  1. Sarcasm is hard to convey over the internet! Either way, a casual reader of the site now has the “scholastic” reasoning to our madness. Those codes are just information that’s basically meant to be used in the 80s and 90s to help a company track any potential flaws in their products. It just so happens that it has a practical application to collectors and archivists like us...what investors do with that information is none of my concern since I myself have a few titles that are definitely not “gamers” copies, or even things that I can flatten to scan...
  2. The five digit codes are an additional piece of history that no one is documenting and is becoming increasingly prohibitively expensive to archive, especially on the rarer end of the hobby. Also, having a hard print date is a nice tool in our arsenal. We can’t expect anyone to ever open a game that’s worth 4 figures with cellophane, and 3 figures without...but we do know that TAI-NES-US-5 and TAI-NES-US-6 exist and are commonly found in the late print Taito games...especially so, both of which are found in Bubble Bobble 2 in “natural” eBay listings. Determining the print date codes on these two obvious differing print runs means we can extrapolate that information and apply it to other late release Taito games. BB2 being printed both on July 9, 1993 and November 4, 1993 tells me that the print date of November 16, 1993 for Dinosaur Peak means that the chances of it also coming with TAI-NES-US-6 approach 100% since they were printed mere days apart.
  3. They’re close most times, rarely on the same date. I don’t think I found a 100% CIB game yet without a manual within a few days of the box.
  4. Yep! Unfortunately they weren’t introduced until October 1987. So anything before that is guaranteed NOT to have it. Manuals also have these codes on the bottom right corner of the last page! Also, third party self-manufacturers and *some* Nintendo printed games don’t use these codes.
  5. Isn’t that what the switch did with like 90% of the Wii U library? I think Nintendo would have like to get a couple more years out of the Wii U but had to cut it short since no one wanted it and released the switch before they initially wanted to. Also, if I’m not mistaken even on the NES there’s been some rereleases. Mega Man 1 for example was rereleased long after the initial print run. It’s the one with the oval seal of quality. I think a good way to rerelease games these days is by calling it a HD Remaster.
  6. 2020 wasn’t so bad after all. Looking forward to this one :)
  7. I almost had a fullset until I sold it all to Phil, owner of KillScreenGames in Asbury Park, NJ. Dude used to go by the name of “cremorecs” on Nintendoage
  8. It’s foolish to believe there aren’t more Tim Atwood’s out there when people like Dov/Dovaleh exist. Dude regularly found pallets upon pallets upon WAREHOUSES full of sealed NES games. ... If there are a pair of surviving ROB M1 series displays, I promise that there are more Tim Atwood’s and Dov’s. I also remember seeing a VGA 80+ sticker sealed SMB somewhere, but I completely lost the photo. Anyone have a picture of it?
  9. How has no one said Odyssey 2? The Odyssey 2 is AMAZING!! CLAMSHELL case, but made of cardboard! Also has a little slot for the manual!!! Jesus what a box!
  10. I must be the only nerd who absolutely hated the movie. Me and my wife said it was “being geeky just to be geeky” Never realized it was based on a book though! I should be ashamed of myself for not knowing that. I might actually pick it up and *gasp* read it!
  11. *grumble* I guess that’s fine! Ballz 3D next year! Ima reserve *so* many time slots next year....$25 donation after $25 donation..... For the children of course... ... (I kid, I wouldn’t subject anyone to that level of torture....Maybe just some Tetris instead, it’s the perfect game after all!) Also thanks for doing this it really does bring in the holiday spirit to an otherwise crappy year. I felt strange buying my secret Santa gifts.
  12. @Gloves I still have some power after all! >_> can the dark mode be the grinch! Only makes sense
  13. Sometimes we need to take a step back to make two steps forward. This has the scientific community in a state of shock, and I'm sure it will drive them to seek funding for a replacement. Maybe in a different place, maybe in a different country all together, but I'm sure if good science can be acquired from a project such as this then a replacement will be made eventually.
  14. It’s a Christmas miracle! And here I thought I was going to go mad with power.
  15. ...I...I can exploit this. This much power is too much for one man. The power to control the holidays!? I shall paraphrase the great J. Robert Oppenheimer. Now I am become Grinch, destroyer of holidays.
  16. ... My turkey has been fully metabolized, and it’s December 1 in Australia, yet all I see is purple. WTF? By the power of Greyskull, I summon @The Sage to dispel this malevolence!
  17. Honestly at this point, who cares? He squandered a franchise that could have rivaled the likes of Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings. This was compounded by the self-destruction that HBO did with the TV series. Before Covid my entire family, extended family, and all of my friends were super hardcore into Game of Thrones. We went through the greatest global pandemic since the Spanish Flu of 1918. The call to action was to literally sit at home and watch TV, yet not a SINGLE PERSON I know watched a single episode of Game of Thrones. The story is dead as far as I'm concerned. ... also... Bran could have totally warg into a dragon giving him some arguable reason why he is King of Westeros. Daenerys was never shown pregnant, despite it being heavily foreshadowed. Also, the bells? wtf? Arya wanted to find her family the entire series and decided to become Dora the Explorer. The Freefolk went back past the wall, despite wanting to get on the other side of the wall for generations. There's no purpose for the Nights Watch now that the night king is dead, so why did John Snow return to the wall that's also been torn down? To...defend against the Freefolk? Why didn't Cersei just kill Tyrion, Daenerys, Grey Worm, Varys, her....20 or so soldiers, AND her last dragon with a literal dragon killing crossbow pointed at it that one scene when they killed Missandei and just END THE WAR!?!?!!?
  18. And just like that, a Christmas tradition was born! (I hope) It would be fun to see either Yoshi or Luigi as the Grinch. Zangeif as an Elf would bring great joy. The Koopalings with reindeer horns, and Baby Bowser with a red nose (Rudolph) with Bowser Sr. Dressed as Santa all happy as a weird dysfunctional family would be the coolest thing of all though! Like, I’d pay real cash money to commission that! Pikachu with a simple Santa hat is fun the TMNT opening up Christmas presents with Master Splinter and April would be fun.
  19. Wanna save me the hassle of buying every California Games manual on eBay hoping for a 00416 and sell it? My CIB feels more naked than the people on the cover without it!
  20. Any photos of those two? If they aren’t on my Konami Myster 5-Screw Variant List id like to add them, but I need a little proof!
  21. Still upset you didn’t play Ballz 3D! (Not really)
  22. Turkey bones and 3/4 can of cranberry sauce. ... In all seriousness we finally finished off our thanksgiving dinner by making a cream of turkey soup. Now I have to go to the market on a Sunday! I’d rather order out!!
  23. Hi Cam, welcome to the community. Any specific reason why you need the photo? I'd be more than happy to help if I knew what you needed this photo for. Also, here's more than enough evidence. The most important thing is showing, the cutout, and the glue mottling pattern.
  24. So I can confirm I have two posters in two different (shitty) boxes. 00711 in gold ink, and 00416 in gold ink. Curiously, both manuals in these boxes are 00712. It's kinda driving me nuts since I don't have a 0041X manual My other two copies of California games do not have this poster, but their flap codes are 90213 in black ink (90214 manual), and 91026 in grey ink (no manual) Both of my spare manuals for this game are also 90214. Edit: Oh, and all boxes have Oval TM seals.
  25. I compare the N64 to the Atari 2600. Highly innovative for the time, but just not truly an enjoyable experience today for most people. I would even argue to say that the platform wasn't truly great even back then, given the fact that the platform only holds a total of 296 games in the USA, and that literally half the library is sports and racing games. There's also a complete lack of RPGs across the library even in Japan! Here's a list of every N64 RPG. I'll even be generous and be loose with the definition. Aidyn Chronicals Custom Robo (Japan Only) Custom Robo 2 (Japan Only) Hybrid Heaven Ogre Battle 64 Paper Mario Quest 64 Shiren the Wanderer 2: Demon Invasion! Shiren Castle (Japan Only) Super Robot Wars 64 (Japan Only) Ultraman Battle Collection 64 (Japan Only) Zoor: Monster Master Story (Japan Only) Now, the platform has some real awesome games, even outside of games published and/or developed by Nintendo or Rare. But bashing aside, I still love the Nintendo 64 because of the following games: Adventures Bomberman 64 Mega Man 64 Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon Shadow Man Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Arcade Rampage 2: Universal Tour Fighting Fighting Force 64 Fighters Destiny Killer Instinct Gold Mortal Kombat 4 Super Smash Bros.
