tournament 2023 VGS NES Weekly Contest - Tournament Round 2

Ladies and gentlemen, it is with pleasure that we present you the SECOND ROUND OF THE 2023 VGS NES WEEKLY CONTEST TOURNAMENT!!!

@guillavoie and I will be your host through this round!

Our 8 brave warriors below proved that they have the smarts for puzzle and the mettle to beat opponents to a puddle in our first round.

For this round, they will have to show their flying skills at GALAGA and shooting skills at COMMANDO!!!

For this tournament round, each game will award points in the following fashion:

1st: 7
2nd: 5
3rd: 4
4th: 3
5th: 2
6th: 1
7th and 8th: 0

The rules for Galaga are as follow:

• Play till stage 31 or till game over
• Pause the game when you game over or when you reach stage 31 to take your picture
• If you reached stage 31, add 30,000 points to your score for every extra life you have, and 30,000 for the double ship if you have it.
• Getting the double ship is allowed
• Highest progress wins. Highest score will be the tie breaker
• Highest progress will be defined by stage number.
• Genre: Shooter

And the rules for Commando are:

• Play 1 player mode
• Play till stage 2-1 or till you lose your first life
• Pause the game when you lose your first life
• Highest progress wins. Lowest score will be the tie breaker
• Highest progress will be determined using the following maps: https://nesmaps.com/maps/Commando/Commando.html
• Genre: Arcade

The contest ends Sunday, 12/03/23 at 11 PM VGS time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun.

You can get the double ship. You need to stop playing after you die for the first time.

Just for the sake of complete clarity, if you get double ship and then get hit and lose one of the two ships, does that count as a death or do you actually have to "die" in the sense that it resets the enemy formation and respawns your ship?  Which is it:

A - Double ship down to one ship is when you stop and take a picture, or
B - Double ship down to losing both and respawning is when you stop and take your picture?

Have you ever seen him in a tournament?  One year, he couldn't get past the very first enemy he saw in the overworld of Challenger.  Skinny playing Boulder Dash... seriously???  He's awesome at shooters, I'll give him that, but come on, man...

Either way, reserved for score...

Losing both and respawning is when you stop and take your picture. You have to die and pause after the "ready" for your next life,

There was once a time when I wasnt too bad at Galaga. Unfortunately, I played last night and quickly remembered that time was like 10 years ago.
