  1. I’m more of a Simpsons/VGA fan... but damn, that looks slick! GLWS!
  2. portabello

    SOLD

    Bump. Prices lowered.
  3. Star Wars on Game Boy, player’s choice 1996. I grew up in a non-video game household, so gameboy was the first “console” I could acquire. Technically the first video game I owned was Wolfenstein 3D Spear of Destiny for PC.

  5. That reminds me... has anyone figured out the cheat code? When I originally purchased mine I sent the creator a PM thanking him and he mentioned there was a code hidden in the manual to give you extra lives. I see some odd notes throughout the pages that indicate a possible code, but I’ve never been able to figure it out. Where the StarKeeper players at?
  6. I also got a regular edition at the time of release. While I’ve recently considered selling mine, I just can’t let go of it, especially considering there is no rom in existence to play it. It’s pretty addicting for any NES game, especially a homebrew. Maybe someday the creator will release a digital version for all to enjoy... seems highly unlikely.
  7. Lots of good shout outs, but one of my favorites that’s missing... Mario Golf!
  8. Yeah, Mega Man on GameBoy used a similar grid system. I have notes somewhere from the 90s, I'll post when I find them.
  9. I know I have some old paperwork from PC games like Myst that are pretty funny. I also have some original GB codes from the 90s I could dig up. Below was a silly thing I did while playing Ufouria a few years back. I wanted to document the passwords during my progress. Bottom right is the final boss if anyone is interested in giving that a whirl.
  10. Ok, new site so let’s go back to the basics. Also, just have fun with this, it’s impossible to include everything in 15 titles. Anything on the system counts (home brews included). First (1-5): List your top 5 favorite (nostalgic) games on the NES. Doesn’t matter if they sucked. You played em. You love em. List those 5 first. Second (6-10): List what you deem to be the greatest 5 titles of the whole catalog. If it’s considered 8-bit and plays on the system, it counts. Third (11-15): List 5 games you never knew about (or never played early on) and now absolutely love. 1. Bigfoot 2. Sqoon 3. TMNT 2 4. Anticipation 5. Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt (a small cheat, but hey, they were on the same cart) 6. Legend of Zelda 7. Contra 8. Super Mario Brothers 3 9. Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers 10. Baseball Stars 11. Metroid 12. Kirby’s Dream Land 13. Ufouria 14. Tetris 15. Lan Master Go!
  11. After downsizing to a small NYC apartment, my focus is curating my own perfect tiny collection consisting of a mix of nostalgia, new title discoveries, NES home brews, and Everdrives. Right now I’m at roughly 30 titles and I just have a few more I’d like to pick up someday before I’m fairly content.
  12. Typically more for playing. In the past I have bought some titles purely for nostalgia (despite them being awful games)... I’m looking at you Toys for the SNES. I first and foremost will spend money on an item that’s nostalgic and care less about the price. If the item isn’t particularly one I’m fond of or grew up with, I’ll wait until I can snag a deal, despite it’s “rarity”.
  13. what drives me when buying... (in order of importance) 1. Nostalgia 2. Condition 3. Price
  14. For nostalgia sake it's definitely my original 96' silver GameBoy pocket and travel pouch with some original carts. Runner up is a CIB copy of Wolfenstein 3D Spear of Destiny for PC. In terms of value/grail-esque, probably Star Keeper or my VGA 85+ gold Tetris.
  15. I’m currently going through the Hitchcock catalog. Just watched Vertigo and North By Northwest... both were fantastic. up next is Rear Window and then Strangers on a Train.
  16. I used to do a raffle of sorts on NA that wasn't actually a real raffle because it was free to play and just like with an Auction, only the winner was asked to pay for the item. I called it the Low-baller Raffle Auction and the intention was that you could get a decent item for a low price simply based on luck. However, if you were willing to pay more for the item, then you would post in the thread requesting for more entries. ie, 1 entry = $5, so your "bid" was how many entries were you wiling to pay for if your name ultimately got picked. I used a public online randomizer so anyone could see the results of the drawing afterwards. I stopped doing it because I don't have as many cool items to give away for low prices these days. But still a fun idea for VGS to consider, where the winning item $$$ goes back into the site.
  17. also... this cool music video that was clearly retro-game inspired.
  18. Ronald Jenkees is one of my favorite self-made/YouTube musicians and I always felt he deserves more recognition. While some may already be familiar with his work, I feel you all would appreciate his style as it's mostly instrumental electronic and could easily be paired with a video game. If you like his stuff, support him by picking up an album download or subscribing to his YouTube channel. I've linked my favorite tracks below as an introduction, so give some a spin and let everyone know what you think. https://ronaldjenkees.bandcamp.com/
  19. Illusions of Gaia, Soul Blazer, Terranigma Final Fight 1-3
  20. They are like the Pitchfork.com of graded video games. I can see where they have an enthusiastic perspective that’s deeply rooted in the hobby, but personally I can’t get on board with their “point” system. Seems too big of a grading scale. What’s the difference between and 9.3 and 9.4? Seems subjective and way too specific. I respect the effort to make competition and give the whole market a variety of opinion, but based on what I’ve been seeing, it’s not for me. I also completely hate the look of the acrylics... too many curves and weirdness that takes always from the artwork and entire piece.
  21. Doom 64... when you say "so dark"... do you mean in concept or literally the game looks dark? I only ask because the first time I ever played it, I got through about 2 levels and was frustrated beyond belief that it was soo dim. Only then did I realize the default brightness setting is oddly low... raise that shit up and enjoy some Doom64!
  22. I thought I was good at Tetris... then I watched YouTube videos.... uggghhhhh
