Another week in the books

eyMLdJC.jpg

Monster Boy finally arrived after a long wait. SNK 40th Anniversary, I already had the standard release, but I saw a listing for the CE at a nice price, figured I should upgrade.

7th Dragon was on my wishlist for a long time, not something I was willing to pay up for but then I was tipped off to an eBay listing for a brand new copy but no pictures on the listing. Figured why not take a chance and sure enough it was the launch edition, sealed, for $65 instead of the going price of $100+!

Klonoa 2 was also on my wishlist for a long time, and I was always kicking myself for not getting it when it was cheaper, but I was finally willing to pay up and then by chance I saw a listing for the Canadian variant with everything included, even the paper wrap going around the box, so I copped it.

Mad Rat Dead is another game I had slept on, and then it sold out quickly and I didn't hear about it again until recently when it showed up back in stock on Amazon. People were saying good things about it so I figured why not.

The My Nintendo items I was able to redeem with points. The Switch card case is an item that had already been released in other regions and I was waiting for a long time for it to finally come to the USA. So glad to finally have it!

And to close out the week, here's a sweet little bundle for the DS.

Hey @MiamiSlice I'm really curious how much you paid for the SNK Anniversary collector's edition? I know that has reached insane prices, although there's a guy on ebay selling the NTSC version for $120 sealed, which is indeed a great price 🙂

If you don't want to blurt out the price you can send me a message, or not! No worries either way, as I said, I'm curious...

It was $80 with free shipping on Facebook Marketplace. $85.30 with tax included. It is not sealed, but very good condition CIB

residentevilmortalkombat2021movies.jpg.0a03d7002b07d5ae0348be92dc12910c.jpg

Bought the new Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat movies on Blu-ray. From what I saw in the trailer, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City seems to be a more faithful adaption than the Milla Jovovich movies (it looks similar to the Resident Evil 2 remake) but the ratings aren't a whole lot better. While I think the first Resident Evil movie from 2002 is decent, I don't really care much for the sequels (all of which I watched in 2018 and barely got through them). Still, based on what I saw in the trailer, I can probably expect the new movie to be more enjoyable than the Milla Jovovich sequels at least. As for Mortal Kombat, I enjoyed the first one from 1995 (which I also have on Blu-ray). I'm not sure what to expect with this one, but as long as it's better than Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (another sequel I barely managed to watch all the way through) then it should be fine.

@MegaMan52 That MK movie is largely good, and definitely is nothing near the level of turd that annihilation was.  The first watch you'll actually be convinced perhaps that someone or something is one thing, but ends up being not and yeah that writes badly but it's being vague.  Just sit down and enjoy it, it's quite good.  I caught it on HBO max when they aired it side by side with the theater and it sucked me in.  I think cheese loaded as it is though, I still like the #1 boxoffice release of the original. 🙂

These are pick ups from the past 2 months (roughly) including birthday pickups:

First up is Ring Fit Adventure. I believe this was on sale when I bought it.

Next is an ok copy of Kirby’s Dreamland. Also pictured are the manuals from Baseball and Arch Rivals on the NES. The Arch Rivals was not included when I got my copy, and was a separate purchase. Baseball did come with the game.

Finally we have an absolute ton of NES games, including another 3 for my Black Box set. These came from various places and from various people. I’d say my favourite games from this lot are Super Dodge Ball, Punch-Out and Slalom, but they are all pretty fun.

As mentioned Baseball came with the manual and Casino Kid has a small hole in the case and label, though it’s  not enough to notice in my opinion.

It may not seem like a lot to most people, but this brings my total NES collection to 50 games, and 12 for the Black Box games. I can still remember the day close to 8 years ago or so when I went down to the game store and was deciding on my first game Between Yoshi’s Cookie and... Super Pitfall. Yeah. I chose Yoshi obviously, and in the long run that was the smart choice.

Thanks for reading and have fun hunting 🙂.

Some cool stuff came in the past couple days!

DCA2A2s.jpg

DS games are all sealed, Sagaia for Gameboy (CHN region), 3-screw Donkey Kong and a "broken" Pokewalker for cheap that just needed a new battery. This is literally my 3rd cheap Pokewalker that was sold as not working but just needed a new battery.

Does anyone know what the 3-screw Donkey Kong might be worth?

Also, the sealed Dragon Quest Monsters Joker is some kind of bundle with a screen wipe under the shrinkwrap. The game itself has a Y-fold seal under the cheap outer wrap. Does anymore have more info on the history behind this bundle? Maybe @MiamiSlice?

Yes you asked the right person 😅

It’s a pre-order bonus, and I don’t think it was retailer specific. I like that they didn’t remove the Y-fold seal.

This one is for the Metal Gear Solid fans. Picked up the MGS: The Twin Snakes Premium Package for the Gamecube.

For those who don't know, this was a premium package released in Japan only. It contains the console with a foxhound logo, concept booklet, MGS The Twin Snakes and a special edition disc that includes the original Famicom game, Metal Gear.

As far I am aware this is the only way to get the Metal Gear game on the Gamecube, which might make getting the full Japanese GC set a little hard to complete in the future.

One of the best console bundles ever released. The Resident Evil 4 Limited Edition Pak is also pretty cool.

Did you pay $2.99 for Fantasy Zone 🙂

Sigh...

I thought the same until I noticed more than one character to the left of the 2.99...zooming in it's $4 and then relatively giant 2.99 right next to it, so probably some retailer playing bait and switch and hoping somebody didn't notice and just let the pride make them finish the purchase at checkout.

Overpaid for this exact signed Kojima thing I wanted. I wanted a solo Kojima autograph on the MGS4 LE (either Japanese or American). It's a top 10 game ever for me and the version with the cool art! There were a couple MGS4 launch events where he signed these, but a lot of games were signed by multiple people... and I'm a picky picky collector.

Also stole this Diablo II soundtrack variant. Pretty damn hard to find and it just showed up complete and nice in my saved searches for $25 BIN one day. Game collecting is easy and I love it.

Really cool! Does the Kojima autograph come with a certificate of authenticity?

Sure didn't! I just stared and compared with other autographs from the same signing event. It's hard enough finding such a specific signed thing so I'm not gonna wait to see if one comes up with photo proof or anything. Of major game designers, his is probably one of the easier autographs to get since he's been at a lot of worldwide events.

New additions to the long box collection.  The interesting thing about this group is that all of these games were pieced together rather than buying them complete.  I don't necessarily recommend buying games this way, but there is something really satisfying to take a disc only game and combining it with an empty box and manual.

Sometimes, I'll hunt down cheap case+manuals because having a game and hunting down the CI part can be tough and expensive.  The other way around though, can get you a deal from time to time.

Congrats on completing them.  I ❤️ Longboxes!

mariopartysuperstars.jpg.2f29292e02979f46f25ac34bffbcd262.jpg

Bought Mario Party Superstars. While it is well-known that this game features Mini-Games from the Mario Party games for N64, it appears to include Mini-Games from the Mario Party games for GameCube as well. I'm pretty sure I saw Leaf Leap from Mario Party 5 and Rocky Road from Mario Party 6 in the trailer video I watched a few months ago. Also, the Mini-Game shown on the top of the cover there looks like Coney Island from Mario Party 5. But what I appreciate the most about this game is the fact that it has Pro Controller support, so I can use my GameCube-style Switch Controller. I don't mind that Super Mario Party makes use of the Joy-Cons, but an option to use other Controllers would've been nice so it's good that this game has that.

I also bought the new Halloween movie on Blu-ray. I enjoyed watching the 2018 Halloween movie, and have actually already watched this one and liked that they brought back a lot of characters from the original Halloween movie from 1978. Now that I've added this movie to my collection, I'll most likely be watching it again in October.

While at Walmart buying Mario Party Superstars and Halloween, I also got this Space Jam: A New Legacy poster. I got the movie on Blu-ray for Christmas and actually kind of like it even though it is more like Ready Player One and not as good as the first Space Jam movie (but I knew it wouldn't be, and was just glad it was decent). I like how the movie uses both CG and traditional animation, and that both Michael Jordan and Bill Murray make cameos.

Downloaded the demo version of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Thinking about buying a physical copy of the full version. Maybe later this month.

A few months ago I bought a large lot of PS1 manuals for a decent price and I always keep and eye out for PS1 games missing their manuals on eBay.  Missing manuals is somewhat common on long box and multi disc games since they usually sit lose in the case and sometimes fall out.

It's sort of hard to say what I paid for each one.  Five out of the six games were in a lot with a member here and we didn't discuss individual prices.  We just agreed upon an overall price which included a bunch of other CIB games.

However, I can say that I paid only $30 for the disc only copy of Discworld which I was pretty happy with.  Oddly enough, it came from Europe despite being an NTSC version of the game.  It took a while to get here and I was a little nervous about it arriving, but it arrived and was packaged very well for the long trip.  The seller couldn't have made much money on the sale.  I played it for a little while and the game works perfect.  I've never played the game before, but I knew before buying it that it was a game that I was very interested in playing.
