  1. Doug, I am a little surprised you haven’t mentioned this (being from Cincinnati): White Castle.
  2. I'm sorry...I meant to say 3 PM EST! It was mid-afternoon when I got my code (right when they were supposed to start releasing codes, but apparently they started releasing them a half hour earlier without telling anyone). So, I got my code right at 3 in the afternoon, but didn't redeem my code at the Nintendo online store until much later that evening, as everyone was hitting the website at the same time and there were errors with adding the pins to your cart and what not. I probably completed the check-out process around 7 PM eastern or so.
  3. Gotcha. Must be releasing in waves. Perhaps by first to check out? I got my code right before they expired, but didn’t check out until hours later because of the mob hitting the Nintendo store at 3 EST.
  4. That is also on the list for the basement arcade...a CD jukebox! Wife also wants a vintage pop machine too.
  5. Yes, the "effects" of a true, original Space Invaders cab(silvered mirror and all) is part of the experience that never gets duplicated in the ports. The moonscape of the "screen" just puts me in a 1970s wasteland of impending doom. And that alone is a phenomenal reason why to play Space Invaders on an actual, upright cabinet to get the full effect. Oh, and, yes, MR. DO! MR. DO! AND, more MR. DO!
  6. Have you been to KLOV or Pinside? This place is Care-A-Lot compared to those forums...especially PinSide! I still love KLOV, though!
  7. Yeah, definitely a piece of my childhood and teenage musics listening years taking a big hit yesterday. I was obsessed with Van Halen for about a year or two during my teens. The other recent ones that really hit me were Eddie Money, Prince, and, Ric Ocasek. Not to mention Michael Jackson all those years ago.
  8. We actually just added a bedroom to the basement this spring, but I have turned it into my home office for COVID. Wait for the vaccine and then let's talk.
  9. You could always consider a Pac-Man Pixel Bash, as it has 32 games (if you get the home version) from Bandai Namco and is an actual arcade machine (if you don't want to go the Arcade 1up route), and is actually around the same price as a Class of 1981 Galaga/Ms Pac cab. The caberet is the "home version" of it without the coin mech and with Ms. Pac-Man. The full size one is the commercial/coin mech version of it, but does not include Ms. Pac. It also comes in a cocktail table and also a version with a mini fridge!
  10. Excellent! An ARCADE thread! I was a little kid at the tail end of the Golden Age (4 to 5 years old), but my dad exposed me to games during this time since he was a fan of PONG and pinball in the 70s. Anecdotally, my first arcade game was Atari Star Wars at a bar that my dad took me to in '83 (back when kids were allowed into actual saloons, not the "bar and grill" of today) and I supposedly impressed the bar tender with my X-wing skills. So, yes, Atari Star Wars is up there for my top five games...I was also obsessed with Pac-Man back then and the Saturday Supercade TV show as a child, so Pac-Man is another love. Going to arcades by myself started in the late 80s, so I also am attached to TMNT and the Simpsons machine...but SFII really blew me away when it hit our local arcade's floor and really revitalized the arcade scene for at least the next two or three years. So SFII (World Warrior) is there as well in top five. I guess this thread is an excuse to show off my current line up, though my Pac-Man Arcade Party cocktail table is not out on the floor currently, and Outrun is down for repairs (EDIT, sorry for the glare):
  11. After the downtown mall closed down (Goldstar was in the food court there), they would have a GoldStar food truck come to Fountain Square throughout the summer every other day during the week. I haven't seen the food truck this year really...probably due to COVID.
  12. No, I actually did NOT get it! We had plans for supper already, and I didn't even think about getting it for lunch...as I work downtown and I don't think there is a GoldStar downtown anymore, is there? At least 3 or 4 Skylines, but I really don't think downtown has a Goldstar anymore now that the mall foodcourt closed down five years ago.
  13. I like topping out at 20...though I will play specific games longer if I am really enjoying them. I rushed through the first Red Dead Redemption just for the story, as I enjoyed that part of it. But I tend not to go after the side quests, as my backlog of games is big enough that I just want to "beat" the story and move on.
  14. Yeah, Riverfront was a cookie cutter and generally those do stink...but I have fond memories of the place. I went to a ton of baseball games there from the late 80s to the late 90s when my brother and I would visit my dad in Cincinnati for the summer. I went to Games 1 and 2 of the 1990 World Series, and that was just perfect...my dad pulled us out of school in Iowa so we could attend a World Series. I remember Riverfront rockin' during those two games. As a kid, I love the color-coded seating too... Red seats were the cheapies, Green seats were middle class (in my kid mind) and the blue seats were for the richer people who wanted to sit up front (again, in my kid mind). But THEN there were the yellow seats on the Club level. THOSE were where the real power players sat (don't you just love how kids minds work?), and we got lucky one or two times to sit in the yellow seats because my dad got them from a work colleague who was also a ticket broker on the side or some such thing. Yeah, Riverfront was considered awful by many...but I have many great memories from that stadium and I am glad I got to see a World Series in it!
  15. Just got mine in the mail today. Looking forward to firing it up on my Analogue NT!
  16. To this day, I still have never played a true Pokémon game. I think when it first hit the States, I figured I was too old to be the target demographic, and, at that point, I had moved on from console games to PC gaming (MS-DOS and Win95). I returned to console gaming with the GameCube and original Xbox, but never did pick up any Pokémon games! My kids love Pokemon, and sooner or later I am sure we will get some kind of Pokémon game. Any suggestions for a 41 year old guy with a 7 and 5 year old?
  17. Really? I find this much easier than Tetris 99! But, I am not a good Tetris player...that’s my wife’s wheelhouse.
  18. I have to agree with Genesis being a phenomenal SPORTS console. Atari 2600 for space shooters is also apropos.
  19. Well, got up to 3rd place today. Hoping I can get up to 1st in the next few sessions before everyone "gits gud" at this game.
  20. We got the Disney+ package, which includes ESPN+ along with Hulu. I just set up an extra TV down in the basement arcade since I wanted a TV down there for sports while playing some games. Watching the Bearcat game may make a good excuse to try out the new set up before the Bengals on Sunday!
  21. For college (FB and BB), I am an Iowa Hawkeye fan, but will watch the Bearcats on occasion. And since the Big Ten is still out until the 24th, I may just watch the Bearcats tomorrow. Wife is an Iowa State fan (we both went to college at those respective schools in Iowa), so we will probably watch the ISU v. Oklahoma game tomorrow night.
  22. Ugh...both of my teams are out pretty quick...Reds from NL and White Sox from AL. Well...time for a Bengals win on Sunday, Doug???
  23. Played quick this evening and got up to #5 in the match I played. I will have to really give it a go this weekend.
