  1. Video Editor (built into Windows 10) is basically the modern version of their movie maker software. Simple to use and should work fine for basic stuff. If you want even more control/professional look, there's the open source Davinci Resolve software, which is even used professionally, but comes at a steeper learning curve. It's my go-to now that I've learned it a bit.
  2. Re: Roulette powerup. Interesting, yeah this game has some quirks that weren't in Gradius 1 or 2, but I guess that's to be expected. I'll have to give it some more time and figure out its bag o' tricks. I'm only at about 60K 'cause those darn roulettes gettin me lol.
  3. The random powerups thing is so cheap and I'm not sure if it's even avoidable. It almost always lands on "!?" losing all powerups, effectively ending the run. My past 3 runs have ended like that. I'm playing on "manual" firing btw. I don't like to lookup videos or online tips unless the original manual has it, but this game was only Japanese. *Edit I forgot this game came out in Europe too. So apparently this isn't an issue when you do "auto" mode? https://www.thegameisafootarcade.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Parodius-Game-Manual.pdf Also, the duck boss is named Crapper:
  4. 9,999,999 Ok, so my everdrive is having issues. Gonna reformat it and try again soon.
  5. 58,600 Had too much speed and clipped the dancer towards end. Score pretty low for progress. Might get another run in but we'll see. 18,100
  6. Best wishes and get well soon! I'm not on facebook but I remember Shipwreck from NA way back when.
  7. Score updated on original post (pg 1) Went for a quick attempt after dinner. Blundered a bunch on Quickman's stage but whatever. Slowly getting the ol' gears greased up again, haven't played a platformer in a long time. Might be later in week til I play again though. Run Time: 0:58:02 LINK 0:26 (difficult selected) 50:28 (Wily Castle spawn) "The Sunset Run" lol
  8. 34:51 Updated 3/20/22 Played once on Friday night and shaved a bit more time off. Still sloppy and blundered on Air Man stage. I'll see if I can get another score in today. 0:00:45 (Difficult mode selected) 0:35:36 (Wily Stage 1 Spawn) OLD ATTEMPTS Had a chance to play tonight, I actually recorded it with capture card and webcam. My friggen HDD ran out of disk space while transcoding the capture footage (I was using 720p/60fps) and it won't let me open the file. I freed space and I'll see if it comes around. Just a fair warning before you make a serious run, check your HDD/memory card space! Luckily I got the webcam footage (wasn't expecting to use it... poor lighting, not sure if my name is visible but it's in bottom right corner): 1:33:20 (Run time) LINK TO VIDEO, AKA SLOWEST "SPEED" RUN OF MM2 0:00:50 (Difficult mode selected) 1:34:10 (Wily Castle Spawn) Not an exemplary showing by any means! Lol. Not sure if I'll have time for another run but it was fun to revisit. Got Wily's Castle tune going in background now. Good stuff. Look forward to seeing some speedrun action!
  9. Unofficial test run for clarification to make sure this submission/format is acceptable: 0:4:11 (*This is just an example, using my time to beat Metal Man (not reach Wily Castle). Hrs:Mins:Secs. I used my start time in vid (0:11, after clicking 'difficult') then subtracted that value when I got to the cutscene screen (4:22) Died twice on metal man stage, and barely beat metal man , it's been too long since I've played this classic.
  10. Just beat Eternal Darkness. First time ever playing through (also my first ever Gamecube playthrough). Always wanted to try this game. I usually don't play longer games but this one I really enjoyed and it exceeded my expectations.
  11. I like the speedrun additions! I've never tried one but it sounds fun. Also, I noticed people mentioning technical difficulties with recording their gameplay. I've got a few tips if that's alright. Smartphone: If you lower the resolution you can bypass the recording limit. Most phones (Galaxy series, etc.) limit the length for higher-res video to avoid overheating. Not sure if I could beat MM2 in 10-20 minutes lol. Webcam (and tips for filming CRT with smartphone or webcam): If you're filming a CRT, check if your cam has exposure and gain adjustment (not brightness) in software, you can get a good image from a CRT by adjusting the gain value and lowering the exposure value of your camera. I've used Logitech camera/software like the C170 and C615 in the past with decent results. All else, these settings should also apply to filming a CRT with a smartphone. You may need to install a third-party app on your phone like OpenCamera to enable manual controls like exposure adjustments.
  12. Supercharged Robot Vulkaiser (PC, 2015) - This is a really fun horizontal shoot 'em up by a Japanese indie dev. It's in the style of 1960s/70s anime (like Astro Boy or Gigantor). The game has a lot of character and the gameplay/mechanics/bosses are solid. I'm about halfway through at the moment. Good challenge but not relentless, and the charm and strong mechanics of the game makes me want to continue. Eternal Darkness (Gamecube, 2001) - This has been on my backlog for years, finally getting to it. I never owned a Gamecube but this game always intrigued me. I'm currently about 8 hours in and it's surpassed my expectations. Don't want to spoil it incase anyone hasn't played yet, but I'd recommend it if you've been on the fence.

Day 16) [8-Bit] - Getsu Fuuma Den / Overworld Theme - {Famicom} Wow, good one. Also, I totally hear a familiar melody in there?? The part at 2:16.. I could swear another game has that exact melody.. Found it! That melody is also in Outrun (Arcade,1986). Day 24) [Pinball] - Pinbot / Title - {NES} Day 13) [Remake] - Mega Man II / Metal Man - {GENESIS} spinz Day 01: [1991] Golden Axe II - Intro Theme [GEN] Cool jam in Genesis glory, groovin' bass, synths, and kickin' drums Day 05: [1997] Treasures of the Deep - Shipwrecked [PS1] That's a vibe right there, nice one haha. Day 2: (Opening Stage/Grass Lands) | Green Hill Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog I see a Green Hill Zone track, I instantly like; so nostalgic and great. 16-bit: Opus 13 - Castlevania: Rondo of Blood Wow, this is nice. It sounds a bit out of place for Castlevania but I totally dig it.
  14. So sorry to hear man. Sending prayers for you and your family. All the best
  15. ^^ Ohhh, sounds like someone needs to get better at Potassium Galaga...(??) lol
  16. Filling in for AO98 today with the banner... hold the tomatoes please.
  17. No guarantees it'll be anywhere near the quality of the previous banners but I'll give it a shot. If anyone else wants to try, go ahead (if that's ok with OP).
  18. Ah, didn't know I had benefits like that with YouTube Music service aside from streaming in the car. The link you showed is the same song yes, I'll adjust it, thanks!
  19. Man, I thought VGS was a goner! I've been trying to access the site for like 2 weeks now to no avail. Just randomly sought more info and saw a post stating I had to add /forums to the domain and the site would work. With that out the way, I'm super excited for this thread!!!! NESMASTER14's VGMC 31-Day Challenge List IV Day 1 (Intro) - Demon Sword (NES) - Title Screen - This title screen always stood out to me, and I've yet to hear the NES channels pushed to these registers either haha. Pretty intense. Day 2 (Opening Stage) - Sonic Adventure 2 (DC) - Escape From the City - Getting my Sonic pick out early, but a classic. Day 3 (Simulation) - Aqua World (Saturn) - Options - For when you want to turn on your hi-fi and watch fish. Day 4 (Impressive) - Harmsing - Astyanax / Lord King (NES) Cover Arrangement - This is a very unique and epic cover of an NES soundtrack, both the video and the music. It gets pretty wild midway and is a trip to listen/watch. Tasteful and well-made. Day 5 (Playstation) - Tsukiyo ni Saraba [10,000 Bullets] (PS2) - D.O.L.L - A little smoother/funkier jam from this jazzin' soundtrack. Hard to pick one track from it, others are worth a listen as well. One Note Blues is pretty jammin' with a breakbeat vibe and frenetic organs/sax. Day 6 (Strange) - Po Pi Pa Pi - Mario Artist: Talent Studio (N64DD) What puts it over the top for me is the unexpected telephone off-hook tone at 1:16. So strange... Lol. Day 7 (Computer) - Cannon Fodder (Amiga) - Intro Day 8 (Bonus-Stage) - Touhou - Great Fairy Wars (PC) - Magus Night Extra Stage Boss - I don't follow anime much but I like a good shmup. Finally tried a few recently and they were pretty fun. I dug the music in some of the stages. Same song maybe higher quality (if you have YT Music subscription) Day 9 (Same Game/Different) - My pick is a bit silly, but it's a difference. They swapped the opening stage tracks around. Batman (FC) - Stage 1-1 Batman (NES) - Stage 1-1 Day 10 (Nostalgic) - Sonic Spinball (Genesis) - Stage 1 - Fond memories of this game, and what a jammin' soundtrack! Day 11 (Romhack) - Chose two tracks for today, I really dig the melodies and composition. Baleful Sonata (CV1, NES) - "Exodus of Vermin" by Optomon Baleful Sonata (CV1, NES) - "Mindlessness" by Optomon Day 12 (Banjo NES/Country) - The Lone Ranger (NES) - Train Ride - Super short theme, don't miss it or forget your banjo. Day 13 (Remake) - Sonic Generations - File Select (PS3) [Sonic 3 & Knuckles (GEN) File Select music remake)] - Day 14 (Dungeon) - Legend of Zelda (NES) - Dungeon Theme - A mysterious piece full of wonder as you venture through the perilous dungeons. What more to say other than classic. Day 15 (Boss) - Werewolf The Last Warrior (NES) - Battle Theme - A bit odd to have a reggae style beat for a battle theme but I dig it Day 16 (Retro) - A) 8-bit - Yume Penguin Monogatari (FC) - Stage 1 - Really fun composition and rhythm! B) 16-bit - Final Fantasy VI (SFC) - Forever Rachel - Great composer and song. C) 32-bit - PaRappa the Rapper (PS1) - Chop Chop Master Onions - I remember playing this on a PS1 demo disc, thought it was weird then and it still is lol. Awesome though and fun tunes! D) 64-bit - Doshin the Giant (N64, JP) - Theme of Doshin The Giant - I've always under-estimated how awesome some N64 game soundtracks are. This is like a 1970s japanese experimental record that somehow expressed itself by means of N64. Day 17 (Racing) - Wave Race (N64) - Title Theme - Didn't own this back in the day but played it and I appreciate the tunes more now. Reminds me of Casiopiea haha. Day 18 (Short) - Galaga (Arcade) - Game Start - Iconic tune and transports me to the arcade with a pocket full of quarters and a joystick ready to shoot. Day 19 (Name Entry) - San Francisco Rush (N64) - Name Entry Screen - Wh-wh-wh-what's yo' name? Day 20 (Homebrew) - The Rise of Amondus (NES) - Elderwood - Blast beats on NES Day 21 (Gambling) - Peek a Boo Poker (NES, *Adult, NSFW*) - Title Theme - Panesian game, so don't expect much, but I always thought it had a nice little melody. Day 22 (Cartoon/Movie Based) - A) Cartoon - Darkwing Duck (NES) - Quacker Jack Stage - Toe tappin' upbeat jazzy swing B) Movie Based on Game - Resident Evil (2002) - Main Theme - I never expected to include Marilyn Manson in a VGMC list, but I still find this theme to be pretty cool. Day 23 (Free Day) - Gone Away (MSX cover of Offspring) by Meits (1997) - Something about this rather obscure MSX rendition of this 90s song hits me with a nostalgic bittersweet feeling. Day 24 (Pinball) - Epic Pinball (DOS) - Intro Theme - Early 90s tracker music with driving bass and kicks, reverb snares and tasteful synth , a classic video pinball DOS game. Day 25 (Vocals) - Vandal Hearts (PS1) - Intro Day 26 (Shooters) - Cho Ren Sha 68K (X68000, Windows PC) - We Love the E.A.R.T.H (Name Entry) - I remember playing this in the mid 2000s when it got ported to Windows and was really impressed with it. Solid oldschool indie shmup from 1995 in the vein of PC Engine shooters. There's also this arranged track called Fight To Your Happiness from the official soundtrack which has vocals. It doesn't really fit with the game but is kinda awesome because of that. Day 27 (Unsettling) - Taboo: The Sixth Sense (NES) - Prologue - I wouldn't consider this horror but it definitely gives a very unsettling vibe. Day 28 (Final Boss) - Hyper Wars (PC Engine CD) - Battle Theme 7 - Welp, winding down the list with a ROMPING heavy metal PC engine CD soundtrack. That cover art! If I heard this track when I got to the end of a game, I'd probably need a minute to take it all in, lol. Day 29 (Hidden Boss) - Gimmick (NES) - Final Boss Part 2 - I've beaten Gimmick but didn't get the secret items to unlock the final "good ending" boss fight. Day 30 (Ending & Favorite VGMC Tune) - (Ending) Splatterhouse (Arcade) - Ending (Favorite VGMC Tune) - There are way too many to chose but I'll try just one, or a few. A song/soundtrack I heard for the first time and really liked was the Gravity Rush soundtrack shared by 0xDEAFC0DE and also Sumez. I would also say Act Raiser - Birth of the People that AverageOliver98 shared. That song is beautiful.
  20. Absolute legend, thank you Mr. Uemura for all the joy you helped create through your work. I saw this video last year with Mr. Uemura himself talking about the NES/Famicom. It still has surprisingly low views but is a real gem:
  21. Mega Man 2 - Pure gameplay and music goodness. The final area where it becomes quiet except for the ambient drips from the ceiling, really takes the game to even higher levels in its design. You can tell they enjoyed making it. Castlevania III - Epic platformer, incredible atmosphere and music. Summer Carnival '92: Recca (FC) - I can jump into this game anytime and have a blast. Yet, the challenge and strategy is there I can also stick with it and get immersed. Gradius - In my humble opinion it's the best version. The gameplay is so good and strategic. Took me years to beat but finally did and felt great. Another one I can pick up and enjoy easily. Super Bat Puncher (Homebrew) - This blew me away when it was first released. Still is top-tier 10+ years later. Sqoon - I haven't played another shooter like it, great depth of mechanics, and super charming. Ninja Gaiden III (North America) - Epic platformer, took me awhile to beat but was worth it. It's challenging, but not unfair, and the levels/story/music elevate it. Super Mario Bros. - Hard to not enjoy this one. Actually didn't beat it warpless until many years later. The many secrets and simplicity, yet depth in gameplay. Classic. Note, I'd still like to try SMB2 (Japan), which could rank higher. Crisis Force (FC) - Stellar shmup with cool FX and level design. The ending credits music is one of my favorites. Kabuki Quantum Fighter - Headbanging enemies with your long blood-red hair, intense platform perils n aerobatics a plenty. Jammin' soundtrack. A game that probably deserves a sequel (was hinted at but we never got it). This was tough, I could maybe change the order, they're all so close.
  22. Horror Movie Review: Ghost in the Machine (1993) I found this film in the depths of HBOMax, to my pleasant surprise it was actually pretty entertaining. Some of the acting is a bit laughable, but the 90s vibe is strong and is quite amusing/enjoyable now. I actually went into it thinking it was PG13 for some reason, but it's R, and I think that helped it age a bit better. It actually has some pretty creative horror/kill scenes and the movie doesn't waste much time at only about 90 mins. Don't want to give away too much, but might be worth a watch especially if early 90s techno future/computer stuff interests you. It's pretty fun. Favorite Seasonal Drink: A nice warm Spiced Apple Cider (homemade, whole cinnamon stick, orange zest, nutmeg, clove) Spooky Drawing/Art "The Blue Ghost | Sharedata Chiller " by nesmaster14 (it's about a mysterious NES release), spo00oky!
