  1. @JVOSS in what direction do they differ from the fair market value? Probably I don't understand the term "fmv".
  2. I personally can't recall a single time I've seen something selling for pennies on the dollar. I've been buying retro games on ebay only on the last 4-5 months but still. I search ebay for stuff I'm I'm looking for several times a week, and optimize my search (BIN+recently listed or auction+ending soon). When a seller sells something for fmv (according to pricecharting / gamevaluenow), I'm happy because it seems most of the time sellers try to sell for 125%-150% of the fmv. I suspect this is because ebay has that algorithm telling sellers how much their items are worth (or so I'm told). Anything on ebay being 80%-90% of the fmv I consider a bargain. Really, in five months of using ebay regularly, I didn't see a single real bargain.
  3. "Rare collector's item" https://www.ebay.com/itm/392877785802?fbclid=IwAR2d4Y3T2eyNxwVioswUO6pL6NS8Ix4YUxDVszQma-TsasO18nTPLyVWDPY
  4. Saw many switch kids on fb posting pics of finishing mario64 for the first time. So I wanted too. (Started friday, played on evenings, finished now. Played many hours as a kid but never even got 70 stars back then.)
  5. Someone has to say the truth: Gameboy - Pokemon And seriously now, for the GB I'm undecided between puzzle and rpg.
  6. One thing to mention is that localized versions most of time are considered different versions of the same game. Even though the changes are almost always much greater then those mentioned here.
  7. And the "64" is even dumber then the "U" or the "advance". The last one are legitimate names for consoles, but in the case of the N64 the name of the console itself is super dumb.
  8. Just added these nice mainstream first party titles to my small collection
  9. I have a gamecube at my parents house but with very few games. I was actually looking forward to buying the stuff I missed out as a teenager like a couple of months from now when I'll have more space in my own apartments. But at current prices it will be impossible for me. I've read that part of the reason is that the gamecube sold poorly. But it seems odd because it doesn't really matter how many consoles were sold but how many games were sold. I guess most people who had a gamecube during its lifespan had many games compared to, say, the wii. That's because the wii probably had a more casual audience. So it doesn't really make sense why prices are like triple that of wii games. Do you think it will come down in the future? It's pretty discouraging for me to think I will not be able to own some titles I really wanted.
  10. Some years ago I used to work as a developer for scalper company selling football (i.e. soccer for most of you) tickets. As part of the job I've built some bots that bought tickets from the official websites of some clubs, so they can then resell them. When I was interviewed I didn't understand it is scalping. And then I kept working cause I needed a job. The only positive part is that I had to quit after 4 months so they were then stuck with only one developer. I later donated a modest amount to a supporter organization of some local club of mine in an attempt to repent my sins. The funny thing is the guys running the company actually thought they are providing a service. In some sense they were because tickets were sold mainly to Americans who probably don't know how the European sporting event secondary market works (namely, that you can buy tickets outside the stadium for a premium of 30%-40% instead of the 200% they were taking). But still, the markups and the abuse of people's ignorance is disgusting. My point is that its not a crime to be ignorant on a subject, and if someone wants to casually buy tickets (or video games for that matter) and doesn't know how to navigate that specific market, people are still assholes for taking advantage of it.
  11. I bought a Japanese cib GBC on ebay. It came with 2 inserts. Now the manual says cgb-jpn-3, the console says cbg-jpn-1, and the box says cbg-s-spa-jpn-2. The other insert (warrenty maybe?) says t-cgb-jpn. Is it frankenstined? I don't care very much because I actually bought it had the best condition / price ratio even just considering the console, and the box was just an extra. But still, I would like to know.
  12. Well, thank you everyone! Yes, I'm currently intereted in GB/C games and N64 games. Do you mean that you are looking to get rid of some of yours? Anyway, sent a pm.
  13. I'm new to this site and actually not a member of any other community of the sort. I heard that NA was nice, and that VGS is the heir, so I decided to join I'm also new to "collecting" video games (as an adult). Like many others, the coronavirus lockdown was the catalyst for me to return to my old games. I wrote "collecting" with quotes because I find it hard to call myself a collector. I mainly enjoy playing original games on the original hardware. But then, I also want the physical copies to have nice labels and stuff, so maybe that is a collecting mentality? I dunno, and who cares... Anyway, here is my current very small collection: The stuff on right are what I owned back in the day. The stuff on the left I bought during the last couple of months. I used to own pokemon silver, as well as red and yellow, but as many other of my old GB games, I couldn't find them at my parents house. I also couldn't find my lime green GBC. The GBP I didn't own back in the day, but I bought because I wanted to see how it feels to play games on it (in my opinion, the screen is better!) and it also came with some games that I wanted. My old arctic GBA is not in the best condition unfortunately (the buttons are making life hard), but I'll probably buy another one when I'll want to play GBA games, because right now I'm pretty satisfied with GB/C games. I also own an N64 of course (what use is there for the games without it after all?), and some early 2000's nintendo power magazines. There is also a gamecube and a wii at my parents house, but I live in a tiny one room apartment so it'll stay at their place for now. I didn't really play the wii because we got it at 2008 right when I finished high school and I wasn't living at my parents house anymore. I remember only playing virtual console NES stuff when I was visiting them (as you can also see from the fact that 4 out of 6 of my GBA games are remakes, even at high school I preferred games from before I was born, or at least before I could walk). Its a bit hard to get games because the market for retro games in my country is very small. Also, the N64 in which I'm currently interested was never officially released here (so I felt very special owning it as a kid!). I used to have many more GB/C/A games which I don't recall selling so I have no idea what happened to them. I also had more N64 games which I sold ten years ago like an idiot. I actually tried to sell everything, thanks god I wasn't successful. Especially, thanks god no one in 2010 wanted to buy paper mario and ogre battle - paper mario was by far my favorite N64 games and I would have never been able to afford it today. I think I'll never sell a game again. Buying the "new" N64 games (sf64 and diddy racing) was the best experience of my last year. Since there was no official import of nintendo home consoles to my country back in the day, all the stuff me and my brother got were once a year when my father visited the US and came back. I think that he bought us a gamcube only when there were no more N64 games for sale at the big retailers (we were very late adopters, we got the N64 at 2001 iirc). Anyway, I didn't have this excitement of putting a new game into my N64 for so many years, so it was amazing!
