Sorry. Gloves won the one loop Donkey Kong Jr. contest and bert is also a beast at arcade games. But you did come in second at DK Jr. so you may have a shot. It could also be tables.
I had an Atari 7800 as a kid before I got a NES. We went from 2600 to 7800 due to the backwards compatibility.
I had a big pile of 2600 games but only a few that were 7800; just Ms. Pac-Man, Food Fight, Dig Dug and Pole Position II. They were fun but didn't exactly show off the system's power so it doesn't seem like much of an improvement over the 2600. My friend had a NES and games like Mike Tyson's Punch Out that blew me away at the time. What I wanted was a NES which I finally got for Christmas in 1989.
Yeah, both the 7800 and SMS were capable systems but didn't have much of a chance considering Nintendo's stranglehold on the industry at the time. Atari didn't help matters with the uncomfortable controller and no Pokey on the console.
I used to rent RollerGames as a kid and never got far. And then I played it again for the 2016 weekly contests and reached stage 4.
So this year I wanted to beat this damn game after watching someone practice speed running it on Twitch. It took many continues to beat the first time. But then I kept playing until i could beat it without a game over, and then I was able to beat it without dying using Hot Flash. Put in the time and you'll get good, because it's just memorization. The infinite continues help.
It's now one of my favorite Konami beat em ups. But I also love Bayou Billy so I have weird tastes.
I see Xexyz, Battle Chess, Monopoly, Legendary Wings, 3D World Runner, Ikari Warriors, Legend of Kage, Platoon, Excitebike, Dick Tracy, Micky Mousecapade, Hogan's Alley, Al Unser Jr.'s Turbo Racing, Double Dragon II.... That's a good haul.
In a lot of older games with vertically scrolling levels, you'll just die when you fall off the screen rather than scrolling back down. For example, the vertical stages in Battletoads. This makes the levels more challenging but it may also be less hassle for the programmers.
I don't know what triggers it. It may be more likely to occur when you're struggling at that part and keep falling back down.
It's an amusing glitch and normally not a big deal. It was annoying when it happened in the one life contest in the tournament last year because of having to start over.
Here is a phantom 1up glitch that I found in Ninja Gaiden III.
And here's a weird one from act 5 where the platforms disappear and the background becomes the foreground.
I gave them a 3. I don't mind "I Gotta Feeling" but "My Humps" is the crappiest pop song ever made with the worst lyrics of anything ever. Maybe they deserve a higher rating for their earlier stuff but I'm no hurry to check it out.
