  1. I like small but clever tricks such as doing BIT buttons to check the state of the controller without having to load it in A beforehand. Only works for A and B but it's a nifty trick for faster A/B checking. Also, using illegal opcodes to speed up some processes. For instance, LDA #$FF then STA $0200,x AXS #$04 is a great way to make a fast sprite clearing loop which saves up on a lot of DEX/INXes. I also unrolled it to STA $0200,x STA $0280,x to make it even faster while still being compact
  2. 𝓝𝓸 𝓔𝓵𝓲𝓽𝓲𝓼𝓶 𝓡𝓮𝓺𝓾𝓲𝓻𝓮𝓭.
  3. Ooooh RLE is a good first compression scheme. You can then try making it fancy I did one where a 3-bit value selects either one of the 6 most common tiles, another tile, or raw data, and the 5 remaining bits determine the length of the data to copy. Tho I think I added something to make it possible for the game to write 64 bytes at once instead of the maximum of 32 in a 5-bit value
  4. OH it was you @DefaultGen, I just remembered which Tyler it was hahahaha. Thanks again
  5. Thank you SO MUCH Tyler (I don't know which Tyler it was hahaha). I was really happy when I saw Daisenpuu in there. Definitely gonna take it to work with me tonight. I really liked the other gifts as well, especially having one less NES game to go.
  6. Well the Post Office decided to grinch me this year... but I should be getting my gift on Friday. Oh well, I'm glad my recipient @JamesRobot is loving his gift and I'll be updating this thread as soon as I get something
  7. Ooooh, what's that? A proper scanner?! Merry Christmas lads!
  8. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. I love everything about it, especially the soundtrack and oh man the story. Best story in a video game to date (I'm not joking, that game's the only game that consistently brings me to tears). Super Metroid is a very close second
  9. Die Hard (NES) actually has a specific game over string for that occasion. I love that game
  10. Lol that's a flickering issue. Does NESmaker even have flickering in it? Tho it should be an easy fix Also pardon me but I cannot resist making this joke... No Flickering Required
  11. This model was basically NEC flexing their technology. Keep in mind this is 1991 technology and quite a few people were wowed by this. However it came with a price (almost 100000 yen) and hence it didn't sell much. And it's even more expensive today if it works properly
  12. It all started back when I was still in Japan... I found a classified advertising a broken PC Engine with a few goodies. But not just any PC Engine - the most sought after model: Yes, I'm talking about the PC Engine LT. After some haggling and practicing my Japanese in the process, I had managed to buy it with a few scuffs to my savings. But here it was, not working... Fair enough, I thought. I added it to one of the packages I sent to fellow VGSer @SNESNESCUBE64, thinking it would be an easy repair and... Long story short, all chips in it were fried - So after a few months' worth of soldering and troubleshooting... Tadaa! I'm so happy to finally have this legendary model in my hands! Thanks, SNESNES!!!

    Dead Tomb

Oh wow the screen on the bottom looks sick. Is it digitised or is it hand drawn? Looks neat either way
  14. Ooooh I think I heard of this somewhere. I like the premise
  15. U-Four-Ia is one of my favourite NES games and the best Metroidvania on the system. A must-have. Aside from that, Over Horizon, Noah's Ark, Smurfs, Elite, Super Turrican are all great
  16. Feel free to add Saturn Smash into the mix
  17. 1987 - 1994 1987 because that's when games really started to show their potential beyond what black box titles could do, and 1994 because I consider Super Metroid to be the pinnacle of gaming of that era, and with the 3D era coming to a start I feel like gaming has went downhill ever since
  18. Simpsons Road Rage on the GBA. I played through it again this summer, and despite finishing it, it was a lot more repetitve than I remembered it being. I used to love it as a kid
  19. Notepad + ASM for the win. Programming required though...
  20. Saturn Smash is finished, the itch.io link is the game's primary dl link
  21. Yeah there's a notorious bootlegger going around these parts
