zeppelin03 | 314
I got GTA III not long after it came out. I would have been 12 I think. Before that was GoldenEye and Perfect Dark when they both came out.

Even the OG on 3DO has an M rating I can't say I played enough of this game to see all the content, but you never really see humans on screen or anything. I know there's a lot of trash talk going on so maybe there's heavy cursing in the comments and cutscenes? I don't remember. Definitely no titties...unfortunately
Tanooki | 4,952
Yeah MK was the console equal of Doom that will bring down the pillars of civilization corrupting anyone it touched. Hah. 1
Alder | 243
My aunt and uncle got me Perfect Dark, it was my first FPS, and pretty violent for 9-year-old me to have crossbow bolts and throwing knives able to stick into peoples' heads. Excellent game. I also played Mortal Kombat but I don't remember any controversy surrounding it by the late 90s. I didn't like Mortal Kombat anyway and the violence seemed so over-the-top that it was basically a cartoon. I played GTA Vice City on the Xbox a few years later, still haven't jacked a car or ran over anyone in real life. Hell, I didn't even get my license until I was 23. Maybe it had the opposite effect.

UMK3 (arcade) is still one of my personal favorites to this day.

The only reason I could get past the age check measurements question was because I knew the song "Brickhouse"
Hammerfestus | 3,889
As a lad I had a recorded Mortal Kombat movie VHS. One day I went to pop that guy in and wouldn’t you know it — someone had recorded Species over most of the movie. That was a good day.

I remember borrowing a taped-from-TV copy of Bloodsport from my neighbor, and loving every second of it. Especially the lousy cuts/edits around the commercials .

I remember figuring out that you could beat the CPU ladder by pressing start on controller two, and then having player two select whichever character you were just facing. This little "cheat" blew my mind, lmao.
RegularGuyGamer | 2,018
I was in 4th grade when I got a PSX and my dad got me 3 games. Golf, Raiden Project and Doom. Needless to say, I wasn't ready for Doom. He let us rent Duke Nukem too and I never forgot the strippers you could tell, "Shake em, baby."

I had a very similar experience but it was Doom 32X in 4th grade. We'd play late at night with the lights out and the sound design was very effective at scaring the crap out of me. Code Monkey | 2,014
I'm way too old for this thread. I came in here expecting to hear about Playaround games on the Atari 2600 and you guys are talking about Grand Theft Auto. I guess I was a young teenager when I played Doom, Mortal Kombat and Phantasmagoria.
