  1. 10. One of my favorite games ever. Controls are nearly flawless, with the special weapon usage on stairs being the only real blemish. The game is amazingly fun to pick up and play with a lot of challenge to be had. Level design is excellent and affords some nice secrets and optional risks for rewards. The weapons are varied and you are rewarded for holding onto them and using them by powering them up, although the holy water is overpowered (I tend not to use it for that reason, kills some of the challenge). The graphics are excellent, especially for an NES game of its era. The setting is classic and affords fun enemies to fight. And of course, the sounds and music are just some of the best in any game ever, with no weak tracks and level three being my favorite music of any NES game.
  2. Those of us foolish enough to pay money towards Bloodstained's development can answer several years.
  3. Ooh, people said Marble Madness and Street Fighter II, those are definitely on my top list. In fact, Marble Madness may be at the very top as it's another game I got back when it was new and played constantly for score.
  4. I'd wager I've beaten Castlevania more than 100 times, although I haven't kept track. Got it new more than 30 years ago and have played it through often, including on other formats (GBA re-release, Switch CV collection game, etc.). After that it's hard to say, perhaps NBA Hangtime, Contra, Super C, Mega Man 2 and DuckTales would all be close.
  5. Shadow Dancer has an excellent bonus stage where you jump off a skyscraper and take out ninjas on your way down. Music is awesome too.
  6. The Final Fight bonus stage where you destroy a car and then the owner comes out afterwards and says "Oh my God!" is pretty fun
  7. It's just a shame it never took off and Nintendo was unable to effectively promote it. Games like Nintendoland showed a real promise of new gameplay experiences, and that's something I'm interested in. Quite frankly, I'm no longer interested in slight graphical upgrades to the same games again and again (sometimes literally), which is why I don't see the attraction of PS4/5 and XB1/whatever the new one is called.
  8. I watched the Pawn Stars episode. It had a lot more than I expected, making sure to point out that NES homebrew is a thing. I can see an influx of interest from this that homebrewers will surely be happy about.
  9. 5. Green Hill Zone has some of the best graphics on the Genesis and the game as a whole has a wonderful soundtrack and sound design in general. I did beat the game, but I doubt I'd bother again. The gameplay falls flat. Green Hill is great for running fast, but you can't see where you're going unless you have the level memorized. In later levels doing that gets you killed, and so you slow down. When you go slow, starting from Marble Zone, it's an average platforming game. I never was very impressed even back in the day. I'd already played far superior Genesis games by the time Sonic came out, things like Ghouls N Ghosts and Revenge of Shinobi and Shining Force. Compared to a lot of Sega games of that era Sonic just isn't very good. Historic, yes (especially the "SEGA" on turning the game on, unique and quite cool at the time). Fun to play, middling. Lots of better Genesis games than this.
  10. NBA Hangtime = N64 wins. Mario Tennis and Mario Golf are notable as well for their excellence, as is Wave Race, not even counting Mario Kart!
  11. It would be incredibly difficult with the NES to limit the list to 50. I feel I'd be leaving out some games I rate 9/10 and that is pretty harsh. I could easily make a list of 300 NES games and feel they were all good games as well. SNES Is easier, but still very hard. I don't rate snoozefests like Final Fantasy and similar games, so probably I'd be down in the 8/10 or even 7/10 games by the time I reached 50 on the list.
  12. 9/10, one of my all-time favorites. Loved almost everything about it since I got one on launch day (I wanted purple, but had to settle for black...). First games were Luigi's Mansion, Rogue Squardron II, and Super Monkey Ball - I think I did all right! Amazing three games, especially RS2 blew me away with the amazing visuals, sound, and most importantly very challenging and satisfying gameplay. Follow that up with Super Smash Bros. Melee, a game we played combined multiplayer and single player probably thousands upon thousands of hours. Absolutely iconic. Came out less than a month after the system launched! And still played in tournaments to this day. I've always loved the controller, Gameboy Player, unique small discs, amazing Wavebird wireless controllers, and the slew of great games. It always has outpaced the PS2 and Xbox by a large distance in my view. Only annoying thing is the memory cards!
  13. I still love the Atari VCS (aka 2600). If you don't mind short games, blocky graphics and no music, you can have a lot of fun. If you have 10 minutes to play something Cosmic Ark or 2-player Air-Sea Battle is always a blast, for example. There are plenty of amazing games for the system to choose from as well, it's just that most of them are fundamentally different than many of the most popular NES-era games. As for the NES-N64 comparison, honestly, I love N64, but NES graphics were always better. The foggy blocky polygonal worlds of most N64 games always looked awful to me. There are a few sprite-based games that look good and some polygon-based games that are better than others, but to me SMB3 graphics>>>SM64 graphics any day.
  14. Wii U didn't have great games? Most of the top-selling games for Switch are repackaged Wii U games! I think more that people didn't buy the system and thus didn't buy the games, not that it has a bad library (because it has a great library).
  15. PS2 is a decent system. Much better than PS1 for sure. I mean, not in the top 15 systems for me, or maybe at 14-15, so nowhere near GOAT (that is NES, of course). Too many of the lauded PS2 games just aren't very fun to me. I did really enjoy the classic collections available on the system though, and that is the first thing I'd recommend to people new to PS2 - things like Capcom Classics Collection, Taito Legends, etc. For multiplatform games, the PS2 version is rarely the best. There were many of these at the time. Gamecube and Xbox being more powerful systems, their versions often were better. Also the Gamecube library is far better IMO, but that's another discussion.
  16. Pretty sure these were used by a store like Gamestop to create a display encouraging people to preorder the game.
  17. Obviously Nintendo would probably not do it but other companies could. I bought Holy Diver and would buy other games like this that were never brought to the U.S., even if I already have a repro of them. There are tons of Famicom/European games that are worthwhile. Price them at $50 and I believe plenty of people would be interested. $100 and a game that was already released in the U.S., no thanks.
  18. Appreciate the reply. I don't see any creasing. I see on eBay sealed copies that have the regular seam on the back, but also a few that have a seal like this. So maybe they were two different batches of games? Does anyone know of other N64 games sealed this way?
  19. Looks really cool! I hope there will be a way to get it other than via Kickstarter.
  20. Hi all - was digging through some things and found this today. I'm not sure if it's resealed - it was bought new from TRU given the sticker, but they may have opened it in store (or accepted a return) and then resealed it, given the back seal? The corner has a small hole in the wrap. What do you think? I'm not that familiar with how certain N64 games were sealed, or I've forgotten Thanks in advance for your help & opinions.
  21. OK I think this is the new worst I've seen. I guess the ghost isn't that bad, but look at what is supposed to be Pac-Man...apparently he had big buckteeth in this version
  22. Looks like fun... 1943 Adventure Island Battle of Olympus Castlevania (really a tough one since my three favorite NES games start with C - honorable mention to Castlevania III and Contra!) DuckTales Elevator Action Faxanadu Gremlins 2 Heavy Barrel Ice Hockey Journey to Silius Kickle Cubicle Little Nemo the Dream Master Mega Man 2 Ninja Gaiden Operation Wolf Power Blade Qix RBI Baseball 2 Super Mario Bros. 3 (by only a hair over StarTropics!) Tetris (Tengen version) Uncharted Waters Vice: Project Doom Wizards & Warriors Xexyz Yo! Noid Zen Intergalactic Ninja
  23. Love the Wii U getting a new physical game that isn't a throwaway (*ahem* Just Dance). I'd be fine if they wanted to bring over some games from other regions, make physical copies of digital-only games, etc. Just make enough or allow an open preorder so that someone who isn't madly refreshing at XX:XX on the dot with their credit card already inputted can buy them!
