  1. Largely that's where I went without just throwing the 90s classic comment of speed over style, one trick pony over the ability to do much. Mario showed how that format worked better as the generations rolled on, and into then into 3D. Then you see Sonic it plateaued early, and then with 3D did they try, but after a couple adventures it was a big decline because again they wanted to make it all originally about snark attitude and speed over well investigation and discovery making them almost optional. When they tried to correct that in 3D or even the GBA/DS stuff largely the games got more and more panned for dumb ideas, half baked ideas, you remember the reviews...it just didn't work, Sonic basically pigeonholed itself into a stereotype of itself it never could escape. Sonic Team did great, but even they bailed out after not too terribly long.
  2. I feel oddly compelled to own this, but I think it suits @fcgamer maybe just a bit more.
  3. It's not garbage, but it is overrated as a shooter quite a lot. You can do far better, but because it's Square, it gets kind of a pass I think which is a shame. I've owned it a couple times over the years, and each time I had to let the playstation go, it wasn't one I clung onto until the end, and the last time I've owned or will own a PS1 I didn't bother at all as that price given what is there is utterly unjustified.
  4. For better or worse the high point of the main line franchise really which is a shame being so early on from 2D into 3D too. It hit this great balance of stage design, while not having an over-reliance on speed to the point of funking out the exploration to make it really worth the ride. A solid balance of enemy placement, challenge, and bosses too. One could also give credit for that solid split screen with Tails as well, a nice touch. Sonic 3 was almost as nice as was S&K but while maybe obviously a little more colorful/detailed and audio a bit nicer too, but the rest, just a notch below, shoot I prefer Sonic Pocket Adventure(NGPC) more. Sadly in the end Sonic as a mascot was more of a one trick pony that overly relied on speed and not rocking the boat much, really little at all. The only time they really got into trying more variety was in 3D and well we know how that went downhill really fast. This isn't be burning on it, because one could argue as a come back Mario was too, but at least the stage varieties, suits/costumes, and the rest varied far more even if it was just another save the princess run yet again so it felt fresher even when it wasn't. Sonic just felt like one long run on sentence in mascot gaming, but it was Sega, so it had more behind it than many third party mistakes, misfires, or even good but overlooked due to the washout of so many at one time it blurred.
  5. A few days ago I found for $4 the Rovin orange book for How to Win at SNES games. I used to have a couple of the NES ones and it's like night and day on quality. A real difference a couple years made as the writing in this one isn't utterly immature and to the point of humor bad, and the actual material matches the game and is put in a very well written way about it all. I've only skimmed a few games so far and the coverage is fantastic with solid depth of detail, then at the end you get like a few categories with a letter grade assigned and another little bit under each why it got that. I'm looking to grab the same era Genesis(has a few TG games) one too as I think it would be a fun bit of discovery and perhaps the Game Boy one would be too.
  6. Ahh nice Silent Scope, don't see that often on either side of the pond. For what it is it was done very well given you don't get to use a light gun (or stylus if it were on DS) which is kind of surprising. On thursday I did a weekly check of a store/two when my kid has her long day at sports thing I can't stay at the whole time, got lucky. Dropped $15 got World of Illusion for Genesis, another store then for $10/ea got Metropolis(Tezuka) bluray and Ecco the Dolphin. My genesis library is steadily growing largely from local luck, but I think until more pushes up from the wild I've cleaned out the usual spaces for now.
  7. I've got the whole series of the regular 8 in excellent shape (cards too) just don't have the 2 big ones, baseball is a rare one to find and mega man I just didn't bother. The step down from laughable ot junior is a bit much trying to read it, kind of painfully bad.
  8. I have the NES, SNES and Gameboy books they did, very high quality stuff with a nice healthy selection of games with a good box art if not a gameplay image or two along with a decent writeup for the page dedicated to it. There are a few other random sections too to break it up with other history or good facts to dig around.
  9. Square started to bloat and go off the rails that far back, they were just a little more hit and miss, maybe caught up a bit too much in creating in game drama (and their real life drama leading to the merger) with CGI, multi-cd sound tracks, weird sequences and stuff and going too far with being creative with franchises. SNES/SFC had the better run up of titles domestic and foreign, they may not be CDs, they may not be 3D, but design wise they had limits far smaller than the PS generation after and learned to respect them far better and go hard and do more with less. They did so with such capability the games still stand up to the test of time today and are more memorable on the Nintendo stuff too. I'm not saying it's a knockout or wide margin, but there was a bit of a slide, a bit of trying to show off or working with new limitations, whatever the case was.
  10. Ugh...seriously, retro(sh)bit then aren't they. No excuse for breaking that at all considering what group they're pandering to that's a line crossed in the sand on that. I had been considering something of theirs, not as much that one (now not at all) but the R-Type 3 bundle since the real one price sucks. I find I'm just not trusting some of these companies anymore with shoddy products and/or sketchy delivery antics. It's getting to where it's just not worth the stupid stuff.
  11. This is a nice day for classic fun in the mail and local too. I had a trade/mail package come in with 3 fun classic Famicom games, and I'm happy to have recovered Armadillo, Goonies is a multicart gem and Goemon is goemon. The stuff above goemon, empty shells for use as replacements. I went to this one shop that's over a 30min drive away as there is nothing but way indirect routes in town, known the old owner for over a decade so I only go a few times a year when time allows. He did a nice solid on that Genesis stuff, got it all for $70, sadly it appears LHX is dead, dead enough to lock up both my Nomad and Mega Sg which is nuts. Any idea what would cause a Genesis game to lock up on a black screen just after boot??? I really wanted to play LHX. Very happy either way, that white cart looks fun but it's hard. Mega Bomberman is a gem, missed that PCE game (Bomberman94) so that's a solid return, and Rastan is solid as is Sonic Spinball too (screw the haters it's fun.)
  12. What he said there, no...each payment processor (not your bank) has a 600 cap before they tell the IRS. The only thing I could think of is if you used paypal/venmo as your 'bank' on sites that allow it, because they do watch for the 600 cap for all processed transactions listed as goods and services. They do NOT track friends and family flagged transactions. That's why I brought that up in the earlier post, because if you could get people on here who trusted you to send you money and you went over $600 on paypal, as long as those people used F&F and not G&S you're in the clear. I mean they might catch on if the tool writes 'thanks for the super famicom and 10 games dude' as that's likely not friends and family, that's a payoff.
  13. Each site reported 100% individually, they don't collude to sell you out to the IRS for a tax form. It's not their job, and they don't care as long as THEY stay legal and them alone. So if you use ebay and tie that to your bank, then it's $600 gross on ebay that's it. If you use Mercari and that one gets paypal, then it's another $600 gross on paypal for the year. And if you have a facebook marketplace account tied to an online only checking acct (because of ebay bs last year) +600 ...and so on. As long as each place you use never cracks $600 and where the money get funneled does not overlap, you're set. Once any, combo, or all go over $600 each entity will issue you a 1099 and notifies the IRS about it. To me it's a hassle. I'm glad we're finally digging out and I don't feel the need to 50/50 buy and flip to stay above board on random rarer months where shit hit the fan or just so I could even have a hobby at all over a period of 10 years. I can't prove I got an item 10minute or 10 years ago, no receipts, so anything I may have always owned or not will get bitchslapped with a tax bill which I find disgusting and unacceptable. They should have set a 5k or 10k cap for individual non-business owners, a sensible here and there, garage sale, whatever slush fund cap...but hey, look who passed it, tax n' spend right? Just go all cash and local, make online exceptions for friends on a trusted site like here where both will be fine sending cash, money orders, or friends and family on paypal...or save that small cap to pay for postages and trade difference gaps. I've sold like 1200 in stuff or so this year locally in cash, guarantee you with the 600 cap on ebay I would have made the same, maybe slightly less. Screw that, not worth the hassle of either losing my refund or guesstimating and paying the IRS quarterly to guard from that since I'd have to call everything profit when I guarantee you at this rate, it's break even or a loss given what is going out now.
  14. Ooof LRG is handling it eh? I guess it's nice they worked that one out given the licenses involved there, but for $60 and a likely 1yr turn around I'd probably just squat on finding a deal on an original, or grab a clone off ali for like $10.
  15. Last time I posted Arceus was it. Looking forward now it's a shell of a year between the TMNT Collection package and then Shredder's Revenge. With Zelda, Metroid, other notables looking to be 2023 stuff unless something changes, there's nothing I really care to look forward to unless something pops up I really want to mess with. I'm even largely ignoring LRG now as I see they're just largely preying on people with there re-releases and no refund antics because stuff coming along so so SOOO much later than reasonable I'm finding once stuff does arrive I don't give a shit anymore (anyone want to buy me out of Strife sealed?) So for me, what I'm looking forward to -- My SuperNt and MegaSg(just got it last week) and the games I've either never played before (largely Sega side) or stuff I've missed for at least 10-15 years. I know that's a cheat, so be it...old can be new.
  16. Yes, they don't care if it's shipping included or tacked on. The total amount that comes in (winning big, shipping(or shipped), taxes, FVF) it's all rolled into a grand total they tell the IRS over $600. So if you sell something that heavy/insured, that's your loss. It's a big reason I haven't put a single item on there this year at all because I really don't want to bean count out what they'll report vs what I'll get. I probably eventually will do a few specific items worth a decent amount not worth dumping locally, but I'm in no rush.
  17. Yes it's showing up, and your post keeps tempting me but it starts to add up.
  18. LRG did in fact later last week ship out STRIFE for the Switch, I had it pop up on Saturday. To be honest I'm to the point I'm kind of put off by their bs, and with the Mega SG showing up and a bunch of Super Famicom games I just tossed it sealed on a chair(still there.) Anyone want it? Not like I can't play it on PC anyway. I put a few hours into those old(new to me) games that day instead and it was great. My kid bandited my copy of Kirby I got belated for the birthday and I guess you can finish it but keep going for more, she was into the more but took this week off for the bunny day week event on animal crossing. I should go back to it whenever she moves along.
  19. Yes it is that. The $600 comes from any form of digital payment, and it's not like Paypal talks to cashapp and they talk to facebook market who rats you out to Mercari. Ebay etc reports the full amount not what you get after expenses. They're assholes. They report totality of what is collected to the IRS. They report the final amount the buyer sends you which includes taxes, final value fees, shipping, everything.) So if you sold an item for $100 but it was $15 shipping and then the FVF and taxes on top push it to $120, they report $120 not $100. Personally if I shoved items on ebay this year I'd stop once I hit like $450 because they're dicks. Technically if I wanted to and I did look into it, I could spend up to a point on ebay since that went into an online only checking acct, and then I could spend up to another 600 and take payments into paypal(which is also venmo) and nearly double the intake before getting 1099k forms. If either or both went over 600 then I'd get a 1099k from ebay and another from paypal. Furthermore, on digital, if you're using paypal, etc if you use friends and family it's not tracked either, they only report those done as goods and services. I wasn't certain but made a friend recently who does a lot of minor to hardcore console recovery and repair work and has an online business with it. He looked into it because he didn't want to be doing friends and family trades or favors or getting like split bills on rents/util and getting screwed so that's how I know that one now when I couldn't figure it out when we talked a lot about this last year. Personally I closed up shop on ebay as I said I would, it's done, until someone can figure this shit out, correct the insulting low rate, or auto-collect the taxes up front as it's not worth the headache and losses. I just jumped to facebook and cash only or digital F&F payments if necessary and given what I have offloaded this year around here I've done fairly nicely with that because it's more desirable stuff, but it is a headache since FB people tend to be time wasting wafflers. When I get the cash I just take it to my bank, then after clear move it into paypal, and then into my actual online account which takes over a week which sucks but it is what it is. I'm not selling regularly anymore, not worth it, and if something isn't more desirable I'll just take it to game exchange as the one here seems to give like 50% in cash and 60 in credit (far better than the gamestop like rates at half price.)
  20. They can't, because they're using a drop shipper only THEY start and finish the end game on the item. They will get the item and ebay as far as they're concerned, if the shipper doesn't complain about defects or shipping damage basically put it on the one skirting domestic sales to run the gamble. It's the only reason when I was selling on ebay why I allowed that or I would have refunded and banned anyone trying it as it's sketchy as far as I'm concerned as I blocked all sales individually by continent/region/country outside of the US.
  21. Huh you know you're doing it wrong. Since they took responsibility for feeding the cat, it's also responsibility for what leaves the cat. Don't let people track that on their cars into their garage, they didn't shit in your yard... if you're throwing, lob it into their driveway and grass, front door, discretely so you're not caught. Hell if you are, fine, go to the board meeting with recordings of them feeding the turd bakers and creating the issue in the first place with strays.
  22. According to sega retro 11/3/92 is the date that game came to retail in two regions, so unless that sticker has the backwards(non US standard) date system I'm kind of wondering how that's Beta 1, that's the earliest state out of alpha. Could that be a coincidental March build? I'd be just a little nervous of that being a finished version with just stupid text put to it by EA being lazy about it. I don't do these but is $450 even at this rate reasonable or low or are we high at this rate with all the questions with no way to get answers?
  23. We technically have one, it's only a little ($25~) a month for general maintenance and all that of the lights, streets, and hedge stuff out front in various exits. There was this one a-hole across the street who liked to troll the rules over petty shit like flat to the ground tree stumps, he would go around and look for issues in his car and then behind the back whine about it being on the board at the meetings to get warnings and fines sent doing petty harassment. I know it's cruel saying it, but the best thing ever to happen was watching the result (he's kind of across the street from me) have a big stroke and heart problem, now he's slowly recovering but needs general help with a few things still and had been using a walker now just on a cane. He stopped going about trolling the neighbors. We had a tree die that we felled well flat to the ground, wanted to use it as a platform for a garden and he wouldn't have it, now we have a big dent in the yard as the half dead thing was 60+ years old.
  24. I'd love to display some stuff forward, but I live with a control freak of a wife who can't seem to respect personal space entirely, she thinks I have too much stuff, even after offloading well more than 1/2 of it (2/3?), it's still too much. Most my gaming stuff that remains game wise sits in that drawer the cubes below, an entertainment rack with the systems, and then a Propac 5ft by 5ft 21 shelf media shelf and an as wide shelf above it. She's on this Kondo trip of be a nomad, if you don't use it, lose it. I'm fed up with it, problem is the twat who owned this house before me decided to remove the door with a lock for a 90s (early) style asinine open (double door wide) arch into the main room. Unless you're in the kitchen you can't see much, even then I've put most to the front of the room so you need to enter to see it other than 2 tiny wall shelves with a few items and the Neo Geo. Fucks me off having hoarder thrown around when we know the actual definition of that one. Given my choice, had I door, with a lock(key) I'd keep everyone the fuck out and have a standing display like the one in the last post and I'd put some shelves back get the few console boxes I have out too (only NES/SNES are now since the consoles are in it and the closet isn't temp controlled well.) Yup...rant, still clearly ticks me off.
  25. @Mega Tank I went with angry but I was so tempted to use eyeroll on that. Mafia tactics is quite right. I like seeing when they get sued and destroyed online, a good one while not visual is rSlash on youtube who verbalizes reddit crap as I've seen some epic HOA takedowns.
