Paid going rate for this, but I was really happy to add it back into my small CIB collection of nostalgia-heavy titles. oh.... edited to also say... Baseball Stars (NES) cart... loved that game as a kid and was happy to find a nice copy in the wild for $8.

A “Personal Articles” plan is likely what this would fall under. My understanding is you basically can insure anything you want that you own. The catch is you have to inventory all items with serial numbers and barcode as well as a set value/replacement cost. I use State Farm and I believe they will lump things together (ie, Recorded Media for vinyl collection). The problem with all of this is you will almost always have a deductible (I think mine is $2000 to keep the monthly premium down). I consider all of this to be “catastrophic” coverage… in the event of major theft or fire/water damage. If the concern is your buddy’s friend taking a higher end game, it’s gotta be a really valuable item to justify filing a claim and making the deductible. Talk to an insurance agent directly or over the phone and get the “fine print”. I would caution anyone from doing research through google or giving away too much info… unless you want crap loads of insurance spam coming your way.

Always cardboard… I’ve sold my rarer boxes for the “high” value at the time only to realize years later they shot up to 5-10x the price.

I just recently noticed SNES being much more affordable at a local shop in NYC. I think virtual “mini” consoles are finally starting to make an ripple. I also literally heard a guy in the store say to his girlfriend “I’d buy that but I don’t have my original SNES anymore”. I think there also a transition happening with younger people these days. There will always be new crops of retro collectors but I’m noticing fewer people actually know or desire 80s/90s systems like NES/SNES/Genesis/N64. They just didn’t grow up with it. They are GameCube, PS2, Wii types.

TMNT II I always played this as a kid and thought it was the coolest damn thing!

Who wouldn’t want the nicer label when given the option? In my opinion it’s the buyer’s decision what they do with their purchase. I love gaming as much as the next, but it’s all about what makes one happy. The games have wonderful artwork and I can understand someone wanting to collect just that. Maybe for some perspective… 15yrs ago before ever-drives and emulation I could understand Ian’s annoyance, but nobody is buying DK jr math to play it… come on, they want to display it on their shelf… no matter how much of a true “gamer” they are.

Also came here to say Sonic 2… also NHL 94. others… Batman Forever (SNES), Tetris (NES), Halo 1+2 (XBOX), Super Mario Land 2 (GB), Kwirk (GB), Dr. Mario (GB/NES), Doom II (pc), Quake II (N64), Sudoko, Solitaire, Mahjong

Obviously they are running out of content if it’s come down to these type of talking points.

For me it’s definitely a mint copy of Sqoon on NES. I just could never bring myself to spend $1000 on the cardboard box. I finally settled for a mint cart and manual with a BitBox case. I’m actually pretty happy since I can pop the thing open very easily without worrying about damaging a NES box.

With shipping prices these days I’d say flatten them.

Bubsy cart (SNES) for $15… it was in impeccable condition. Very nostalgic game for me, couldn’t resist. Also found Contra NES for $30 in great shape. Both brick and mortar.

Depends on the game. Generally for me, condition trumps all. I don’t think that a GH re-release is comparable to a first print regardless of condition as they have different artwork.

I thought about sending something to John Romero to sign… then I just thought, why? signatures are a weird thing. They can be very cool in one sense, but also very stupid. It’s almost like proving “I’m holding a item that they also held”. I have a couple music related items that are signed, some by deceased musicians and those do give me great joy to have now.

Well if you must know… Bball stars is still a silly fun 2 player, Sqoon is cute but challenging and Kirby will always hold up, it’s Kirby!

Now that you mention that, I think eBay thought they were bootlegs or reproductions for some reason… or somehow his listing got reported. I might totally be wrong, but I remember there was some kind of snag on the RE eBay sales. The LE might have been sold on NA… sad it’s only been a few years, but I can’t remember.

I bought an original RE copy on NA when this was released. I remember thinking at the time that this was gonna be a good one, and like others have mentioned it was very reasonably priced so I knew it would sell fast. I was persistent and even sent 87Arts direct messages asking when he was going to put them on eBay and if he needed any help. If memory serves me correct I think he did end up selling them on eBay and “announced” the release with a link on NA to his eBay listing. Initially, I was bummed that I missed out on an LE copy and only got a RE version. As the game has become more desirable I’m actually more appreciative of my RE copy and I feel it represents an original, unaltered version of the game. I know that might sound like sour grapes on my end, but really it’s just bittersweet. I still envy those with a custom message or a LE# embedded inside. I just feel like the game is already “limited” by nature so I’m happy to have a clean copy.

Technically not a restoration, but after having some issues with my OG GameBoy screen, I am very happy with this LED modification to breathe new life into probably my favorite system of all time.
