needed it. I love these games, but to plan and practice to be that perfect? A game would lose its fun for me before you got there

Yeah, I could never be a speed-runner for that very reason.

Man, I can get to Joker now on one credit, but I have not  figured out how the hell to get through stages 3 and 4 without dying... and that Joker fight, holy shit, looks like child's play on the youtube videos but it is hard as hell (youtube guys manipulate RNG from the very start of the game to get a Joker setup where they know for certain he'll only shoot once, so not really viable for regular joes with one week to get it down).  And every time I get a game over, I have to do 5-1 again to get back to Joker to practice (damn you emulating bastards!), so I think by the end of this week I'll know 5-1 of Batman better than any other video game level in history, aside from maybe SMB 1-1...

I don't think that matters much for the actual fight if you don't care about losing a second. All it adds is an extra jump to the start. The key to the rest of the fight seems to be avoiding damage and manipulating jokers position.

Yeah, I'm not worrying about a single second - that'll be moot if I can't no-death the game.

How are you doing, btw?  Are you going to stun the world with some crazy 10 minute run...???

You guys are summing up, what I do think, is essential to tackle this challenge correctly!

Okish. I haven't tried to do a lot of full game runs. I've mostly been doing save states practice to make sure I know how to do everything while taking minimal damage. (you can do save states without an emulator using an everdrive. I'm not going to switch to the actual cart until I'm doing the timed runs.) At this point I feel confident I can get to level 4 with a handful of tries. I'm definitely not going for 10 minute pace strats. I'm using all the easiest and consistent strats I can find.

@mbd39 this game is really good. I never got past stage 2 as a child. I played it decent tonight. Got to 4-3 boss gonna take some time to learn a pattern.

i love NG3….it’s early but Batman is holding its own.

I don't think I've gotten past stage 2 as an adult. I can actually finish Ninja Gaiden III, but it's insanely difficult.
