  1. I'm surprised battery swaps are considered even a tiny bit controversial. The appeal in owning a cart is being able to play it (even if eventually the owner doesn't find the time to play it), and that can't be done without the battery being replaced.
  2. I'm the younger brother (of two), and each of us had the different version of the game. Somehow it never came to my mind that I can take his cart and trade all his pokemon for a bunch of level 2 Rattatas. Really, I was such a douche and my brother was much calmer, nicer, and more responsible then I was. So I really imagine it like something I could do (I'm a much better person now-days). Edit: Now I recall that while we had two games we had only one gameboy we shared. All the trades and battles I did only with other kids. So that explain why I didn't ruin my brothers save file.
  3. One thing I always think when people try out gen-1 games years later - you also have to take into account the social aspect of it. That is, everyone was playing, sharing rumors, battling with each other via the link cable, trading.... You don't just level up your team for the fun of it, you also level them up so you'll beat other kids.
  4. 1. Stickers removed (e.g. owner's name, used store price tag, etc.) 2. Pest infestation (e.g. termites) Now let me ask you another question - how come so many disc based games get separated from their case? Really, I don't get it, why the hell would anyone do that? (say, dvd case, because if it's a jewel case, all right, these are very fragile)
  5. Late posting, but I stumbled upon this awesome twitter account. The horror might be triggering for some of you. https://twitter.com/AbusedGames Some exhibits:
  6. gen-1 all the way! As much as I recognize the sequels are better games, nothing comes close to my enjoyment of a replay of red. I only played gen 1-3 but I'm pretty certain the others won't change my opinion lol Why wait a year or two when you can start right now?
  7. Not stupid, genius. Sounds like she found a cool way to slack off.
  8. Stuff I got in February. gba games: ngc games: other random stuff, including a Japanese ags-101 that unfortunately needs a screen replacement, a manual I was missing for sma3/smw2, and the post from from metroid 2:
  9. Can we talk about (not sealed) gcn games for a moment? It seems like prices increased to crazy levels over the last one and half year. But here is one game with ridiculous prices: Mario Party 4. According to price charting currently it goes for $90-ish cib (and this seems true for me, after browsing ebay). Three months ago it was $65-ish. Before 2020 it was $35-ish. This is the 7th best selling game on the gcn, and pal copies sell for less then half. Market manipulation anybody?
  10. Not only that, I think also there is a lot more culture of second hand buying and selling (outside of only retro). You have large chain stores for used consumer goods, and I guess people tend to take better care of their stuff because they know they can probably trade it ounce they are done.
  11. I don't collect xbox at all, but I do remember once seeing a nice jp-only game which is a mech sim where you play as the president of the US fighting terrorist and stuff inside a mech. A google search reveals the name is "Metal Wolf Chaos". Awesomely ridiculous!
  12. Exactly, and my favorite system is a handheld and not a home console (the gb/c)
  13. 9/10, but I wouldn't give any home console 10/10 for that matter, so it's maximal. But granted, it's not for everyone. If you hate good games, the system is probably not for you.
  14. It surely will. It will probably hardly be worth the profit for you, but you'll make someone else happy
  15. And it's not even like they do it for the rare-ish stuff. They do it for the high demand popular stuff. At leat for the rare stuff you can claim people will buy it for themselves. But these are exactly the kind of boxes that are ideal for someone looking to scam other people. They cost enough to make worthwhile, and there is a much bigger chance whoever buys them doesn't know what to look for. I think that unlike "regular" counterfeits, the market for this is not collectors with a bad taste, but entrepreneurs (scammers).
  16. Browsing ebay, I've seen there are sellers, mostly from china, offering (presumably) original Nintendo ags-001 screens. For example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Frontlight-AGS-001-LCD-screen-For-Nintendo-Game-Boy-Advance-SP-GBA-SP/352648600207?hash=item521b7e9a8f:g:11UAAOSwqbZdSUDq I'm pretty suspicions of this whole thing. Though they might be OEM (in the real sense of the term), and the sellers do clearly write that these are original, which is a pretty ballsie to do of these actually aren't. Is it legit?
  17. And you'd think blisters on the palm of the hand can only happen to kids taking it too seriously. But I recently played mp1 with friends and we had the agreement not play these cursed mini games with the rotation (main concern was was to prevent damage to the controllers). But when those mini games came up, we still didn't keep our agreement.
  18. This sounds like either pure stupidity, or that the real goal is to limit the import market by slowly chocking it with bureaucracy. Might be both actually.
  19. I always thought it can be a cool experiment to release a collector's edition but put a rickroll video inside instead of the game, just to see how many years pass until someone notices.
  20. Got a cube Also, dug this up from my parents house (not new purchases, but didn't have them with me until now): There should also be a copy of LoZ:WW burried somewhere, unfortunately I couldn't find it.
  21. Yes, the dual language on the box / manual is what made me realize they are Canadian. The novelty is pretty cool if you're not used to seeing it (though honestly I'm 100% ignorant on the whole political and social context of this that you mention). Just wanted to know if the software itself should be the same, as you answered.
