  1. @MrWunderful Thanks Corey, I'm not in any hurry, just really curious. For everyone else, here's an example of what I mean about legit PCBs in bootleg carts. Yup I know the one Contra PCB is broken, I forget how that happened, but I kept it for historical purposes. Also Because both versions of Contra (globs and chipped) exist in this format, it shows that this wasn't just parts being stolen off a truck or something.
  2. Also what is NT machine? I know of a company that released fake famicom games with the id code NTXX, the company was also known as Ka Sheng. I'm Sure this is not what the NT clone is though.
  3. On a thread about the Black Box Challenge game, there was a message posted how the game would only run on high end clones or original hardware. I made a comment on the thread, was replied, and decided to start a new thread since I didn't want to hijack. What's the difference between a "high end" modern clone and an old school clone such as Micro Genius, Aaronix, Ending Man , etc? Just that the patent wore off and it's now legal? Does the phrase high end clone just mean one that's made of discrete chips, i.e. essentially 1:1 copy, rather than a NOAC machine? Does something like the AVS reign supreme due to its hookups to modern TVs, clearer picture etc? I'm really curious on this topic, let's discuss.
  4. Hahaha. I just found the phrasing of "high end clone" to be very very amusing ;). I almost feel like there's some what of a snobbery of sorts, and it always makes me chuckle when people post these disclaimers, and then the carts run perfectly fine in one of my clones, which aren't nearly as weird or obscure as what everyone would like to believe. I don't want to go off on a tangent here, I'm gonna start another topic.
  5. High end clones? Hahaha. I'm guessing this would run in all the late 80s / early 90s Famiclones too? Most likely the disclaimer should be read as, " This game won't work on NOAC machines." ? Or is there something that makes the AVS more high end than my Micro Genius?
  6. Looking good dude! You're on the home stretch of the marathon now.
  7. I highly recommend that book about the disk system stuff. Some of the pictures in there I even scanned!
  8. @MrWunderful Would it be possible to please open up a couple of those Konami carts so that we can see the insides? I'm quite curious to see if it's a proper 72 pin board, a 60 pin bootleg board + adaptor, or a 60 pin Konami board + adaptor. Seeing as how Konami PCBs have turned up in bootleg shells before, I'm really curious about these. Thanks!
  9. I'll need a few days, but I could help get you some of the information. PM me about what specifically you're interested in?
  10. Just got things cleaned out a bunch, here's mine. Can anyone spot the beer I'm drinking? my game room is really small, I'm basically out of space, I guess that should tell me something.
  11. I remember asking my highschool french teacher to do Asterix
  12. Wow, she's getting hardcore about Banner eh? As I said to you privately, too little, too late, especially knowing all those games you recently bought
  13. Sure, I definitely miss NA. I had a lot of good times there, and was around since the beginning, well even before then, to the surprise of some. With that being said, I quite like VGS, and I took the attitude that since it was a new site, I'd take a new attitude, let bygones be bygones. I had a lot of heated debates and arguments with folks over on NA, and some may have even taken it personally (for me it was always sort of like driving, if a random cuts you off, you may be pissed in the moment, but if you see them a week later at the mall, then it's a totally different chance encounter, no need for ill-will), but at the end of the day, it's a bunch of people passionate about the same thing I'm passionate about. So I decided to let the drama in the past and focus on positive interactions here.
  14. I am interested in getting the unlicensed nes games, CIB, but I don't want to spend cash on them. I'm willing to trade famiclone games, famiclone machines, other import extras Ive got for sale for these. I only want CIB unlicensed games, not particularly condition sensitive. To start us off, famiclone games: https://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=13849.0 Please message me if you want to trade items. Thanks!
  15. I'm using physical carts running on a Micro Genius IQ-501 famiclone, hooked up to a crt tv. What about you guys?

    Family Bits

Maybe it partially is I'll be posting some tidbits in here later, but I think you guys will be shocked by the relationships all these companies (even licensed companies) had with the bootleggers. Definitely not an innocent relationship, haha.

    Family Bits

Around 2012 or 2013 I had a two dreams. One was to collect all of the unlicensed software available for the Famicom, and the other was to write and publish a comprehensive book about all of the unlicensed games coming out of Taiwan. I've been close to achieving the collection goal for years, and I'm at the point where I am happy with my collection as it is, despite the fact that I am missing maybe 35 or so cartridges from achieving that goal. With the book goal, I changed scope and focus a lot over the years, but that project is also nearing its end, with the creation of a two-volume series of books known as Family Bits. What is Family Bits? Family Bits is an approximately one-thousand (1000) page book discussing primarily unauthorized software on the Famicom, though it also delves into related themes. The first volume of the book is quite close to completion (I am currently playing through the games and taking screenshots, and then I will go back and give everything a second read, allowing me to then add additional information where possible), and the second volume is easily sitting at about 60 - 75% complete. Due to the large size of the book, I felt it necessary to divide it into two sections. Although I don't have plans for a third volume, anything is possible. If Family Bits turns out to be well-received, then I might undertake a similar project for all of the original software for the Game Boy, developed here in Taiwan, for the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis), etc. Content: Here is my rough sketch for the content to be contained within both volumes of the Family Bits series. As I finalize everything though, some moving around might be done. Volume 1: -Unlicensed Original Games -Rumor Mill and Unreleased Games -Edutainment -Homebrew and Indie Games of Today -Vintage Company Advertisements -Interviews and Articles -Box Art Gallery Volume 2: -Waixing Games -Nanjing Games -Jncota Games -Famicom Disk System to Famicom Cartridge Conversions (unofficial) -NES Exclusives Released on the Famicom (unofficial) -North American Versions Released on the Famicom (unofficial) -Unofficial Translations -Game Hacks -Multicarts -Famiclones (A Brief OVerview)
  18. Yes, this one happened to me last year. I have a friend from Thailand who occasionally asks me to purchase items on his behalf, I generally do it gratis since he then helps me get games from his region in exchange. One day, I was up in Taipei looking in a game shop, which everyone here knows. It's basically a poor man's Super Potato with rich prices. Anyways, I see an item in the display case (a bootleg of the Family Basic cartridge) that I've never seen or heard of before, so I start asking the owner about it, ask to take a picture, etc. After a bit, the guy realises that I'm not just a tourist passing through, as my Chinese is waaay too good for that. He then asks me, "Are you the rumoured foreign collector living in central Taiwan, who has the crazy collection of bootleg Famiclone carts? The one who helps his Thai guy get some games from time to time?" At that point I just stood speechless, I had no idea I had become somewhat legendary on the island.
  19. @doner24 and @RegularGuyGamer congratulations to you both!
  20. Today I had to work, sadly. I was recruited by my boss to bring my electric guitar into work to perform the following song: Not particularly a great Thanksgiving, really miss the gathering of family back home. Anyway hope everyone has a great and safe day!
  21. The orange ones a stray, no idea about the buddy of his I saw yesterday. Tonight I came home to this sight, lol.
