Master thread with standings

Ratings key:
10 - One of your very favorite artists of all time.
9 - Killer fucking band.  Or artist.
8 - Great sound, great songs, great albums.
7 - Very good, but not quite great.
6 - Pretty good.  More than a few songs you like.  You'd entertain the thought of seeing them live if they were in the area.  Or still alive.
5 - They're okay, but maybe not something you'll go out of your way to listen to.
4 - Meh.  There may be a song or two, or an album that you dig, but you'd rather listen to other stuff.
3 - Not very good.  You will more likely than not turn the station if they come on the radio.
2 - Not your cup of tea at all.  Some people like this, but you are not one of them.
1 - Horrible in every way.
0 - In the running for worst artist/musician of all time.  You would rather take a cheese grater to your face than listen to this.

It’s a hipster thing to hate on the Beatles now days. They might not have been the best musicians of their era, but their songwriting still holds up against nearly everyone. Their output in such a small amount of years is pretty crazy, especially since it varies so much sonically from the start to the finish.

Beatles? Maybe a 3.

Now, The Monkees?  There's a band for you. They were a major influence on The Beatles.

Solid 2. They have like 3 listenable songs but for the most part they only became popular because everyone was on so much lcd and acid they didn't know any better. And as James pointed out, The monkees they were not.

Now George harrisons solo stuff in the 80s that's the froots!

Can we ban the Colorado contingent for tone deafness?

The Beatles were good, but have been historically overrated.  Were they an important band? Certainly! Should they still be considered the greatest rock band of all time? Nope.

5/10.

Please explain.  The Beatles are not even arguably, the most influential band of all time.  Between songwriting, lyrics, arrangement, music videos, album concepts, recording techniques.

They're a 10.  You dont have to like em (which for some songs, I can understand.  Some horrible throw aways and terrible songs) but anyone that dismisses their historical impact is incredibly ignorant especially within music.  The countless music and artists they inspired is insane.  I also say they were the first prog band (listen to a song from 1963, then 1967) and see how much they changed.  Also 17 number one hits in only 6 years in the US?  C'mon.  Stop foolin yourselves.  As someone that takes music seriously, its almost insulting.

If you took a little out of their song writing and put it into musicianship (better guitar, vocals etc) you'd get Queen.
