  1. Good advice here. Or you could bump that up a few bucks to a Core Grafx so you'd at least have composite video out. Orrrrrrrrr be extra cool and grab a PCE Duo. Then you could play all the cd stuff as well.
  2. I just mean the gun and book expert respectively that he calls in a similar manner when he has questions about things that are brought in.
  3. 1. Night Stalker: Intellivision - I was that 'one kid' in the neighborhood that didn't have an Atari but had the Intellivision instead. I still don't understand why this console didn't compete better, I think it's infinitely better than the 2600 but anywho....my first console and although I didn't have a stone cold favorite, I still wanted to choose something from the library. Going with Night Stalker here, still fun to this day and the first time I can ever remember being scared playing a video game. The way the music speeds up when the robot is closing in got this little 5 year old's heart rate going. 2. Yie Ar Kung Fu: Arcade - I spent many a birthday party at Major Magics, a Chuck E. Cheese clone in Toledo, OH. Tokens were limited of course so when I was running low I had to find a game where I could make them last. So I'd look for this trusty Konami cab whenever I only had a couple tokens left. I could usually cycle through all the enemies twice before finally giving in, I only learned later on that most people considered this game hard. Not the most popular game ever, but looking back it was instrumental in establishing the 1 v 1 fighter. 3. Super Mario Bros: NES - I know, crazy right? Moving on..... 4. Zelda II The Adventure of Link: NES - We had a cottage up in Canada on Lake Huron where we'd spend roughly half our summers. Activities were primarily consisting of 'beach stuff' but after a couple of years of begging, my mom finally agree to let us take the NES with us. But each trip we were only allowed to take one game (I can only assume she thought that would limit our time on the machine). Outside of one terrible decision to take Racket Attack, Zelda II was always our choice. At the start I imagine we were trying to choose a game that was the longest, but after a while it kind of just became our 'Canada game'. This was long before game hours got logged in any meaningful way but I'm betting I've spent more time on this one than any other Zelda game. 5. Dungeon Explorer: Turbografx-16 - Another example of being 'that one kid' in the neighborhood, I was the only one I knew that owned a turbografx when it was released. Made for a lonely time in the lunchroom but that probably (irrationally) enhanced my resolve and love for the console. One of the games we got for Christmas in 1989 was Dungeon Explorer. For the first time ever there were 4 of us playing a game together at home, just like TMNT in the arcade. Which, if you weren't around for the arcades at that time you really can't underscore how much fun the teamwork/urgency part of those games were. It's similar to Gauntlet for sure but to lazily describe it as a such does it a disservice. Still the best chip tunes on any game I've ever heard. 6. Street Fighter II The World Warrior: Arcade - I once heard a guy say "people who can't play Street Fighter, play Zelda". Ridiculous on the surface but there is a bit of truth to that. When SFII dropped in arcades it was kill or be killed in a way that had never really been done before. You weren't just playing to beat the other guy, you were playing to keep playing. Lose and you could kiss your quarter (and your turn in line) goodbye. 7. Kings Quest VI Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow: PC - one of 2 computer games to make the list. I loved the Sierra point and clicks, Kings Quest, Quest for Glory, Police Quest, LSL, etc... I played this one more than any of them. The alternate solutions to the puzzles upped the replay value considerably. 8. The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time: N64 - Probably my favorite game ever? Hard to say for sure but the big N absolutely nailed the transition to 3D in this straight up Masterpiece. The thing that's become my favorite part of the Zelda series is the transition from one phase to the next that allows you to view the same world in a new way. Light/Dark world in LttP, Big/Small in Minish Cap, and Young/Old in OoT. This game nails it in every possible way. 9. Civilization II Gold Multiplayer Edition: PC - The sweet spot between rts and a management sim, now with multiplayer! My college roommates and I spent hours playing this one in 'hotseat' mode. Basically one player would take their turn, hit end, and then leave the room so the next guy could come in and take his turn. Sounds cumbersome but when some broke college kids couldn't do the lan party thing this was a welcome option. Anytime we were too broke to hit the bars we would stay in and play this....so you know, all the time. 10. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild: Wii U (that's right, Wii U) - A game I fully expect to take the top spot in my all time list a few years from now. There's just so much awesomeness packed in here, I could never relay how good it is in a paragraph or two. The little nods here and there to the past games in the series are probably my favorite part and I could spend forever just looking at the map. If it was a little bit harder (or maybe if deaths were more penal) it would be a perfect video game in my book. If you've yet to play yet, do yourself a favor and grab it asap.
  4. I've only completed the N64 and ISS 2000 was my last game. It was also definitely the toughest or one I looked for the longest, they're just harder to find in good shape than their availability would suggest.
  5. I've got Bust a move 3, Die Hard Trilogy, and NFL 97 if you still need em.
  6. Everyone who wants to defeat the spirit of the question should be including the NEC manufactured Laseractive. Can play Sega CD, Genesis, Turbografx, and Turbo CD....u.s. and jp.
  7. I've been asking this question since this started, so I don't have a good answer. However @DefaultGen bringing up Ty Cobb reminds me of one of my favorite movie quotes ever. Louis Prima : With all the great players playing ball right now, how well do you think you would do against today's pitchers? Ty Cobb : Well, I figure against today's pitchers I'd only probably hit about .290 Louis Prima : .290? Well that's amazing, because you batted over .400 a... a whole bunch of times. Now tell us all, we'd all like to know, why do you think you'd only hit .290? Ty Cobb : Well, I'm 72 fucking years old you ignorant son of a bitch.
  8. If you like Dragon Spirit on the NES you'll love it on the Turbografx. The sequel Dragon Saber is solid on the PC Engine as well.
  9. To me, shooters are essentially the purest form of a video game, or an evolution of it at least. Which is to say kill stuff and don't get killed. And since shooting things was exponentially more satisfying than jumping on/over them, those were games I gravitated to in the arcades. So I'd be more likely to play Galaga and Asteroids, than Donkey Kong or Pac-Man. Then Konami's Time Pilot came out as sort of a bridge between the multi-directional game I think you're describing and the Xevious/Gradius more traditional model that was prevalent for years afterwards. Progress to the end of a level, defeat a boss, start a new level.
  10. This is my main problem with them. Otherwise, If you know/trust the person running them well enough then the raffle itself should be ok. I don't mind buying a lottery ticket for something if the total money taken in is commensurate with the value of it.
  11. Don't worry if you aren't good at these two, they're hard as balls. Most of my favorites are on the Turbo/PCE, a few of them are..... Final Solider Lords of Thunder Sapphire Spriggan W-Ring Rayxanber II Override Star Parodier (if you like Parodius check this one out) Sylphia No exaggeration, I could probably name another 30 that I enjoy. If you like shooters you owe it to yourself to check out this library. As far as non turbo goes, I will always consider Radiant Silvergun special, and I've really been into Mars Matrix lately.
  12. Yeah the assessments given by gun guy and book girl are now instantly worse.
  13. I don't have anything super grail-ey. But if I ever had to sell everything the last things to go would be my cib Turbografx CD and my sealed Ocarina of Time, one of the only things to survive the great purge of 2008.
  14. That was the story at the time in 2005 when he left Utah. Everyone thought it was a foregone conclusion he was going to Notre Dame because it was his 'dream job', apparently even ND was shocked he went to Florida and had to go to Weiss as plan B. That's just how I remember the media portraying it at the time at least. I've always wondered if Kelly still would've left Cinci if they had gotten into the BCS championship game that year.
  15. Nice, that's a Tallmadge institution. Not sure how old his kids are but my impression of him is he just goes so hard at his job he gets burned out quick and needs to recharge. I have this theory/joke that he'll try to win a championship in each conference. So USC next year till however long that takes....quit, come back at Texas to knock out the Big 12, then on to FSU to check off the ACC, and finally close the show as an independent at Notre Dame which by all accounts has always been his dream job.
  16. I'd bet a bazillion dollars he coaches again someday, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's next year. Also, you're in Canton? Tallmadge here baby!
  17. Double Dragon II on the PC Engine for those sweet cutscenes. Honorable mention to Double Dragon Advance on the GBA
  18. This is along my line of thinking as well but I've been wrong before haha. Will be interesting for sure
  19. Your 6 year old made these? I can't even get mine to tie his shoes. Very cool, welcome!
  20. Mine is the flag of the Blue Rogues, the air pirates from Skies of Arcadia
  21. Welcome home, vgs is off to a good start I'd say. Have any dreamcast extras?
  22. I have to disagree with your disagreement. Hangtabs have always been thing, stickers have not, and from my perspective most cib collectors really just cared about getting non rev-a versions if there were both. I'm embarrassed to say I didn't even realize there were two different types of stickers before this craziness happened, I thought they were all the same. Clearly I'm not the most knowledgable collector ever, but I've been around a long time and that's kind of the point. I can't recall any WTB posts from people looking for these, they weren't being discussed like 5 screw variants or tracked like NWC's (why not if they're as rare as everyone claims), etc.... I'm not doubting you've always cared about them, and others have as well. But when you say 'a lot of us' I have to assume your interpretation of lot is much smaller than mine.
