  1. BTW, I mentioned Magic the Gathering as stores that host those type of tourneys tend to be the ones that carry the more interesting games. From my experience only a fraction of newer games are purely card based like MTG.
  2. There are all sorts of neat ones out there with varying degrees of setup, some with cards, some with more traditional tokens. You never know unless you look into it. If you're looking for ones like the 80s-90s that were half toys, Chateau Roquefort and Niagara might be up your alley.
  3. You need to find a dedicated board game store, or a good comic book store that sells games. Find one that does Magic The Gathering tournaments in the back room and you're in the right place. It'll open you up to a whole new world of entertainment.
  4. Yeah, they are the 800lb gorilla of online money transfers. Not sure if there is a viable alternative that enough people use. Sorry to hear about this.
  5. Never been any evidence of a recall that has turned up. Same thing with Stadium Events. More likely that the early Bandai Family Fun Fitness items were not shipped in large quantities. It's been speculated that Bandai was feeling out the US market and when Americans didn't go for it, they stopped shipping. Later, Nintendo tried to make a go with the Power Pad and better marketing, which shipped more units, but it still wasn't a huge seller.
  6. Our view is a little skewed, especially in the third console generation, since the NES was so dominant over here. The Saturn also didn't do well over here thanks to a botched launch announcement and the PlayStation undercutting it on price and third party support.
  7. Original question: Any difference between the Famicom and NES everdrive? Other than pin number and form factor? I'm thinking about picking one up.
  8. TV is a Samsung DLP rear projection. It seems to have very little lag. NES/Famicom are played on an AVS with original NES controllers. Other consoles, mainly Game Boy and TG-16, played on a Raspberry Pi Zero W with a knockoff PlayStation USB controller. I don't have it all hooked up right now, but it can be in under a minute. I also have a couple of plug n play devices. I like the ones that have unique controls that can't be replicated by standard controllers, such as the Atari paddle games or the Bass Angler reel controller. The card/casino one just came with the fishing one.
  9. Happy Thanksgiving! And apparently Peppermint Patty is trending on Twitter.
  10. It was tied to NintendoAge, may it rest in peace. I think Gloves might have looked into a scoreboard here, but I think it would entail rewriting the AVS firmware as well.
  11. For me, I don't particularly care for any of the early 3D games or consoles. PlayStation and Saturn have some 2D games I like, but the N64's library (and the 3D libraries of the other two) are not something that I have a burning desire to play anymore.
  12. Tandi in the first Fallout game is super annoying. Especially after you rescue her and she's in your party trying to knife shit. Ian can also be a pain if you give him a burst weapon. He's more likely to shoot you than the enormous deathclaw standing several yards away.
  13. NTSC = National Television System Committee. It's a broadcasting standard that used to be used in a number of countries. The US did use it, but so did a lot of others, including Japan. Nowadays we use ATSC, when the broadcasts went digital. But for NES era video games, NTSC was used to match the TVs in the respective nations. Most of Europe used the PAL standard. Well, there was also SECAM, which was a joint French/Soviet Union standard, but I believe PAL was close enough that PAL video games would work.
  14. How could you post those videos and not post the king of pissed off cats, Burger and Fries?
  15. I've bought from them at least twice and both times got the game that looked like the one in the picture.
  16. I demand to know what this thread was about.
  17. Looking at the packaging for Yumi Kojo, I wonder if Nintendo was ever listed as the official publisher. The game cover has the Fuji TV logo. Same with All Night Nippon Bros, another Fuji TV/Nintendo partnership.
  18. My aunt had Castlevania II, and other friends had the original. I don't think I got past the second level of Castlevania I as a kid, as I didn't have much time to play. I was the only one in our circle that had Ninja Gaiden, though.
  19. To that game directly? No. The playable characters are probably owned by Fuji TV, as they were part of their Yumi Kojo '87 promotion festival. So Nintendo's ability to make a sequel were/are tied up with that. Stuff like Shy-Guys and Birdo were most likely Nintendo creations, or were at least negotiated to be Nintendo properties, so those did appear in later games.
  20. Over Horizon is a really good shooter. The PAL version is fairly pricey, but the Famicom one is almost twice as much. I really wish that we got that one over here.
  21. Atari - 7800 (it plays 2600 cartridges and has a few good games on its own) Nintendo - Sharp Twin Famicom with an NES adapter and a fresh FDS belt (or maybe a modded Wii) Sega - Saturn with the action replay Sony - PS3 model with the most backwards compatibility NEC/Hudson - PC-Engine Duo R If you choose right, you can play outside of the original library
