  1. The star most likely signifies a late edition with a new warranty/sales statement on the side of the box. Some people think it indicates a promotional game that was part of a giveaway, but there is literally zero evidence to support that claim anywhere on the internet. Doesn't mean it's not true, but we have no way of knowing. In my opinion, you should just think of it as a late edition of a game that may or may not be in limited supply. See here for more:
  2. Meldac, huh? From the developers of Zombie Nation? I'm sure they made more games, but this is only the second time I've seen that name.
  3. Finally started The Outer Worlds on Xbox One X. Beautiful game although I'm still figuring out how to build my character. I feel like these types of games require a restart after 10 hours to truly appreciate the nuance of different play styles. On a side note, I'm playing on hard at the advice of numerous people and it feels right. You can't just rush into combat with high level enemies and expect to survive, but it feels very fair.
  4. This is a legitimately terrible mistake and you should try to get your money back. Wow.
  5. Maybe? It depends on how you guys do things and communicate. Maybe err on the side of buying more often, rather than less often. My wife often says flowers are dumb, but she loves when I send some to her at work since all her co-workers get to see them. Whether you agree or not, sometimes it's nice to be able to point to a discrete object and say it is a symbol of love. Relationships are hard.
  6. I have no clue. But I've never seen an auction of unused cartridge shells before, so I thought it was unique. Judging by your reaction, I'm guessing this is actually super common? If so, then my bad.
  7. Stumbled on an interesting BIN for unused Majesco SNES cartridge shells. Apparently the seller will also throw a common game inside, but no guarantee that it will work. He has quite a few available. May be good for particular SNES collectors looking to increase the quality of their back side Majesco carts or those who don't mind using reproduction labels. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F264531242306
  8. I'm sorry, but that's just not true. This is not a patent issue, but instead one of ergonomics and personal preference. In fact, the Wii Pro Controller had symmetric analog sticks, but Nintendo ditched them in favor of offset. In the usual gameplay scenario, the left thumb sits on the left analog stick and the right thumb sits on the face buttons. This allows the thumbs and hands to be symmetric during the majority of gameplay time for most types of games. However, with the rise of first-person shooters, we saw the introduction of games that required players to have their thumbs resting on both analog sticks for the majority of gameplay time. In this scenario, symmetric sticks lead to symmetric thumb and hand positioning. Obviously, both arrangements are perfectly adequate because hundreds of millions of people use each layout. My personal preference is for offset. As for your second comment, I've never had any difficulty with the bumper/trigger transition. In fact, I prefer the minimal clicks on the Xbox controller versus the larger trigger-like buttons on the DS4, but this is also personal preference.
  9. When I'm not collecting old NES games, I'm all about my Xbox. I've had the original Elite controller since it's launch in 2015 and it is unequivocally the best controller ever made. The shape, the heft, the texture, the added features: everything about it screams excess. I probably put at least 1000 hours on it and it's still kicking. That being said, one of the textured hand grips has been peeling for the last year and I wore the thumbsticks down. Thankfully those are easy fixes with a little super glue and some third-party rubber grips. I never had issues with the bumpers, possibly because I don't play many first-person shooters. Having said all that, I received the series 2 controller last week and, as you'd expect, it's quite good. But it doesn't feel "4-years later, $30 more expensive" good . For starters, they tried to fix the grip-peel issue by integrating the textured material right into the controller handles, but it just doesn't feel as nice. The bumps are smaller and a bit harder and I don't love them. They also added a rechargeable battery, which sounds good, but also means the controller is as good as dead when the battery dies. I got used to the added heft that replaceable, rechargeable batteries added to the original controller and I miss that here. There are some crazy new high-speed features like three levels of depth compression for the triggers, the ability to adjust the tension of the thumbsticks, slight tweaks to the paddles, and USB-C charging. But in all honesty, I'd recommend finding a series 1 controller and saving yourself $50-80. Anybody else use either of these controllers? Thoughts? P.S. I think the DualShock 4 is also a great controller and finally brings Sony into the 21st century, but it still can't compete with Microsoft's standard controller. Offset analog sticks forever!
  10. Welcome! Enjoy your descent into the madness that is CIB collecting.
  11. Congrats! This is a fun way to collect and would make for a fun way to play as well.
  12. I have to believe that "bad Sonic" was a calculated marketing ploy to drum up interest for a movie that was destined to bomb. Now they've at least bought some good will with fans who were on the fence. Or maybe Hollywood execs really are that clueless.
  13. As the creator of the thread, we defer to you.
  14. Yesssss. I was hoping people would start dropping some YouTube videos in for my lazy ass.
  15. Good point. Definitely less of this available than other titles and probably less oval copies than the round seal version. Based on the side of the box, it is probably the star code version which makes it likely to be the rarest version of them all.
  16. True, but the oval seal was distributed long enough to get a star code revision to the box, so it's very unclear how man copies of each seal were made.
  17. Good luck! I'll peek through what I have, but I don't think it's any of those.
